Why would i be mad if Satoshi decides to sell his cryptocurrencies, after all it's his own coins and he decides to do with it as he please. But i believe for the love of the technology he developed he would only sell some and hold not dump all of them in the market.

STOP SNITCHIN'
As I know this amount is huge, and selling can ruin the crypto market. On the other hand, sale will be over the counter however, this will affect us psychologically.

What, you don't think Satoshi would send all his coins to Bitfinex? Smiley

I don't think there's enough liquidity anywhere -- OTC or otherwise -- to handle the Satoshi coins. In a decade or two, quantum computers might lead to the theft of these coins. I just hope there's enough market liquidity by then.

Nothing lasts forever
To be honest, most of the people are selfish. Yes, I would be mad if Satoshi sold all his coins in one go. I would not be mad on Satoshi but I would be mad at the situation.
Obviously the price would go drastically down and this would scare everybody's ass here. But then every action has an opposite reaction.
If Satoshi would sell all his coins this would mean that more coins will be active in supply of bitcoin. So we will be able to accumulate more coins in the future.  Grin Grin

I think if satoshi even moved one coin from one of those early addresses the price would drop dramatically from all the panic that would happen.  I think the day will come eventually but not till bitcoin is widely adopted and a large sell off wouldn't affect the price too much.

While I'd prefer the coins to not be dumped in one go but instead in increments(as to not dramatically flash crash the market), why should we stop Satoshi? It's his coins, from his own creation. He/she/they have every right to dump every single one of the bitcoins if Satoshi wants to. It's a free and open market.

I hope they do.  Cool
Convince him then. Best of luck.

@mjglqw I’ll second that it’s his coins and he can hodl them or sell them it’s his personal decision he’s not answerable to the community. While I have no objections if Satoshi were to sell his coins I only hope he doesn’t sell it in one go, otherwise it’ll completely crash bitcoins market forever. @Timebits who’s they do you actually believe Satoshi is a group of persons, and not a single person care to share some proof?.

Bitcoin is risky investment because of it's volatile value.

I've prepare anything worst about this kind of investment so I can't do nothing if that happening, right ?
When you decide to invest on crypto, you already understand the risk

Unfortunately it will not happen. I have doubts even Satoshi wouldn't bother to sell his coins ever especially bitcoin  Wink.

I don't know why some people's worried about it. Obviously Satoshi isn't a stupid who have  created bitcoin. So how we will believe that he will dump his own creation. I am not worried about it even he sell his coin. Because I am expecting he will not sell like stupid.

Is it even possible to sell all those 980,000 coins in one go? I don't think that there is enough liquidity in the market. The prices will crash, and there will be a dearth of buyers in the exchanges. The vast majority of the coins will remain unsold (unless the whales decide to make use of the purchasing opportunity). BTW, what will happen to the forked coins in the wallet? I am referring to coins such as BCH, BTG and BSV. These coins are even more unlikely to be sold completely.

He wouldn't be crazy enough to sell all his bitcoins at once unless his original goal was really to crash the market value one day.
But I doubt that this is the case (unless it was the really NSA that created BTC lol). I wouldn't be mad at him but I would like if he can tell me before he decides to sell in waves, so I can exit before.

LOL, Imagine that, "hey guys I am going to sell, so make sure you sell before me" hahahahha yah right.

Spoiler: They purpose crash the market so people stay using USD, showing decentralized currencies are not safe and this is why we need big brother in our anus.

Price goes to zero before they can sold out their bitcoins.
Who's know maybe he want to use their wallet to make something big in climax situation. This may be pump the price with burning their btc's

correct they would not even be able to sell them all before it crashed to 0. I think tho if they came back and just said "hello" on the forum the fiat price would like 10-100x overnight. It would 100% hit main stream news.

Anyways, you know who else could crash the market to 0? Mark Karpeles and Bulgaria almost could lol.

Anyone who could buy enough asic`s could also burn the network pretty quick and that would make it go to 0 and even worse, make the network unusable. So even 1 bitcoin = 1 bitcoin would not even matter.

I have to say that I don't understand really this question. According to this question the presumption is that you know that Satoshi has some coins but you can't actually now it. Also, he has every right to do what he wants and despite some different opinions he doesn't have any obligations to any of us so why should anyone be angry or even think it has the right to be angry because of his decisions.

It depends on how he/she/they sell it. If Satoshi sells the coins on a OTC platform, then it would have less of a influence on the Bitcoin price, but if Satoshi sells the coins on exchanges, then I would be pissed off, because it will destroy the price.  Roll Eyes

It is also important to note that he might dump all coins at once and this will definitely wreak havoc on exchanges.

The first coin accessed will even cause a "Bank Rush" scenario on exchanges in anticipation of a possible price collapse.  Tongue

I cant believe that one of top merit earner posted a topic like this on bitcoin discussion section.

I dont really get your point here OP, I have 2 questions for you "why and what".

WHY - you want satoshi to sell all their coins right now?
WHAT - is your purpose on posting topic like this?

i dont see any problem if he is a top merit earner and he will post a topic like this  . why because you find this question a joke ?  no its not a kind of joke . your asking why will satoshi sell his coins ? obviously because he want to earn a profit . and what is the op's purpose of posting a question like this ? maybe because he is only curious to know other opinion .   instead o stressing yourself about the op , why cant you just answer his queries ? eh ?

Where is my ring of blades...
why would anybody get mad because of something like that?
obviously that will never happen because of variety of reasons including the size of it, ... but even if it did, people should be happy that one of the biggest nonsense discussions would end for good about how much bitcoin Satoshi has and what happens if he sells. it is like the bandaid that you pull off once and for all instead of poking at it every day. and on top of that it introduces a small portion of the supply back into circulation again which will again address another nonsense discussion about "is there enough bitcoin for everyone"!

the difference between Satoshi and you is that Satoshi sees bitcoin as a currency which is there to act as a payment system but you see bitcoin as something you only "buy and sell" with fiat and probably only see the monetary gains in it and nothing more. and that is why you concern yourself with questions like this one and waste your time speculating about it!

in other words if some day Satoshi decides to come back, he won't come back to "sell" his bitcoins for fiat because that doesn't make any sense. he would come back to use it as a currency to make transactions.

I never bought bitcoins or sold them for fiat.

How did I obtain some? Playing a game called huntercoin, someone 1 gave me a life .001 btc at the time, I turned that life into 4000 or 5000 lives, exchange the huc for btc, I then gambled and owned all the casinos.
I also got paid from working for a altcoin, for being a store manager for a altcoin, which I would exchange some of that altcoin for bitcoin.

How did I spend some? Computer, laptop, clothes, med`s, vape, vape juice, food, bunch of shit on amazon(when that gyftcard site use to allow it, although this is almost as bad as selling for fiat as you are buying representations of fiat)

amount of fiat used: 0
amount of fiat gained: 0 (I could have some, I rather not)

I am the one who preaches the first sentence of the whitepaper brother.

If he is still alive he is probably selling, but not from known genesis block accounts . there is no reason to do that.

Clueless!
If that happened, supposing he was from the USA and legal..and paid the 25% capital gains tax in Millions. With also possibly state and local taxes.

He would most definitely for his trouble get an audit by the IRS.

Also, the beginning blockchain stuff he had addresses on would be gleaned for dark web stuff

his life would be frigging over because I'm sure he spent some kind of BTC for pizza or stuff at 10,000 BTC or so. But indeed a 2009 BTC on the blockchain

you made say for 2c and you bought a 1,000 TV with such. You would owe the IRS $999.98 to the IRS as 'capital gains' tax.

He would be BEYOND HOSED, again, even if he tried to do the right thing, and get out of the whole works, legal like he won the lottery.

They would still come after his ass. Sad Hate to say it, but with billions and blockchain to look at it all, it would be just too, too tempting for the IRS and others to kick his ass.

Not sure, I could be MORE sure about this.
