May be yes, these two strong projects are very advanced these days when compared to each other. I hope this battle will continue till the end of the year XRP is not far away to over take the 2nd place but the competition will be very Interesting for sure.

Ethereum just regained its second spot after Ripple wrestled the second spot but the gap is to close, do you think we will have a battle royale for the two coins for the whole 2019 and who will remain the victor, or a new one will emerge to surpass this two coins?
For me it's completely irreverent which coin is on 2nd and which on 3rd place.
Ethereum is a great projects with thousands of ICO project behind and Ripple is not even a real crypto currency.
If you are looking to support one of those, ETH is the only choice.

I don't think so, because the second position will always be occupied by ethereum because ethereum will move quickly and leave the XRP far behind, I think the real battle will be at a lower rank between XRP and BCH.
there will be intense competition between the two because later when the bitcoin pump then BCH will follow it and the XRP is threatened to go down to a lower rank

if ethereum manages to reach a price of $ 200, the ripple will lag behind. so it seems this is not a battle. in 2019 it was not a fight to take second place, but a battle for all altcoins to enter the top ten.

I do, but consider about ethereum will have reduced on its block reward and that will give a huge impact to the price of each ethereum. so far if you are seeing when so many people are betting on it. I see that most people go for ethereum to stick with sdecond place.Do you guys see any place for ethereum being number one in 2019? In the bearish/ neutral market it seems that cryto on which is also a platform for other projects might behave better next year.

There are several reasons for Ethereum to sustain its position but Ripple too is working hard to be established as a inter bank token with a global reach. So, we'd need to wait to see how things turns. If we are going to have a bull this year, Ethereum would surely keep the lead.

Ethereum is the best coin after bitcoin,ripple is just a new bud.I don't think lot of people will regain trust of ripple after losing huge amount of market cap value when compared with bitcoin and ethereum.Maybe a new coin can replace ripple but ethereum will its place for longer period. there really is not battle going on! there are two altcoins like the rest of 2500+ altcoins that are getting pumped and dumped every now and then. when they get pumped they go up, and when the dump comes they come down.
now since the market is not in sync, sometime one gets a little more pump and replaces the other and sometimes the other way around.
traders don't care at all what the "rank" is, all they care about is the pump and the size of it so that they can make the most amount of money out of it.

I think that Ripple has no chance this year to become stronger than Ethereum. Ethereum has very big plans for 2019 from a financial point of view. You can invest in it at interest and get a fork. Also the team is scheduled for this year a lot of updates.

I've said hundred of times, if you bought XRP and are looking at the price constantly, instead of actual working plan progress, you invested blindly.
Research.
It doesn't matter if it's 2nd, 3rd, 1000th or even before 1st place xD
It needs to keep progressing, keep spreading the "network", increasing users, etc.
Along with regulation that will hit countries sooner or later, if they continue like so far, the plan is working.
At some point, it'll be logical for all their users to use XRP as well, not just their network, which in turn will increase demand (and most likely the price).
Been hodling for almost 2 years, wouldn't be surprised if I need to wait few more for my targets. (I invested a forgetable amount, so it's easy to hodl even for 20+ years).
If you're not ready to do that, you either haven't read about it enough and don't understand or you're too greedy for investing in general.

For me, there is a battle if the gap is not too wide and there was a time that Eth was dethroned although in a small period of time but Ripple will always a threat to Ethereum's spot for the simple reason their developers are working hard maybe harder than Ethereum developers.
