banks let us fund and pay for eth development, then clone for free. I wouldnt like to say that the eth dev team wouldnt get some donations to help them out getting set up and for some support or training.

If you look at the history of companies like R3 you get the bigger picture. Initially 11 banks did a two week test and learn trial utilizing the ethereum platform (not the public chain). This provided a reason to pump ETH (the public chain, not the platform) price via various forums and low quality news sites for months afterwards. Later on R3 did more testing with a group of 40 banks except they abandoned ethereum altogether and tested other blockchain platforms by Eris Industries, IBM, Intel and Chain. R3 has since moved on and developed their own platform. Most of these news stories involving banks represent a test for the banking community to learn about the blockchain. It is unlikely that any bank will ever be involved with the public chain ETH and it's price should never be based on  experiments with private chains.

It's important when reading news articles to determine if the content is about the ethereum platform (essentially a software package that blockchains and smart contracts can be created from) and ETH (the public chain that was created initially to fund the Ethereum platform). When paying attention to this detail most articles are not about the public chain; although, often presented in various forums as if they are.
