Mate, all is not well with some people, for the fact that you see and eat three square meal a day  does not mean others are having such privilege. Let me tell you straight, there is hunger in the land and the weather is not favorable to that point thereby calling for citizens unusual actions. It is very awful though that a woman could sell her baby just to survive. It is unfortunate that the situation of things has no immediate remedy and has forced people to take serious decisions.  This decision seems drastic and ruthless as task.

No matter how we want to talk about this incident, there's no way we can justify the selling of her child to repay a loan she had took earlier without even the consent of the child being sold. Let's educate ourselves a bit, under the child's rights act of Nigeria and the Trafficking in Persons Enforcement and Administration Act of 2015, to sell a child is a serious and severe criminal offense.

Depending on the severity of the case, the Child Right Act have enforced the selling of children as an offense that is punishable by 10 years of imprisonment by the court of law while the Trafficking in Persons Enforcement and Administration Act could range between 7 years under prison detention or in worse cases, life imprisonment.

This is when it's believed to be an act practiced by law breakers or bad people. Now, this case is with the mother who have labored for the child for other 9 months in pregnancy and have been catering for the child for over years now, to suddenly sell her child in place of a loan repayment continues to make it more difficult for one to comprehend. She's not to be excused for such insane attitude and while I understand the current economic realities facing us today as citizens, it should be a red line crossed to find people deliberately engaging in such heinous acts.

A woman in Lagos has been arrested  for allegedly selling her own child for loan repayment. https://www.facebook.com/100068662700306/posts/pfbid02wJ4dCkxnhCP6p5eHek3sYzvEENGSdqw1xzCDxNwHiSBgA178hmZMoXZfmRLN7Rpl/?app=fbl

when I first read this story there were two observations that came into my mind as food for thought:

1. She was asked the reason for her actions. She said she wanted to repay a loan company, the loan repayment amount was 600,000 thousand naira, an insignificant amount not even enough to exchange a human being, no amount is even enough compared to a human being.

such action by a Mother exposes how hard the economy is really biting hard on the citizenry, for a mother to go through the process of pregnancy for 9 months and the pain of childbirth and yet still go ahead to sell her own child just to repay a loan, it's like taking us back to the slavery era in modern 21st'C.

That's heartless, is actually Cristal clear that the woman does not love her child because if she does she wouldn't have even have a thought about selling her baby just to repay a loan, has she even wonder what will happen to that baby after being sold to a total stranger?, the mother that have the mind to do that can also have mind to use her child for anything just to get money, I'm not even blaming the bad economy for this because there are some certain act that deviate from bad economy and besides she is not the only one facing the bad economy because it affects everyone, so no mother will use an excuse of money to sell there child they carried for a whole nine months to settle there loan.

Desperation is the reason behind it ,bcos I don't see any other reason that will make a mother to sell her own child. In fact that woman is capable of killing someone and if care is not taking this is not the first time she is trying such. I heard numerous cases of mothers trying to sell there child without caring what the person is buying the child for.children are gift from God and shouldn't be treated this way.

Which reason will make someone to sell her only child to settle loan of #600k, which if she want to work through out the year she can repay her loan without having such thought in her mind.

Even though you find yourself in such situation, can you do what she did to use her only child to repay loan? No, you can't do that because you will think about your relatives, if they hear such thing will they be happy with you or if your church members or Muslim members hear about the matter, how will they feel about you, which no religion will be happy for such evil act to any member. Any step you take for life, you have agreed to take such steps you are following because you have conclude in your mind that you can't solve the problem without committing evil to make money to settle the bill or to establish the business.

I know say no be better thing the madam do and no religion go stupidly support this thing but like I talk e get how problem go hit you and the only thing you go think nah to do wetin first enter your head, no be everybody sabi maintain their cool when pressure come in so I no go too blame her. But there is a saying that says use what you have to get what you need but is decided not to use that saying, maybe she is not that kind of person or no available person there. For me I can't blame her for her deeds maybe she has tried all her best, and find out that there's no other way and the loan customer are disturbing her.
Then she went on to sell her child.

No amount of problem can be equated or exchanged for human life. This last paragraph of your statement can be misleeding. The law does permit it, even religious people forbids it too. So no circumstances should be a reason for doing such, if you are caught you will face the penalty.

It’s quite funny that the hardship, famine and hunger we all face today didn’t just start today or even with our generation. This story reminds me of a very popular story from the Old Testament of the Bible, those of us here who are Christians should be conversant with that story where there was a very great hunger and famine in a certain land, there wasn’t any food to eat that a group of women agreed to kill and eat their children just to save themselves, I think they were about 3 or 4 women and each they, 1 woman would submit her child to be killed, cooked and shared amongst the other women, and when they had finished eating the first woman’s child, the second woman would do the same and then the third, down to the last.

And when it was the last woman’s turn to submit her child, due to how much she loved her child, she refused to submit her child, but instead took her child and hid him when the other women came. I think this is exactly what’s happening in our world today, due to the hardship, some people are willing to go to any length just to survive and make ends meet.

The issue or case of this woman selling her child to repay  loan is indeed serious. What on earth make a mother sell her child to pay loan.
Well it may be because of the hardship she is  passing through at that moment in time.
There is no situation that would make a person sell his or her child to pay loan. Human life is more precious than anything else. The said child that was sold could be her saviour at old age. We shouldn't use because of temporary discomfort to lose everlasting comfort.

But there is a saying that says use what you have to get what you need but is decided not to use that saying, maybe she is not that kind of person or no available person there. This is really sad. Before a mother thought of selling her child off, then things must have been really extreme for her because conceiving that idea alone is next-level crazy. And for such an amount of money that can finish in a month or less considering the current economic standpoint of the country.

I can't help but wonder, now that such an incident is on the news what is both the state government and federal governments doing to stop such occurrences from happening in the future. What is the point of bringing it to the news if nothing will be done about it if nothing will be done to elevate the economic standpoint of the citizens? This is really disheartening and a big shame to the country, that her citizens have gotten poor to the extent of selling off their children, that's bad.

I wish the government would pay attention to the people and also individuals like the women in the news doing their bits like learning skills, being self-employed or legal attempts to make money, all to make this country better than joining in the corruption and oppression.

What a Sad story!

The economic hardship in recent times has been fierce for the average and poor. However, economic hardship shouldn't be a yardstick to promote greed, inhumane attitude towards humanity, corruption and so much more.

Regardless of how tough things are, I don't see a reason why any mother who has gone through a medical knife in a theatre should sell her precious child. She might say she has no helper, if that's the case, she should have calculated her decisions before embarking on it. People need to be more humane and stop being harmful to infants in the name of economic hardship.

Things have not gotten so bad. Some people just use economic hardship to escalate or embark on their evil agenda.

Baba dis kin matter serious ooo, e touch me, but the woman fuck up, na rubbish she do, no be all mothers wey we see for outside now be real mother, some of them don’t worth to be called mother, how you go carry your pikin go sell before of money, haha na rubbish now, they suppose arrest the woman and jail her.

such action by a Mother exposes how hard the economy is really biting hard on the citizenry, for a mother to go through the process of pregnancy for 9 months and the pain of childbirth and yet still go ahead to sell her own child just to repay a loan, it's like taking us back to the slavery era in modern 21st'C.
We have to be honest, I no the economy is hard now but that those not give the woman to do that, no matter how hard the economy is, selling your child shouldn’t be an option, I believe say d woman get bad mind she, if to say she no get bad mind no matter the condition she for no do like that, They suppose arrest her make dem punish her well.

Also I don’t know if government can do anything about the way all those small small loan apps de threaten people e for make sense, or make government completely stop them from operation e for make sense.

Just because the opportunity  availed itself for you to borrow a certain amount you  know you cannot pay back, doesn't warrant you to jump on the opportunity, as it's rather not an opportunity in real sense but a debt trap.
Omo.. Na better statement you just yan hear oh my dear, because true true the contri hard, but yet that's not a reason for people to take such high loan amount when you literally don't have any means of pay back, because I think it's high time people start to live according to their needs, because na our major problem be that oh, as everybody wan show up say they don arrive even when truly deep down they no get shi-shi, because wetin this woman do no make sense at all, but in some cases I blame loan apps too for insighting her into making such an abominable act of selling her baby, because I personally can't remember how many times this so called loan app "Eazybuy" don dey disturb me with several calls informing how I don qualify to access a loan amount of over #300,000 and I bet you, if no be God, I almost fell for it, and that dey among the reason why immediately, I went ahead to delete the app from my phone, so as to avoid ever been tempted in such a manner.
So loan apps are also to be blame too for given huge loans to people that just can't afford to pay back.

This is pathetic. I know that there are even worse things going on in Nigeria that would make one's ears tingle.
My thoughts on this is that:

- The story shows that the husband and the wife are not in good terms. The marriage lacks cooperation and strong leadership from the man. Because if it did, how will a wife go ahead to borrow such amount of money without the knowledge of the husband. What was the purpose of the loan?

- My hypothesis is that if a DNA test is conducted, the child may not even belong to the husband because if it is his, she wouldn't even think about selling the child.

I can't just continue imagine this, What will I call this action? Should I call it wickedness or work of devil according to religion believe.that is a very foolish idea for any parent, especially mother that goes through 9months stresses before she give birth to sell her child because she want to pay her debt.i may say they should do proper investigation on top the matter because the matter looks anyhow to me,it may not be her child the way I am viewing it, and possible she the owner of the child I don't think paying her loan will be the reason of selling her child. Infact why will someone even go for the loan it will be able to pay back?

When I be the hear the news of how a woman take sell her pikin for loan debt wey em owe, I was shocked beyond imagination that how could she take such a decision without the concept of her so-called husband. That one na big mental case be that because if to say she d stable for reasoning she no suppose to reason to sell her pikin for 600k without thinking of how the future of that kid go be tomorrow.

Seriously, as our country d so, na soso unbelievable things wey people d do so because of hardship. Na why I tell my friends sae, single life and married life no be the same. As the country d be so make peso first prepare himself financial before em enter the institution of marriage. Marriage no be child's. Know who you are spending your whole life with and the future of your kids to. Make peso no do the mistake of marrying someone who can't take of em kids tomorrow if em kick bucket(die)

As for the woman in question case, em be like sae em need physical and mental help as it seems. She needs to be taken to rehabilitation center so that em regain herself back. Because for her to take this kind step alone means sae em no d on a stable state of mind. Na urgent help she need so.

This is unrealistic Huh How could a mother sell her own child in the first place? It's too crazy, and for what? For a loan repayment?

I don't understand if people are becoming too desperate and crazy nowadays, or if I'm just constantly surprised by such news. I understand that she might not have any other options to pay off her loans, but selling your own child goes against humanity and is reminiscent of slavery.

Even if she's living a tough life and might end up going to prison, it's her problem, not the child's. The child must be free and has their own rights that no one can take away from them, the mother should go to jail and be punished for even considering such an act.
