Can you explain it a bit in more detail for a newbie? How is NiceHash influencing the nethash? Are people jumping from coin to coin?

I haven't looked at the details here but that can happen if the prices fluctuate rapidly.

Secondly the network hash rate isn't directly measurable. There are only ways of estimating it but they can introduce large errors.

Trying to install new wallet GUI..and not sure how backup my old wallet. There is no wallet.dat file.
Any help plz? Running windows 64 bit. Thx  Smiley

You can either restore the wallet with the .keys file + its password or the 25 word mnemonic seed. Note that, on Windows, you can find the .keys file in Documents\Monero.
Thx dEBRUYNE...I understand now. Smiley

They sell bulk hashing power, somebody probably bought a large amount of cryptonight and pointed it at XMR for a short time.

Why is the network hash rate going up and down so often by almost 25% within a few hours?

Probably nicehash.

....possibly gaining some exposure because these folks learn that you have coins and also might learn too much about your personal details and your possible bitcoin hodlings, and gosh we likely have to take additional precautions regarding how much we expose ourselves and our coins.. and even if it might be inconvenient to NOT store too many coins in such a way such as on local bitcoins or some of the wallets that we might use in our trading?

Hmm if only there was something a little bit more  private and flexible etc.

Flippin' burgers since 1163.
Cool, these days the price goes up, is this because there is an impact of the bitcoin hardfork issue so many users are diverting to altcoin including Monero?

There is a separate Monero thread for price related chat:

Hey guys, I've noticed a few people in here mention about corrupted chains so I thought I'd point this out. Apparently INTEL chips have a bug that causes corruption on intensive cpu tasks such as mining.

https://themerkle.com/intel-cpu-bug-can-be-disastrous-for-windows-users-running-a-bitcoin-node-or-wallet/

Should I have on my tin foil hat? Producing cryptographic keys generally is cpu intensive.
You should have had that on a few cpu generations back. Cheesy
Backdoors abound in all sorts of hardware.

If that is the case than cryptocurrencies will provide the greatest bug bounties ever for that sort of thing. Seems like they wont last long in a world where cryptocurrencies have gone even semi mainstream. Bonus value.

Has the GUI window scaling issue on low-resolution displays (i.e. a netbook's maximum screen resolution of 1024 x 600) been resolved in the latest GUI release? Pardon me as I haven't been regularly following this thread since I brought it up a couple of months ago.

I'd suggest to try it out and if it doesn't work properly for you, please open an issue on Github (or post it here and I'll add it to Github).

There was already an issue thread on Github which I added onto. Since it is still "Open", I assume that it hasn't been resolved...or has it?

https://github.com/monero-project/monero-core/issues/754

I am not actually sure. Issues sometimes remain open even if solved, because no one simply closed it. Could you check by downloading GUI v0.11.0.0?
