Of course, Bitcoin is always going to be number one and the "king" as you've mentioned in your thread. About the bitcoin dominance i'm not really sure as it depends on the whales which are turning to be going for Bitcoin and not Ethereum and the other alts. It's likely going to happen, i'm talking about the 2017 alts season but we might see alot of new altcoins so be ready and afford some cash and start looking for the coins listed above the 1000's rankings.

Maybe yes or no but for now only btc seems to be taking the show, if this btc up trend continues till January 2021 maybe it will transfer to alts too, so far nothing much has happened in alts space and some are saying the bull run has just started, so let's watch and see what happens.
Altcoins will be bullish after bitcoin can find the best floor to stabilize its price. This time the price is really volatile. As far as I know that this trend will always happen. I remember that when bitcoin has been stabilize last months and then it makes altcoin can grow even more as the bitcoin traders were starting to pump the altcoin price.
In fact if that's always happening so many times. It's a common cycle.

It's a different scenario now, because back then investors are on experimental mode, because ICO's are on the hype back then but after ICO's projects scam so many investors, they are wiser now to only pick the right coin to invest, so I don't think there will be another alt season coming, each coin is for himself right now.

I agree that back then, ICO hype was driving all the alts up. The situation is obviously different now. Of course, we have some DeFi hype, just not as much as it was in the golden days of ICOs. I don't think history will repeat itself when it comes to altcoins.

This is the date when Alts were at their peak with bitcoin dominance being pushed down to all time low 35%.

This was also the date when its a day before when bitcoin bubble popped from the Dec 2017 $20k all time high to losing 75% of its value few weeks later.

Questions are:

- Can we get another similar Alt season bull market when btc is volatility consolidating at new all time highs before the bitcoin bubble gets popped like above? Or is this start of a new bull market for btc where we have to wait till next year or 2022 for another alt season peak when btc is hovering at $100k or whatever new ath it hits?

- Lets take the Benchmark Alt coin Ethereum. The price difference ratio between Eth and Btc is high now like $650 to $23000. In the 2017/18 bull market Eth was $1400 to btc $20k. Are Alts dying and BTC will be king?

- Lastly I remember in 2017/18 Alt season all the Alts were being pumped where people can very rich from this. Will it be a different story for Alts this time coming into this new bull market where only the good fundamentally altcoins will be pumped only and shitcoins this time will stay the same flat dead line?

- Best time to sell Alts when Bitcoin dominance is at its lows? This is the best indicator for selling alts?

I am quite optimistic that big bull season for altcoins will definitely come and it is expected to be in the later part of the next year so we have to keep holding and accumulate more to make some life changing financial gains.

In fact, the condition is different right now. Bitcoin price really can make big progress only in a few weeks and it can pass the ATH newly. However different from altcoin, there is still not an altcoin season yet. So that we need more time in order to wait for the altcoin season heading up.

For now, we still can not determine. However, I am sure that the altcoin season will be higher for this period than the price of the previous seasons. Moreover, let's see how the BTC is passing the new ATH. The price is higher than the previous one. Just let's see what will happen to this altcoin season next.

Waiting for the low BTC dominance means you will have a higher chance of missing the alt season train, better to buy in small parts rather than waiting for the great day to go all in. Maybe the history will repeat itself in the first weeks of next year but it is unlikely the same scenario will repeat, IMHO. The same scenario is possible because the going all in or exiting on small profit can be dangerous for naive traders. Waiting for the perfect time aka alt season is our best bet due to the mentioned reasons.

Just look at ltc litecoin  Shocked, doing very well this altcoin is

Ethereum not making massive moves like bitcoin.

If we don't see altcoins recover to previous ATH's when bitcoin dominance is down & they only recover a tiny % in the 2021 alt season then that confirm altcoin market is dead apart from Alts in the top 10 or trendy alts like de-fi or NFT's. 1000's & 1000's of alts will die off next year

Altcoins really grow more than Bitcoins. Btc is popular, it is constantly on the ear and many people buy it, inflating its value. Altcoins can not yet catch up with bitcoin in demand, but their value can grow quite quickly. In December 2017, the price of the Ripple altcoin increased 16 times in 3 weeks from $ 0.20 to $3.21.

We are likely going to experience another thing altogether, that is, something different from that of 2018. Looking at the market, it is very obvious that Bitcoin dominance is high meaning more funds are going into it, more attention is on it and it doesn't look like it is slowing down or coming down; thus the price increase is interesting. Also, looking at altcoins, it is also obvious that investors are now sticking to altcoins which will worth their investments, and that's towards top altcoins; this is also justifiable because a lot of new altcoins nowadays have nothing to offer just hype and then they dump, thus no one is willing to take that risk with them.
Lastly, I do not think shitcoins which are known to be dead will ever grow again not with the presence of altcoins like Ethereum whose team are top of their games. Therefore, it is better to invest with good altcoins so that, when there is bull run, you will be sure to gain.

It looks like the same alt season last Jan 2018 won't happen this time.  Alts aren't surging like it was in 2017 so I think the history won't repeat itself.  Probably the main reason is that, investors are much more wiser than today unlike in 2017 where majority were too naive thinking that the altcoin market surge won't stop which causes lots of people to lose their money.  Probably the altcoin market crash after its surge teaches lots of investors to do research and invest carefully not blindly that is why i don't think that we will get another 7th Jan. 2018 alt season.

I doubt we will have the same kind of event again.
Why?
Stablecoins. i.e. USDT
Before that is created, traders would usually exchange their Bitcoins for Altcoin which is the reason for a sudden pump in the altcoin industry.
It had been 2 years already and a lot of pumps and dumps happened with Bitcoin and yet we still don't see alts soaring.
That's my only reason for the dead to not rise again.

I think it will never be like that period ever again. We had both an awesome period where we have seen ATH prices, and we also saw a huge drop in price after that as well. I remember ethereum reaching as high as above 1500 dollars for example, but I also remember price being as low as 85 dollars or so after that too, which shows you that altcoins could be more volatile than you could ever imagine, it is nearly impossible to guess how horrible it could be.

I am not saying it will always be like that, I am just saying that there is a past in altcoins history that is both very bright and very dark, we should be focusing on the bright side for now but be ready for the dark as well. I think it will not be that bright nor that dark ever again, this type of 2020 year is the best we will ever get from now on.

If you see the individual coins value there is huge drop even after the crypto market cap reached new all time high which shows that number of altcoins availability is one of the reason why the marketcap value of altcoins gets diluted and individual coins are struggling to reach new all time high when it loos so much easier with bitcoin.

I think that 2021 will be an excellent year for altcoins, since in 2020 a lot of different big companies and areas began to use cryptocurrency technologies and many partnerships were arranged and I think we will see all the fruits of 2020 in 2021 and just in 2021 I expect a big altcoins pump.

Faith is the substance of something not seen but hopeful of receiving. It's the same way I look at the ATH issue of altcoins. I am hopeful that things are going to be even better once alts bulls set in, possibly in first quarters of 2021.

I am not expecting same results like 2017 to 2018, I believe things will be different this time, bitcoin already hit 20k few weeks back and it's dominance is at 65% still, altcoins only shows little uptrend and nothing more, the highest I've seen among the top altcoins is 30% but now that Bitcoin is over 22k I'm guessing it's time for altcoins season
Until that Bitcoin dominance reduces, altcoins will not moon. That's the sign I am looking out for. Once it drops below the 60% level, we will see alts soaring. That was the way it happened in 2017.

when did that happen. Bitcoin dominance is very strong these days. it took a long time to bring down bitcoin dominance, and I doubt if that time comes there will be a pump for altcoins. in fact, the current bull trend is only focused on bitcoin, and altcoins have only a slight impact. just look at ethereum struggling to break through ATH, ripple and litecoin which haven't seen any significant moves yet. and other altcoins that are still struggling despite good trends.

the bull market this time is only for bitcoin. there is no share for altcoins this time. maybe the bulls this time has little impact but that is only for selected altcoins like ethereum, litecoin, ripple, and other big altcoins. There are a lot of people who think this bullrun will be the same as it was in 2017, but I can assure you that none of that is true. there will be no more altseason, because people are no longer interested in the new altcoins on the market. so everything just focuses on the coins are big.

What about old established altcoins that came out more than few years ago that are in the top 200 ranking now? Will they recover to ATH's or even 25-50% of their former ATH's?

What about new altcoins released last year and this year, only these will go high in a bull run?

Or is it the safest bet is the top 10 ranking coins only like Ether, Ripple, Litecoin etc?

Bitcoin Cash is doing okay with still maintaining its top 10 ranking, but the chart looks dead. How is it maintaining its ranking with a dead flat chart?
