The bitcoin price is rising at the moment while most of the altcoin are dropping in price. Maybe they are related.

A small relation between the bitcoin and altcoins might be there, as altcoins are totally following the technology of bitcoin for their successful growth.

Generally, when bitcoin's price rises the effect on altcoin markets is positive, with exceptions of course. But there are solid arguements that the halving is already priced in, so the no price increase is certain.

what are the arguments its already priced in?

i think theres a long way up from here, halving hasn't even happened yet.

The fact that the price rose from ~240$ in October to 420$ with no apparent reason as to why. Long term support is basically non existent yet the price stays around 400$ more or less. So the halving is probably already priced in from the beginning of the year.

Many altcoins tend to keep value more or less the same regardless bitcoin price, but I think that the altcoin dump to get btc for the halving is possible too.

There are many misconceptions about halving around. Halving is known future event and it contantly affects the price - still I think most of the effect is alredy priced-in. In the light of Bitcoin hijacking/scalability problems, I do not think it will have such positive effect as it may, my guess is that Bitcoin goes down after halving if not sooner. Some better players are already there out on the field, Ethereum could easily be bigger than Bitcoin in matter of weeks.

what you have to do is to check coinmarketcap for the historic data representing the rise or fall of the altcoins price last time bitcoin has gone up then down, and you can understand how things will go, but there is nothing for sure meaning it is not going to be like last times exactly.

Only the new alt coin are dependent on bitcoin price because that the only way they can profit by trading it with bitcoin unlike ETH which have a direct exchange in dollar.

well iv been thinking and watch on what this halving might do to btc and alt coin market.

do you guys think that alt coins will go up or down in value.

one thing is for sure and that is the fact that nothing is for sure here so anything can happen. but a lot of the altcoins will most probably get dumped or become less traded. and some coins like LTC may go up because i have seen LTC act the same way with bitcoin in the past.

Most of alt coins depend on bitcoin's price because it is the main crypto currency at the moment. If btc's price either go up or down, it will have a tremendous effect on other alt coins as well. Most trader will dump their alt coin in exhacnage to bitcoin especially if btc's price is up.

Yes it will affect the alt coin because they will dimp the alt to get some bitcoin so that they can sell the bitcoin to dollars which will be more profitable to them.

Nope, don't think it'll affect altcoins at all.  You've seen how they behave, right?  Their price movements--for the really shitty coins--resemble penny stocks on steroids, and the steroids are on steroids.  They have an insane, pederastic mind of their own and bitcoin's halving nonevent shouldn't affect them.

Heres my opinion. If bitcoin goes on to have a giant speculative bubble similar to past ones. First there will be a giant sucking sound as alts all fall in value when bitcoin really starts rising. At some point alts will be too undervalued compared to bitcoin and start their own bubble rises. Some alts will rise more in percentage terms than bitcoin with bigger relative gains. The alts having their own bubbles will pop first, followed by bitcoin.

so if that is what happens it would be good to sell alts nows buy bitcoin now then hope that btc doubles or goes up a nice bit and sell for profit and buy cheap alts then sell...

this would be nice profit if that turns out true

as the halving is near , so everyone is trying to buy bitcoin with whatever they have and for that they trying to sell their other coins so the demand of bitcoin is increasing and the demand for other coins are decreasing, which results a rise in bitcoin and a drop in the other coins.

The upcoming halving have already shown its impact on altcoin market you can take a loot at few days ago there was a bloody bath on poloneix and bitrrex as altcoins dumped like 30 to 40% overnight. Not only one but all the alts price got dumped as people sold all their coin to hold bitcoin hoping a great pump in price during halving.

i was thinking that the main ones like doge ltc and maybe dash will rise.. as they are pretty stable more ltc is very stable..

eth is very hard to predict as it seams to be very unstable and alot people have different opinions on it..
i am still un sure how the other lower alts will do...
