Whatever happens it is on their radar and already big enough to warrant debate.  I cannot see them just allowing bitcoin to grow and grow without somehow getting their piece of the pie, there will be some kind of tax put upon the fiat side of it at least so when you transfer to cash they will get their part.

I just hope they wont change the directives to taxaction of BTCitcon.
Why every thing have to be regulated EU?
Theres no harm in having something unregulated.
Bureaucracy along with etatism will destroy this union.

Honestly, who cares. They will never be able to control fully. Bitcoin will be valuable as long as people are interested in it.

Some speculated as they are just monitoring, I feel this to be the initiation of the bitcoin regulations. Now there might be only a small people into the bitcoin forum. So when there is a large number of users they will get into it and try making some profit out of it through transaction taxes.

I am happy with the current situation, as I understand it, in Germany.
If bitcoin are bought and held for longer that one year, then there is no capital gains tax due.

For me that means that half of the bitcoins I have I could sell now at a profit, and not have to worry about the taxes, the other half I have to hold a little longer, or pay tax on the gains.  1 year is a long time, but I don't anticipate selling out completely unless the price skyrockets stupidly, in which case I could also live with paying tax on the huge profits!

As long as the EU rules don't change to make all profits taxable, I will be happy.

I think the UK government will not regulate the bitcoin for the time being. It does not want to interfere with it.

EU has open debate about BTC.
What do you expect as a result?

First of all I will tell my hope which is that EU be the first entity and community to fully know bitcoin a currency and give to it the full rights which have only currency within every country of EU. If not obligatorily as a strong recommendation for the moment and as a condition for the future. Giving even a deadline and giving space to be regulated according to the various (economic or other fields with importance in this matter), specifics of each country. This is my hope.
As for that I expect, according to me, it were be at maximum some recommendations about the good and maybe the need that bitcoin be regulated in order to be under control and the remembering of the fact that Eu must not remain behind the most important or even not so important countries, which have regulated in some way, its status. Anyhow must be told that the fact that they will discuss about this matter it is a very important and a step ahead in the behavior of EU versus bitcoin. Hope to have wrong in my foreseen about what will bring this interest.

From one standpoint it is good thing they regulate and all those btc exchanges must enter legal business and they must take responsibility if they have problems in security or if their funds accidently vanishes..Someone also must take control over mass scams in alts..

Whatever happened in EU, bitcoin is here and they must accept that.
I think they will manage to control it in order to stop money laundering.

Since the question is presented to the UNION as a whole. There would lot of debates and arguments before the issues is settled. Surprisingly, the results coming out of it could be would affect the bitcoin users in either positive or negative ways, you see.If the talk is about centralizing the virtual currencies then of course it would not be a good thing for us but if they plan to  make it more secure by giving the exchanges restrictions on antonymous trades,it would be secure but not feasible.

The EU not only debate about Bitcoin but for virtual currencies in common. I think and hope that they will find a liberal regulation. This would bring more attention to crypto currencies and Bitcoin. Further, it would be easier for merchants which are interested in Bitcoin - but fear about legal issues - to integrate crypto currencies as a payment option.

The EU likes the regulate and ban things.
So yes, I expect some changes and it will be harder to sell and buy Bitcoin officially in the EU.
Question is how they catch deals outside of the EU, for example if you deal BTC at Bter.com for example. Will be very difficult for them to track and avoid this.

Whatever we want for bitcoin, he must be regulated and monitored somehow by authorities and everything is good till there is cooperation. The Last thing we are expecting and hoping not to happen is banning of BTC by authorities wherever they are in the world. Wink

they said that they are only monitoring the situation, they ar enot regulating it yet

yes, but how much longer will they continue "ignoring" it? we can be 100% sure that when the times comes, they will try to... what will happen?, in the end, people who already used it have lot of power, so its depends about what will do people who are using it Wink ( at least i like to think so xD )

i remember that they said that bitcoin is too small for a regulation at the moment, i think they are waiting for major adoption, before moving their ass on this

yes, you are right, but you know... i don't believe nothing that come from them Tongue i'm pretty sure that they are moving their ass right now in silence.

In any case we will discover what's going on with them in next ye
