So, many of us westerners/Christmas celebrators will be starting to save money for Christmas presents pretty soon.

Does anyone think this will affect BTC price? i.e. People who would normally be investing part of their monthly pay cheque in BTC not doing so.

What do you guys think?

I think price will skyrocket at 20th December when people will buy Bitcoins to put them on wallets and gift those valets to other people.
And i think price will fall deep on 26th December when people will open their christmas gifted wallets and start spending those bitcoins.

I believe it would cause BTC price to drop as people are selling BTC to buy present.

I gave out paper wallets for Christmas last year. Thank goodness I loaded them in early October, because everyone is still slightly above water.

My inner bull says that you need to get out and get your Christmas shopping done before the end of this week.  Wink

Also, sell on Boxing Day before everyone's family earns how easy it is to spend their gifts now through Bitpay.

Maybe... I bought my first piece of BTC on Christmas Day last year...

Ouch.  I hope you sold on the bounce...

I haven't sold a single satoshi. Been buying steadily every paycheck for almost a whole year now

been a rough year then for you!  Undecided

Meh, not really. I don't need the money I put into it. If I invested my savings then yea it would have been rough, but I'm just throwing an extra $100-$200 a month at it.

Holidays means usually less volume, and people cashing out to spend it during the holidays. So unless abnormal developments, we'll probably see what we know as dip.

In the end of year holidays people also receive work bonus, this is why they buy more and sometimes invest more.

Question is if they will going to BTC or not

Also the rise does not needs to happen on the Christmas day...

It depends on if we are near a bubble or not. I use to give BTC for gifts, but I won't if it's trending up. I'd rather maximize my gains and just use fiat to buy normal gifts.

It is possible, as you said.

But not certain, because several news that were supposed to get BTC to the moon failed to move the price upwards.

Maybe... I bought my first piece of BTC on Christmas Day last year. I was bored on my computer and was like why not, the only thing open on Christmas Day is BTC exchanges Grin
Perhaps others will do the same this year.

Smiley Yes, but Bitcoiners only. Most other people will buy the usual crap nobody really wants...

Because of Christmas people will have less time to trade on exchanges. So I predict that volume could be reduced. However I don't think Christmas will have a significant systematic effect on exchange ratio in either direction, because those Bitcoiners that buy regularly are deeply in love with their currency and are more likely to buy cheaper gifts than stopping their investment activity... Hard to tell
People may sell more and convert to fiat for christmas causing a deal
Which could then cause other people to buy bitcoins for a steal
It's a gift that keeps on giving  Grin

Me too. My closest BTC ATM allows Bitcoin purchases as small as $5 including a freshly printed paper wallet, the perfect stocking stuffer or accompaniment to a Xmas card. I wish I'd had this option 2 Xmases ago.

I remember reading a post here last year from someone who gave his kids each a paper wallet containing coins at a cost of $12 and was glad they hadn't figured out how to spend them before they hit 4 digits.

There are probably a good number of us that did something similar.  I gave out a bunch of 1BTC Casacius coins for Xmas in 2012.  $13 each.  Smiley

It will go down, just because those who normaly holds will need more money than usual days, so they cash out.
