You say 'getting greedy', and I say 'getting out of competition with credit/debit card thieves who can offer Amazon purchases for almost any discount and still profit with near-zero expenses'...

Let's call the whole thing off!

People who are used to getting massive discounts that thieves offer like to call honest retailers "greedy" for trading for a tiny margin (if any). I have even been accused of being a scammer for selling a gift card at face value (because con artists offer it cheaper elsewhere). People like you (op) are the reason people like me don't sell gift cards any more.

I advertise my gift cards at face value, I wouldn't say they never get sold. It just takes a while and you have to hustle when people put up WTBs for gift cards & proxy purchases.

what's the difference if say "authorities" ask me, "hey that product you received at a discount from amazon was purchased illegaly"

my answer:  hey, I am the buyer...I purchased this from someone that posted on Craigslist and said they offer Amazon Discount service for 15% off...why are you blaming me?

I do not trust purse as they can not stop carded purchases. Saving some money with the risk of fraud is not worth it. I use gyft.com and have absolutely no concerns about the codes be legit or not.
True, since amazon has your address as well (and the buyer might use the address for bad purposes as well), they can track you down and charge YOU for fraud, instead of the guy that used the stolen credit card.
20% is really not worth the risk, gyft gives 5% off and thats a GUARANTEED rate, with no chance of fraud, and its your own account.

Exactly - Plus the carded purchases might not get caught for a month or 2. Saving some % is just not worth the hassle.

Gyft gives a very low discount and how can you be sure they're legit as opposed to purse?

Besides I refuse to accept that purse is based on cc fraud. They're too big for that.

There are a number of half answers here so I'll toss some specifics out..

1. As one poster stated Purse acts as a marketplace putting buyers and sellers together, that long list of orders on Purse is people posting orders with discounts in mind, anything under 15% will generally get picked up by someone in a few hours, a bit more and it gets harder but can happen.. The reality is that there is only so much margin in the marketplace..

2. Purse will buy if the order is under 5%, they generally use cards sold to them but if they are now a bulk buyer at Amazon they can realize upwards of 10% off.

3. Along with the convenience Purse does offer some protections if someone tries to defraud using Purse, in my opinion the fee is worth it..

Posting on the forums asking for a discount greater then purse, when 10-50% off is posted on Purse right now really opens you up to fraud with no protection.. Good luck to you..

Let's call the whole thing off!

Do you know that for sure?

Do you know how purse can offer 20%? Are they stealing cards?
Its not actually purse that buys it, its basically a bitcoin exchange. You give them your btc, and for a fee (quite large) they buy your item.
Its very fast if you want btc, put up your offer and you can get btc within minutes, but bank wires and transfers can take days.
But 20% is quite big for buying btc, even for how fast it is.
There might be an additional discount, so it closes the percentage to maybe 5% fees the buyer pays.

Theories:

Purse itself as opposed to its sellers, is buying cards from Amazon at wholesale discount. See all those cards in retail stores, and the codes that Gyft Coinstars spit out? There's no added fee for buying them, which means they have to be getting them at a discount to be making a profit/enough for operating expenses.

Amazon Associates referral fees might be involved too.
