it would literally take them about 1 minute to copy this HTML code form from our blog to their site.  in the meantime you can donate here.  we have already paid them $1100 worth of bitcoins.

I doubt it'll be a coding issue they seem to have a capable team - and especially as you made integration so simple. It'll be an internal policy from one of the seniors there for sure.

Here's the anti-climatic response I received:

Thanks for your email and for your interest in supporting free knowledge. Unfortunately we do not accept bitcoins. For a full list of other donation options, please visit http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Ways_to_Give/en. Thank you again for your interest!

Hey seal, look at our respective responses. One day apart and it looks like they have softened their stance. Or is it my wishful thinking?

Looks like you got it more polite than me RodeoX. This is going to take some persistence, it'll be a good idea if people keep emailing them about it. At least that way bitcoin awareness will remain high amongst the 'Donor Services Managers'. We'll slowly change their views  Wink

My email################################

Rodeox, Nov 29 06:49 (PST): As a fan of wikipedia's knobble contribution to the Internet and
humanity, I would like to thank you and offer some support. I know that
the need to raise money is a constant struggle and that every bit helps.
However I have not found a way to safely and privately donate to
Wikipedia, I would urge you to consider accepting donations denominated
in Bitcoin.
Bitcoin offers you the opportunity to receive help without sharing part
of the donation with PayPal or credit card companies. Many of us will
simply never use such options for donation. Your money is ready to be
transmitted and would be in your wallet in seconds, if only you had a
bitcoin wallet.

Do they know that these money are coming from you?
Can they see the "bitcoin" word somewhere when they receive them?

if their answer is no - why do you folks feel the urge to keep badgering them about it?

do you behave this way when anyone else tells you no?

Wondering when wikipedia will start answering these e-mails with a link to this... Smiley

I would be happy if they did, because then they would also probably put a bitpay link on the site lol

I'm sending the following-

Hello,

I love wikipedia.  It's an incredible resource, both for useful needed information and for simple browsing and reading for fun.  Many times I have consulted wikipedia for something and seen the notice at the top, pleading for donations.  Unfortunately, it seems you won't accept my donations in the form of bitcoins.

Part of the reason I love wikipedia is that it is open an free, not free in the monetary aspect but free in that it is free from mega-corporation control.  Being forced to support a for-profit corporation such as paypal, Mastercard, or Amazon in order to donate to wikipedia is unacceptable to me.  I want to donate to you, but I refuse to give any part of that donation over to a corporate entity simply because they control the payment methods.

I understand some organizations are afraid to try this new currency, for whatever reasons.  However, I urge wikimedia.org to look into the details, as there really is nothing to fear.  WordPress recently began accepting bitcoins, as time goes on the currency will become more mainstream, however I'd really like to donate right now and I simply can't until you choose to support the currency.

Bitcoins are free and open.  I would happily donate 5 bitcoins right now, today, (current value ~$60 USD) if wikimedia.org would simply accept them.

Thank you,

[my name]

Strength in numbers
I don't think they really need donations, otherwise they would accept bitcoin  Wink

Came to say it. Clearly not a pressing need.
