Who knows if satoshi is even alive and why does it matter at this point in time? Im thankful for what he created, but he left the project a long time ago and others have been carrying it since then.

But if Satoshi returns, his opinion will be influential.

Hi to all the experts out there.

I am now curious if wether, the maker of Bitcoin will approve of the upcoming soft fork? Will it create more advantages vs disadvantages? will it increase the risk of being hacked/manipulated? and will it make Bitcoin centralized?

Hope to hear some feedbacks from you the experts in this forum.

I am not an expert about this but I will give you my 2 cents just the same.

It is not anymore material whether Satoshi Nakamoto will approve of it or not. I do not even know whether Satoshi himself is meddling with this issue big time. I think what will happen is SegWit2x, the choice of miners if I'm not mistaken. The core team (with or without Nakamoto) will have to agree with it I guess. They don't have much of a choice when presented with a 90% agreement of a SegWit2x.

Advantages abound when bitcoin is stable. And so generally this agreement is for the benefit of all of us. If you notice how price shoots high, that's what I'm talking about. I don't know where you are coming from asking the increase of the risk for being hacked or manipulated and worse centralized.

Does Satoshi Nakamoto even need to approve first before the soft fork can proceed? Doesn't that make decentralized "centralized" when that happens?

This negative effect of decentralization. With centralized management, such a transition no one would even notice, but that is the only positive from centralization. Now Nakamoto may not affect bitcoin. His job was to give people the tools they need, and how to dispose of the matter.

Satoshi Nakamoto is probably dead. And in 2009, he would have never thought that Bitcoin will become so popular. Also, he might have never thought that the 1 MB bock size limit would become inadequate. Therefore, I think that he would approve the soft fork if he is still around.

My thought exactly. The great Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin to do something good for the society, for us. He would surely understand the situation right now and would have happily supported the segwit.
Here everything is depending on the growth, bitcoin as a innovation was created to support the people and later on when the user rate increases the complications too increase along with the same. By this time if Satoshi is known to the real world he could have taken necessary steps to make the network function without flaws and for the same if segwit is required sure he might approve.

Satoshi hasn't been heard from since 2010.

This ^^

Nobody is going to know if Satoshi approves of a SF. We'll probably never hear from him again.

He might as well come up with some other solution a solution which would be acceptable to all.

"SOFT FORK" imposible.

Why impossible? can you expand in layman's terms? Thanks.

because he has been spamming the same BS for a long time for unknown reasons. and he doesn't even know the difference between different proposals.
I repeat this because people constantly ask about it.

I dont know if satoshi would approve of the soft fork but im fairly certain he would have had no objections to the hardfork. Its not like this is the first time a hardfork has been needed and it was his chosen method of implementing crucial updates.

YES, and it has nothing to do with what the soft fork is about. it is because the decentralization dictates when the majority want a change opinion of one person does not matter.

and so far
- developers
- nodes
- users
- services and merchants
- miners
want this soft fork. right or wrong that is what the majority has decided and you have to accept it also.

With Segwit not gathering a lot of support from the miners, and with segwit2x having double the support from the miners, we are going to have a hard fork come August 1st. I think we should be done with it already so that we move on.

This is a very theoretical question and the only best answer would be coming from the man himself. Now, am not really a technical guy but judging the way this whole mess emerged starting many years ago, I think that Satoshi Nakamoto may not totally agree with the scaling solution and how slow they came up with this. Of course, he is a learned man and would probably approved the Segwit2x as a compromised solution to avoid the possible network split.

Now, maybe the next question is: Will Satoshi approve of a split (in case it can really happen)? This has been at the core of the market panic that recently transpired in the whole Bitcoin market.
