Just a thought, but I have concerns with silicone long term leaving spots in a similar fashion as PVC does on metals....I could be wrong, but I would be very hesitant to seal the bars in silicone long term myself.

I don't have any knowledge of this issue, so I should do some r & d and talk with my metal suppliers as well - thanks for the valid concern! So I'm afraid a hard plastic could scuff the metal, and the silicone could leave potential spots from what you are saying - perhaps there is another solution as well. I plan to use funds from the ruby lab sales to tackle this and hopefully bring a working solution soon - followed by similar cases for my older, larger designs. I can run tests myself once I get samples in, hopefully soon.

Max I would be a little concerned as well.  Long term I don't like to keep silver in anything besides hard plastic capsules.  I think these plastic cases like I'm using really are best when customized and or have foam padding.  When fit right and made with the proper plastic I really think the bars will be well protected..  It's a project that's for sure  Cheesy

Edit- maybe I’m wrong too. Also- I wonder how clear it can really be vs hard plastic, which is obviously perfectly transparent.

I've found that 10 oz silver bar capsules work pretty well for the new Kialara Moon bars.  If you want them snug you've gotta put some sort of insert in them.

oh wow... very awesome that you found a decent capsule.
Maybe for a little more protection, cut the top piece of foam in half and use the other part for the bottom, so the bar has something to sit/rest on rather than the hard plastic.

and was this a certain brand you ordered?
I just ordered these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/10oz-Silver-Bar-Direct-Fit-Air-Tite-Capsule-Holders-10-Pack/301814345743
If they fit, I will have some extras if anyone wants/needs one or a few Cheesy

I'm pretty sure I got them here as it's where I buy all my capsules - https://www.air-tites.com/5-oz-and-10-oz-silver-bar-holders.htm#.WrQ1qqjwYdU

I agree- foam on both sides would be best.  I just quickly put this together to show how well it works.  However even with out foam I don't think this plastic is all that harmful to the bars even when sliding around a little...not advocating this of course as foam on both sides is certainly best.

I have a supplier currently looking into producing these https://imgur.com/bpP2Ggw for me in a clear, soft silicone material https://imgur.com/rgJJ0HT

Looks good and great idea with soft silicone

Yes no concerns with scratching looking forward to production hope all goes well.

Let me know if these work as I could use a 10 pack as well.

Nice find ChiBitCTy!

I got custom slabs made for the Genesis Series 2 coins from plastixrevolution.com
Worth a shot... and easy to deal with!!!
Let me know if you need more info!! Cheesy

MJ- I had never seen the Genesis slab at time of posting this.  Now that I'm well familiar with it, I was thinking something like that would be awesome!  I just bought a bunch of different things on amazon to try and make a case and it all sucked. Hence the Resurrection of this post.

Is this a project plastixrevolution would like to take on?  BG4 get his bar?  Cheesy    We've got plenty of demand for cases right?

I guess it might be hard to make a universal case for all models esp Moons (though maybe not impossible).  Max did mention he's been looking in to this as he knows the demand is there as well but it would only be for the Moon bars at first.  We gotta have something for these already.

Just looking for peace
From another thread if you have not already seen it  (I'll likely to keep looking a little for a universal case).

"I've started thinking more seriously about protective casings and I've ordered a dozen different kinds from different manufacturers this year. None that are a perfect fit, I'm just working out what I'm wanting exactly and what materials to use. I worry a little that any hard plastic case could potentially scratch a polished mirror surface, while a PVC vinyl material would not. There are more options available if you go with an opaque container, but I know people might prefer a transparent one. I haven't ruled it out though.

Originally my cases were designed to protect the coin inside, but it wasn't long before I realized my cases could use cases of their own. And I do plan to produce something... most likely for the new moon bars first, as I plan to continue releasing works at this new size. And I can't promise it will be anything fancy, as I may end up leaning towards function over form in this scenario. But I am working on a solution nonetheless.

I know some iPhone cases and even business card cases can work, too: http://imgur.com/Uc6my1U"

Interesting but the phone case and business card cases aren't good at all , i would rather keep them in the original translucent pouches instead.
Though i'd be interested in a good amount of a transparent case.
Looking forward what everyone is working on and willing to provide.
I'm sure if something nice comes up , i will pick a decent amount given they are a fir for all or separately made for each bar...

I spoke with a friend today who is interested in picking up his first Kias (I will be bidding on the Gold/silver paid for him) - he is going to ask this artist girl he knows if she's willing to take on a limited run case for varied kialara amounts & types.

Will update once I know more.

Looking forward to any progress in this space we can make! Thanks!

Well not so great news today from Air-tites.  " Yes, I recognized the name as a repeat customer which we appreciate.  We are not actually the manufacturer of the air-tite products.  You would want to contact airtiteholders.com in regards to having new products made.  I can tell you that it usually takes a high demand over a long period of time for them to create a new product as creating a new die is expensive but they do usually get around to making holders for popular items.  I have been getting more and more inquiries about bitcoin rounds etc lately so it is possible".

Well being that these are not rounds (and the fact that you can find air-tites with foam padding already for those-Not an encouraging email (I'm curious how many everyone would want each if a universal capsule was made? I think 100 might be the minimum anyone would be willing to make and now pretty convinced it'd be too hard to get direct fits for each version?).  I will still reach out and have a few other ideas in mind.  I will make this happen for all of us somehow!  I always want to show my Kia's off but I don't ever touch them with my fingers and showing a friend one with gloves on who might not even know what Bitcoin is..kind of a weird thing  Cheesy    I'll keep everyone posted.

Probably a silly question and after a little research it looks to be off the table but worth asking.  3D printing?  From my MINIMAL knowledge/research it looks like those things only make molds out of some sort of non-plastic material or at least hard/clear plastic?  That is a 3D printing machine that isn't insanely expensive, pretty sure those things can make whatever if you have an industrial one.

Not a silly question, 3D printing would be used to design the prototype and test fit the bar(s).  After that the final design would then be sent off to another company for production in acrylic.  I do a lot of 3D printing and design myself and have a thread with more information.

Very cool-thanks!  I have just been trying to dream up any possible scenario.

The slip case doesn't meet the needs of something that would be a multi-kialara display case -- but not a bad idea for singles.

Would be cool if they could be graded by one of the grading institutions as well..

Not to be a downer here but ANACS or whoever will likely reject the submission... it's not a coin, it's a bar.  Roll Eyes

I have read/heard the same.  It already sucks enough that my favorite grader NGC wont do Casascius coins.  While I would still have wanted this "magical" slab/case/capsule we all seek for our Kia's...I would have sent some to ANACS or NGC a while ago and not had the search of a lifetime and maybe just gave up all together.
