Looks like invites are closed.

codler sent me an invitation for 0.1 BTC and I am registered on Google+. It's closed to self-requested invitations, but not to friends of friends who were invited.

Looks like invites are closed.

Google+ is in limited Field Trial
At the moment, we're testing with a small number of people, but it won't be long before the Google+ project is ready for everyone. Leave us your email address and we'll make sure that you're the first to know when we're ready to invite more people.

I laugh at the people trying to make a quick buck out of selling the invites.

To all prospective buyers: the invites are free and unlimited to hand out by people with current Google+ accounts. You should be able to get them for free or a very nominal amount (read: dumbass above me is asking for too much).

why laugh? People want invites, and are willing to pay. I assume you're giving yours away for free?

Limiting the amount of people that can use it by making it invite only is stupid. They did that with wave and look how that went. A social network is just that. Social. What's the point in a "revolutionary new network" if none of your friends are on it because they didnt get invites?

It's not limited to make it popular, it's limited because it's not done yet. They're done with internal testing and are now doing a beta basically with "normal" people. Since they knew the press would get wind of this from anyone in the "beta" they just made the press a part of the beta so it could actually be covered properly. Once they actually get it to launch they've said they don't plan on limiting the number of people that can use it.

Ever hear of facebook?  it was limited to schools for a long time.  Didn't seem to hurt it's popularity.

I don't think there's really any point in asking for invites this early. Hell, even people with invites right now can't get onto the service yet.

I have no doubts this is just incorporating all the things from Google Wave and Buzz.

Function wise they have had the ability to be like Facebook forever.  I guess it was a matter of time before Facebook numbers would be dropping and trust in them would go down.

This is curious though as to what Facebook will do now, they plan to be a public company next year I think, so they should be getting on top of this situation right away.  Love competition.

Ah, so people are going to be hounding for those invites like they did when Buzz was released.

Let's see if the product can back up all the attention it will probably get

Wait what?  You have to be invited?

I guess I have an invite, I have that set up on my site for a couple of weeks now

http://www.google.com/+1/button/ is this it?

Nope, it's not the +1 button ;-) Google+ is a new social network, similar to Facebook
