Hi Bit-vape, I am interested in purchasing for my uncle, who has never tried e-cigs before, and since he's been smoking 20+ yrs I'd like for him to make a transition to the healthier vaping alternative. What would you recommend for the complete novice?

by the way, I'd be interested in a barter trade for your 1 oz silver BTC rounds for my vaping gear.

Hi Bit-vape, I am interested in purchasing for my uncle, who has never tried e-cigs before, and since he's been smoking 20+ yrs I'd like for him to make a transition to the healthier vaping alternative. What would you recommend for the complete novice?

I would get him an eGo starter kit and a couple bottles of e-liquid in some flavors he likes.   I would also snag a drip tip, because most vapers quickly get frustrated by fiddling with refilling cartridges and eventually move on to 'dripping' straight into the atomizer - this gives a much stronger/more flavorful hit and lets you forget about cartridges forever.

You might also get a low-resistance atomizer - in these the atomizer coil gets a lot hotter and therefore give a much stronger hit.  The starter kits come with regular atomizers, I can't use them anymore because they aren't strong enough so I only use LR attys, but it might be 'too much' for a beginner.

The Joye 510 starter kit is also good, it uses the same standard 510 atomizers as the eGo, but the battery is much smaller and therefore only lasts a few hours before needing to recharge, while the eGo batteries last me all day.  Also a regular 510 battery isn't recommended for use with low-resistance atomizers because they put more of a drain on the batteries.

Well you can take my word for it as an avid vaper for 2 years, those things are cheap toys and will not satisfy a smoker.   It is simply too underpowered to provide satisfaction.  I started out with the crappy e-cigs and ended up spending tons of money buying different models that were not satisfying me until I got my first eGo, and I stopped looking because I had found what I needed.

The vaping community is huge, and they are serious about their vaping gear.   People were rigging up huge 'mods' with powerful battery arrays and dual- and triple-coil atomizers to increase the power of their devices to get the nicotine hit they desired.   Now the technology has advanced and you can get a similar experience using the low-resistance 510 atomizers on the market today paired with the eGo battery.  These are incredibly popular devices, just go on youtube and see all the happy reviews:

eGo reviews

If you don't want to take my word for it, feel free to do some research on these cheap underpowered devices and you will find that the people who buy them have to go back to regular cigarettes because the cheap e-cigs weren't 'doing the job' for them.    If there is a demand for them, I could sell the cheap ones too on my site, but I don't want my customers to buy something they will regret, or try the cheap e-cigs and give up on vaping altogether because they think all e-cigs are like the cheap ones.

Those cheap ones are mostly sold by companies who sell a huge variety of cheap Chinese junk and who have no idea about vaping gear, they just want to push inexpensive products.  If you go and check out the largest e-cig stores online you will find the same products I'm selling because that is what the real vapers want.

How are these vapes better than the super-cheap starter kits you can get directly from China? Here's one from TinyDeal for less than $5 with free shipping:

Update, Great news for Canadian vapers -  BitVapes now carries Canadian-made mixed to order high quality juices, courtesy of Maple Leaf Vapes.
I have added their catalog of 30 amazing flavors to my site, with no markup.   Check out some of the awesome new flavors like Maplebacco, Vanilla Cupcake, Black Cherry Tobacco, Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Raspberry and more!

Canadian-made E-liquids at BitVapes

These juices ship out of Canada, so now Canadian customers no longer have to worry about slow shipping from China or customs problems importing nicotine liquid!  But they also ship world-wide so you don't have to be Canadian to try these awesome new flavors.

If you do stock juice, go with a good manufacturer.  RY4 is probably the best I have found however my previous supplier switched recipes and the color went from a almost honey gold to a light yellow and the flavor was very different.  I don't get people that go for the tobacco flavors, once I quit smoking the last thing I wanted to taste was an ashtray Smiley

I also don't like the tobacco flavors anymore, but they were good when I first used e-cigs to easily get me off tobacco cigarettes.   I want to find a US juice provider who will work with me to add their product to my store, anyone have a recommendation?  I used to order a lot from TastyVapor.us, their stuff tastes great but tends to clog my atomizers for some reason.

I would focus on selling 5 things, kits, atomizers, tips, chargers and batteries.  Pick the best of each and pull in some stock.

Juice is a hard sell, you can have a bazillion flavors but then you have to keep stock of every nic level and size plus the manufacturers may change the batches which leads to returns.

Just start with the basics, your RY4, 555, etc. and expand from there. Smiley

I hope you do this soon. 0.73BTC "flat rate" shipping is fine if you have a giant order, but not so great if you want just one or two little things.

I dislike the shipping costs too, I am losing $6 on the shipping every order because I refuse to charge $16 for shipping which is what it costs me.   I am working out how I am going to solve this.  I plan to stock up inventory here in the US on commonly ordered products and offer them in a 'free shipping items' section.  These will be shipped USPS from my in-stock inventory.

However I still want to expand the items in my store beyond what I could possibly maintain in local inventory, so if people want obscure items or large orders they can get still order them via EMS from China, arriving in less than a week usually for $10.

I have another shipping option available, China Air Mail.  I can offer this much cheaper than EMS but it usually takes at least a couple of weeks for the item to arrive.   I will add this option soon for people who aren't in a hurry to get the product and want a cheaper option.

Just a note though, EMS to mid US takes all of 4 days.  I was scared at first with the whole 25 days thing but have ordered from several places in china and with EMS delivery and its always 4 days.

Currently, the products are shipped from the manufacturer in China.  After I build a bigger customer base and get more feedback like this, I'll know better what my customers are ordering and I'll be importing the goods myself from China in advance and re-shipping them from the United States.  This will allow me to source the products cheaper, and have faster and cheaper re-shipping so I'll be able to lower prices a bit and get the product to customers in North America a few days sooner.

I hope you do this soon. 0.73BTC "flat rate" shipping is fine if you have a giant order, but not so great if you want just one or two little things.

I agree with the 510 recommendation.  I use a 1000 eGo 510 with LR atomizers and a driptip.

Props for selling vape stuff for BTC but your prices are insanely high, knock your margin down to a respectable level and I would buy from you.

@tysat  Try http://www.greenhouseone.com, it looks like bitvapes has a 60% markup from their prices however, they do not accept BTC.

I may be making a purchase shortly... but have no idea where to start.  Any suggestions for where to read up some about e-cigs?

The biggest e-cig forum is here.  Unfortunately its a huge unwieldy community, kind of like these bitcoin forums.   Here is a (sort of old) FAQ in their newbies section -
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/40211-faqs-frequently-asked-questions-about-electronic-cigarettes.html

when I first started vaping, I learned the most by just watching youtube reviews on different vaping products.   There are dozens of videos showing how to use the eGo or eGo-T.   There are type A and type B, both work great, just a small difference in size/shape of the atomizer.

I've tried probably 20 different models of electronic cigarettes from the first 901 I bought, to standard 510s, 401s, 801s, different mods like the screwdriver, cisco laser mod, box mods, various iterations of puresmoker mods,  passthroughs, etc.    Never really found something I could be totally happy with and stop looking for something else until I got my first Joye eGo kit maybe a year and a half ago.  These are great devices, sleek and simple yet powerful, and inexpensive.

I personally have been using the standard eGo batteries and low resistance 510 atomizers, with 24mg strength liquid.   Inexperienced vapers might prefer to start with the standard resistance 510 atomizers.  The low-resistance ones hit much harder.
