Nothing lasts forever. Not even our solar system.

But of all digital currencies, Bitcoin is most likely to last longest.

Don't be distracted by altcoins, forkcoins, pre-mined shitcoins, centralized company coins, or any of that other "crypto" crap.

Only Bitcoin has the advantage of being first mover. Together with full decentralization, a strong worldwide peer-to-peer network and a finite supply limit, there is almost no chance for any pretender coin to usurp its position of dominance.

The infrastructure developed around Bitcoin gives it a massive advantage over anything else. Unless some kind of omnipotent world government dictatorship strangles individual rights around the world, Bitcoin will be insurmountable.

Don't worry about it. Bitcoin ain't going nowhere.

Everything is possible in crypto yes we might see any other altcoin replacing Bitcoin as number one crypto but that will require enormous amount of time as no other coin has potential to do that as of now. I would say it's possible but not at this moment as crypto market is currently depended on Bitcoin's momentum as its the driving factor behind the market from last decade.
this proves that altcoin is always under bitcoin. the proof is the current altcoin price depends on the price of bitcoin. however, we all expect the price of bitcoin to rise so that the price of altcoin also rises. if altcoin replaces bitcoin, I think it might change the crypto ecosystem.
I have never thought of it that someday it's possible that bitcoin will be replaced by an altcoin. Just think of it, what kind of altcoin does the quality that can replace bitcoin in all of its nature?

Others are thinking of how short term bitcoin is because of the phasing of technology. Despite of those opinions, I'm still firm and believing that bitcoin will stay here more than what others are expecting. 15 years? 20 years? more than that I guess.

We see that's some of the cryptocurrencies ranking level are decreased such as dogecoin before it was ranked #4 but currently I think it doesn't listed even in top #10 ranking... So can bitcoin also decrease its rank in the future or it will remain #1 rank forever?.
Nothing will remain forever mate even Life has an expiration so what more for cryptocurrency?yeah this will stay longer in rank 1 (since it is for more than 10 years now) but in future?for sure there will be New currency that will be more functional to others and will gather more popularity and support from the community.

i am not saying that Bitcoin will be Gone but will only decrease its popularity and may down to below rank 10?who knows right?

BTC will likely continue, the biggest threat is replacement by a better product.   At present we have failing FIAT, that provides a great underlying demand for a better alternative to that product which is compromised by politics.   The reason that matters is uneven capital value circulating in an economy restricts and damages productivity that might have occurred, we have compromised value exchange.
Like a leaky bucket used to bring water back from a well, the need to find a better hold for value is likely to continue hence BTC is viable.     BTC is going to continue as long as there continues a need for it and I think it expands not contracts in this year, next and there after.

Theres no such thing about lasting forever but we can actually tell that bitcoin would still have the long run to remain the top spot. Why?
We know on how big the bitcoin community is and also this had been the first crypto ever created and been supported by the masses thats why
its really hard to believe that it can be replaced by any alts in the market no matter how new it is when it comes to specs.

Lasting forever wont be the issue here but if this one would be worldwide be adopted then that possibility or chance is still there.

we are only talking about ranks and not the death or how long the coin will live   . still i agree on what you said , btc is too mighty too get knocked down on the top spot but other coins are always possible to get de throned   .

for example doge coin because doge coin is pretty weak so its normal for its ranked to fluctuate because there are also coins that are becoming good overtime   . let say if btc ever de throned on the future  , i think many are still going to support it becuase other unranked coins still have supportes too   .

I don't think it's possible. Because if Bitcoin dumps then all altcoin dumps. Now you have to calculate how altcoin will overtake Bitcoin. I see a lot of people who compare eth to bitcoin. This is really ridiculous. When eth is dependent on Bitcoin then eth how to overtake Bitcoin. I don't think any other altcoin can go to the top 1. Bitcoin is king.

It lasts as long as there is internet to support it.
If the future world government decides to close the internet for a week, then bitcoin go to zero.
So "forever" is a bit relative here.

I don't think this can be a reason that bitcoin can go down to zero. Example if internet was shut down for a week which is likely not to happen, anytime it comes back, bitcoin transaction would continue. This is not really the case because if internet goes off, bitcoin will not be the only coin that will be affected.

Closing internet for few hours could crash markets and if it goes for few days, many big companies will require finance support from governments to keep working. This is just an exemple, i can't imagine the rest so bitcoin at worst could crash but once the system is online everything will return to normal.
Bitcoin is meant to be used and to last unless we will be in an imaginary communist cashless society

It is impossible that internet will be close for some events because, it is a necessity nowadays: people are now all over it, from the daily tasks they make to the things they think about. As long as the internet is forever, and so is Bitcoin. But, at the least possibility is when the supply of Bitcoin depletes to zero, it would be the end for the coin because, it is only limited in blocks.

I think that maybe eventually another coin with similar aspects will take over, unless bitcoin really steps up its game or side chains get good enough to keep it running despite massive adoption. Because that's really Bitcoin's biggest disadvantage, it can't process the amount of payments a world currency should be able to, and unless this is solved it's possible it gets replaced.

That's a classic shitcoiner viewpoint that's totally the wrong way around.

What matters, especially when you're dealing with code conjured out of thin air to begin with, is track record and trust. No one gives a shit about your one second block time if it's run by one server and maintained by one person and fifty people know about it.

That can be replicated a trillion times over. It's worthless before it got going.

What Bitcoin means cannot be replicated. It takes years and the efforts of millions of people. No way will enough people gather around another project of their own free will in the same way again. It's a once in a lifetime happening.

The incentive is there to make the dominant chain work, not invent a new one. Layer two stuff may deal with the capacity aspect. If not then something else may well come up.

I've seen Nano fans genuinely incapable of understanding why they haven't taken over the world yet. It's rather obvious if you think it through.

There's was a moment when Ethereum was close to flipping Bitcoin and (likely only temporarily) overtaking it as #1 coin. But today Bitcoin is undisputed champion and it's hard to imagine how this can shift. I personally believe there will never be another alt season, so no more opportunities for the flippening like the one I described earlier. It's safe to say that in the observable future Bitcoin will keep being number one, and as for very long run - no one can really predict that, so we shouldn't worry about that now.

there has never been such a moment. ethereum is as it has always been a shitcoin. it got pumped a lot like many other shitcoins and the pumpers started a social media campaign to fool newbies into thinking "flippening" is a thing Grin

Of course I was only speaking about the marketcap, and you're correct - "the flippening" was merely a bubble, which only highlights my point - Bitcoin is miles ahead of shitcoins, despite what places like /r/cryptocurrency want people to believe. I think newcomers just want to believe that there's some sort of hidden gem that will go to the moon and replace Bitcoin, just because they want to get rich quick. They don't care about the tech at all.

Nothing last forever. You are focusing on the cryptocurencies, but you can look further. Nothing stays rank.1 forever. If you look last 5000 years timeline China was strongest country for most of the rime. And where was China last 500 years? Spain, Netherlands, UK and USA were Nr.1.

Technically "forever" is a very long period of time, I do not think we will have bitcoin "forever", it will be around in 10 years probably 20, maybe even 50 years.

But, think about how fast the technology and the world improves in the past 10-20 years, that means we can't really comprehend what it can do in 50-100 years, most of us will not be alive in 50 years, all of us will be dead in 100 years, even the youngest people here must be at least 15-20 years old, even if you are 5 years old (which I doubt any 5 year old would be on bitcointalk) that is 105 years old, and probably dead. So, that means we will not see bitcoin being fully gone if you ask me. But, in 100 years we will definitely have people living on mars, at least it looks like that from here right now.

if bitcoin was useless like dogecoin or all other altcoins that keep getting dumped and go down in the lists then yeah it would have disappeared already. but the problem is that you are comparing shitcoins' behavior with bitcoin and expect bitcoin to act like them which doesn't make any sense.
