It's hard to imagine it increasing another 10x, but one can hope for it.

If that happens it's because both these forces have resolved themselves at that value.
If bitcoin is pointless then how can it reach $1000? - if people are spending it then it is more likely to reach $1000.
The value is determined by these two opposing forces.
It's not an 'either or' situation - the value is a function of the usefulness of bitcoin - these inflationary/deflationary forces constantly pull against each other to determine the value of bitcoin.

It's possible that Bitcoin reaches 1000 USD. But personally, I hope that doesn't happen because if the price of BTC just keeps rising like that, people will be encouraged to hoard instead of spending the currency. And if no one spends a particular currency, that currency starts becoming pointless.
