Let me put it another way.

1) GUI
2) General media attention.

Done.

What's wrong with the web wallet GUI recently released?

And I would add #3: China. The Chinese largely drove 2013's runup at the end of the year and they are running up XRP/STR right now:

http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ripple/#markets
http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/stellar/#markets

BTC38 is the #1 exchange for both of these coins. If we can get the Chinese community onboard then it'll be a huge win.

Nothing's wrong with the web wallet - it's fantastic.  Smiley

Nonetheless, a local GUI wallet is fundamental to user expansion. I think everyone understands this so there's no need to expand upon it here.

Agreed on China, although it's difficult to determine the cultural weight of the libertarian argument over there. I suspect 'minimal government' and 'communism' are somewhat irreconcilable concepts. ;-)

In summary (in order of appearance):

1) Lower emission (need to wait for that for a couple of years).
2) Drastic increase in adoption (in numbers of coins).
3) Increased Investors.
4) Black Swan event.
5) China and Russia and Japan.
6) Having 12 middle class private people "investors" onboard.

I like to add (or is that included in 4?):

7) General media attention.

It still needs both of the two or one of them:

1) Lower emission (need to waite for that for a couple of years)
2) Drastic increase in adoption (in numbers of coins).

Period.

All the other stuff listed are included into those two categories. Unfortunately Monero is very unlikely going to increase from the current numbers any time soon. Patience is needed. I am sorry to tell this.  Cry

Guys,

The monero price is so low that an uptrend can be started by having 1-2 middle class private people "investors" onboard.

Don't make things sound overly difficult.  Cheesy

You did not answer this in the correct form! Fixed, Smiley

6) having 1-2 middle class private people "investors" onboard

You got the form wrong too.  It has to be Number Four.  EG:

4) Black Swan

My overall approach has been to short u.s. equities, rolling gains into xmr via btc.  The short gains part is now locked in.  It looks like a very good time to roll.  I have abandoned hope of 00085.

I honestly do not know if we will see 0.00085 or not. What I do know is that I would not want to get caught short XMR in this market. This can get really ugly really fast.

I think some of the downtrend is caused by people selling in order the buy back lower (IIRC, you also stated this before). If we get a clear uptrend we could shoot up fast due to people that have to buy back that were hoping to buy back lower.

You are right in this.
However the uptrend is possible only by 2 ways:

1) Much lower emission than the current (takes 1-2 years from now)
2) Drastic increase in adoption
3) Increased Investors

Who wants to add #4?

EtherEx on Ethereum could rapidly make Cryptsy and other crypto-crypto exchanges obsolete.

Could being the big word here. It will not allow real time trading. They say this is an advantage since it won't have HFT. I sympathize with that point of view somewhat, but so far almost every market (both crypto and non-crypto) has preferred real time exchanges.

Overstock's Medici on Counterparty would be pretty big.

Do they have a target date for actually trading? I'm not sure it is realistic to see this fly in 2015, given the regulatory speed limit. Maybe, but look how the Bitcoin ETFs have gotten bogged down.

They have incorporated recently, and things seem to be on track.

From reading excerpts -  Q3 2014 Overstock.com, Inc. Earnings Conference Call provided by Thomson Reuters the timeline is generally aimed at months, rather than years. They have a framework in place- established guidelines to follow, Perkins Coei is working in background (and have already done legwork on drawing up the now active CounterParty foundation) , afaik focus is on CFTC now . Resistance may well be less than with the ETF.
