Speaking of which @Jwintern, did you ever get the node running on that Orange?

Nah, but there are builds for raspberry pi so I think it should certainly be possible to keep up to date with a little arm chip at this point.

I have a xmr pi node running now. Used this guide - http://pinode.co.uk/
Did it on an sd card which apparently have about a year life span with the constant read/write. Wish I would have known that from the start.

I want to say it took a little over a week to sync but it stays up to date just fine. There's a few scenarios where I may use it as a remote node but was really just a tinker project.

Doomed to see the future and unable to prevent it

Upcoming Bulletproof update should definitely make some excitement. Many will say it is already priced in, but i cant be really. There will be publicity about it and that publicity will be exactly about what is best in Monero.

This was exactly what I was discussing in another channel. A lot of people come and talk about better privacy coins and start comparing stuff to Monero, then they realize actually Monero is in constant development and catching up very quickly in some of the tech,,, just that they were not aware about it until they learnt. Monero has this thing that it makes headlines very well without marketing, because the adopters are happy to share.

And definitely,,, none of this is priced in until the spikes happen!

That, or it's already priced in cos there are no spikes happening...  Think about it.  Bulletproofs is already public knowledge.

It may be public knowledge but the major impact this upgrade will have is probably hard to quantify until put into practice.
People need to experience bulletproofs and talk about it to fully understand. Honestly, I fall into this category.

Don't get me wrong, I go back and forth on this. It may not even be a blip on the radar come Oct. 18th.

We had  quite a long discusion on it when it was bring pushed to be included before proper vetting and that is probally why we have not been discusing it as much right now.

It is a HUGE improvement and should effect the entire Eco system as nodes can be run in many more locations now. Synch times with such a large chain have been an issue for alot of people and although I havn;t tried it on a rasberry , I doun't doubt it can be a hair pulling experience on a poor connection.

Crypto markets are disconnected from reality. We were separated from btc for a short time until the massive bubble and now I think we just got re-lumped in with all the new blood not knowing whats what and the institutional not caring whats what.

Thx, replied in the main thread.

https://monerobase.com/article/monero_devmeeting_2018-10-07

Highlights:.
Lots of code merges this week in preparation for the v0.13.0 release.
-Binaries are expected to become available throughout this week.  CLI will likely be first, GUI after that.
-TheCharlatan will announce/advise the availability of the reproducible builds
Should this fail, code/binaries will be release similar to that in the past, and reproducible builds will be targeted for v0.13.1
-The translations team still have a few files to work with before release.

Future builds/versions
-The build team is looking to provide v0.14.x in January 2019 - well ahead of the next protocol upgrade.
-A month+ of testing, and then a final release in February.
-The goal is to migrate to a less hectic schedule - less cramming features in so close to release.
-A good example of that goal is how Bulletproofs were handled.  They were originally scheduled for earlier in 2018, but were pushed out due to auditing the code, and that procedure worked very well.

The v0.13.x GUI release may also see the inclusion of a guide/documentation: https://github.com/monero-ecosystem/monero-GUI-guide/releases/tag/1.4
-There is ongoing discussion about how to properly package it.
-PDF's are great for documentation but can be an attack vector.
-The team is looking into alternative options.

Ledger support for Macs in v0.13.x has not received enough testing.  cslashm, one of the devs working on Ledger integration does not have access to a Mac.
-As such, there may be a bug regarding pressing buttons too fast or too slow.

Next meeting is October 14th - 17:00 UTC

Shout out to Monero at Zerohedge" (One of the big fakenews sites)

"However, while many governments have begun capitalizing on this very convenient affordance by building systems that compile transaction data and scraped private info into a single database, most have only just begun moving in this direction. And more importantly, there are a number of privacy coins – Monero being the most prominent  – that don't offer a public record linking transactions to wallets, while there are also mixing tools for making the transactions of non-privacy coins private. As such, there are still ways to remain anonymous in crypto for those who want to keep a low profile, despite the best efforts of governments in the US, Russia, Japan, and elsewhere"

I believe in this coin I think this Monero has a great future. It seems to me that anonymous coins are becoming very popular. This is a good chance for the development of this project, because anonymous coins will be very popular soon.
I share the same opinion with you. anonymous coins need to be popular. I'm thinking of buying Monero by the end of the year. zcash, I got some. now I'm going to buy Monero. Smiley

I wouldn't expect anything... markets don't really care for technical stuff hype wise ... technical stuff rather imbeds itself long-term little by little into the price.
