The Announcement:On/about August 29, 2016, member
"Dave Wilkinson" announced the formation of
Monero Classic (XMC) here:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/xmc-monero-classic-a-secure-private-untraceable-cryptocurrency-1600638
Missing Information Pending? As of this writing, there are no known:
- Mining Pools
- Mining Software Instructions
- Simple Wallet Software Directions
Follow the Money:"Dave Wilkinson" advised:
a total of 12,769,305 XMC will be available in a 7 day crowdsale, you may participate with the link below. Approx ~100btc will be raised
If one multiplies ~100 BTC by the current price of ~ $574.00, that is approximately
$57,400.
This is how much "Dave Wilkinson" is asking for,
up front, before he will, allegedly, show you the product.
Rebuttal from Credible Source:The same day "Dave Wilkinson" announced his new coin, fluffypony (well known and respected member; and dev from Monero) indicated that:
I do not endorse cryptocurrency crowdsales, as they end up as scams 99.9% of the time. In addition, part of the reason that Monero has become at all successful is because we had no crowdsale, no premine, no instamine.

PlagiarismIf one compares the original Monero thread here:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/xmr-monero-a-secure-private-untraceable-cryptocurrency-583449 to "Dave Wilkinson's" Monero Classic, one will observe that he/she simply did a lot of cut and pasting.
Another Inquiry Thread:There is another thread here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1600647.20 which is addressing the concerns associated with the coin. It is:
"Topic: XMC(monero classic) SCAM, don't invest it."
The Premine:It is also concerning that "Dave Wilkinson" may be attempting to obscure the fact that this is a premine:
From Dave on/about August 30, 2016:
There will be no premine and a ledger of distributed bitcoin sales will be posted publicly on the main site and also a link in the ANN.
Crowdfund is for ongoing maintenance and active development.
...and the same day:
There is no premine.
...and a few minutes after that:
Let me correct that, there is no premine for the developer, there will however be a set premined amount for distribution.
12,769,305 XMC
Intentions?From Dave on August 31, 2016:
There is a darknet exchange currently being purpose built with the sole currency to be used is Monero Classic, acting as a stabilization fund.
With top vendors on board from AlphaBay and Dream marketplace.
These sites are noted for unhindered trade, but also
CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES.
Allegations of Fraud?On/about August 31, 2016, member "M.minor" posted this is the Monero Classic thread:

Hello, I sent MY ACCOUNT
empty-explain your position, I understand that you are satisfied
Initial Conclusion:Based upon the lack of information, such as mining pools, wallets, websites, plagiarism and a premine with the intent to collect money (BTC) in advance of services rendered, the apparent obfuscation by "Dave Wilkinson," that this was or was not a premine, the alleged purpose of said premine, the alleged design use of the coin for the Darknet, the lack of a core dev team, the implication that this is a one man or one woman operation; it is asserted that this coin has all the earmarks of a fraudulent enterprise and/or one specifically designed to assist criminal enterprises such as Alphabay.
U P D A T EThe new name for
Monero Classic is....ZION
Beware...all the same earmarks of previous coin -- many concerned that this remains a SCAM.

Both the new thread for ZION and the old Monero Classic thread are nearly identical.
Remember:Ask yourself -- where is the coin? Before you invest.
These types of scammers generally create what are called
"sockpuppet" accounts (false identity accounts) to make it appear as if many people are excited about the project.
Typically, these scammers are after the naive and yes,
suckers.
