Depends on how one looks at it. For me, it will be a killer app because being decentralized, there won't be any issue on what "can" appear and "cannot" appear, it's like no central authority to control and dictate the terms. On another note, I just hope it won't be manipulated or in a way, misused, to an extent that it will make bitcoin look bad.

No, paying for media you can already get for free will not be the killer app.

You totally missing the point... people want instant payments for their Live content. Streamium gives instant access to the content, whilst it's happening in real time... The viewers can watch it LIVE and the content provider can receive instant micro payments.

Let's take an example : Your kids school is hosting a "show" but you are sick and cannot attend it. The school stream this "show" LIVE online for these people and charge them the same entrance fee, as they charge the people, who attended in person, via Streamium. {Or the "show" is sold out, and they just host a stream online for those who did not get tickets}

For the mothers and fathers who has sat through a 3 to 4 our show like this, it would be a great benefit.. {Let's say the wife goes, and phones the husband at work, when their child is going on, and he quickly access the stream and only pay for watching that part of the show}

There are loads of other {non-porn} related uses for this APP.

My friend paid $100 per hour for a LIVE streamed video of his kids dance competition in another country. {He could only afford to send his child and his wife} He sat at home with his family and they watched the whole performance. {It would be a lot cheaper to use Streamium}

People will find a use for it, and it will grow as soon as most of the bugs are sorted out.

The $15 per hour for the xxx rated content was a test run... people will pay much less, once there are more people using it. {Competition will push the rates down}

I think it's a great concept.    

My view is that Stremium will mainly be used for porn, this will definitely get the word out but in the end i dont see how it will be beneficial to bitcoin as a currency

I think its great, but I don't know about the webrtc technology, apple won't go webrtc with safari 

I've tried that stream mentioned and it easily could be a video loop of the girl ( in fact I'm working out a way to verify with her now!) and I have feeling will be abused by fake girls to start.  But, you are right there are bigger fish to fry with all this. I am afraid that you are right. If you are creator of decent video content then you will probably use Youtube or stream on Twitch. These services have bigger user base and audience. For now Streamium can be only really only used for sex webcam niche and be successful with it. There is already some advertisement of girls in the services section on our forum. Apparently it costs $15 to be able to watch hour of girl xxx stream...

For me, the though of empowering anyone to set-up a live stream and be able to get paid without someone taking a cut is pretty big. So you could do guitar lessons , math lessons , or you could be a live sporting event and someone might want to have sneak peak in . The application of this is pretty mine bongling.

For everyone who thinks this is bitcoin's (next) killer app, can you summarize all the benefits and why it can potentially go viral and mainstream?

Pretty sure this will be a big one. Can't wait to see a lot of hot girls using this instead of the annoying cam sites which have been known to betray them privacy wise as well as the people that paid. So yeah there is an huge market for this.

I was wondering how the audio turned out. I had a feeling you would be doing "instrument lessons" which would be very cool. The thing with Streamium is its def. in Beta mode.  Did you get your payment back from the first payment ?

Just tested stremium on their testnet. The audio-quality is like 96 kbps. No really good for streaming audio. I didn't test video, but I think it's slow and not usable for stuff like "instrument lessons". If the quality of the stream will be better, this might be a great thing.

I also had problems with connected to a test-stream I created. The problem was, that NoScript blocked some sites you need to watch / hear the stream. The problem was, that I paid for a session (20 minutes) and after the payment was received by Stremium and I landed on the stream-page, I had to allow some sites / scripts and after that, the site reloads and I wasn't on the streaming-site anymore, so I had to pay again. I don't know, if the payment from the first time was paid back, but that's a big problem at this moment.

No just some porn freaks will try it. there are already killer apps for bitcoin, like mycelium, bread wallet, getgems etc.

We shall see but I think the boat to monetise most internet content sailed a long, long time ago. It's an inconceivable idea to an awful lot of people. Even if it's forced, there'll be endless attempts to subvert it.

If you need someone to 'protect consumers' then you're advocating regulation.  Can't have it both ways.

I disagree, There are people willing to pay for immediate gratification. {Eg : A big boxing match streamed via a mobile phone, where the pay-per-view would be too expensive for some people .... Or a paparazzi getting a scoop on something NEW and broadcasting it to the world, before others get to it... etc etc}

Some people are simply bored and like to watch people do exiting stuff ...{Reality TV}

Time will tell, but I thinks this is THE ONE.

This would not be wise at all. Video streaming is good, but using it for this type of shit is just going to be bad for bitcoin. There is a reason that shit is illegal and a good one..

Yea, I found it fascinating that there are the potential for people to make tons of money, within a couple of hours, using a service like this.
Edit : Legal ways ... Streaming a kids concert at school for charity for example.

In this example a boyfriend challenged his 22 year old girlfriend to stream a video online, where she was cleaning her room, dressed in lingerie.

She got 249 viewers at $15/h {If everyone watch it for 1 hour, she would have made a staggering $3735 per hour!!!

Unfortunately it froze and she lost all income, when they refreshed the feed. {I am curious to know, what a successful attempt would cause}

It's still in beta... but it's got great potential for the early birds. {People would pay more for limited feeds}

Just imagine, if more viewers per second could be added ... I think the bandwidth will be the limiting factor or the cost for the streaming via the mobile.
