35 hours+ with PC mining i5 CPU @ 400 - 600 PPS (no block for 35+ hours)

hm.. I'd be happy to even see a return on my hardware/resources,
but it doesn't look like that will be happening anytime soon.
It's not just you. I have friends I convinced to try this coin and they are getting blocks and I have been mining it for over 24 hours on 5 machines with about a 2800 combined rate and not one block yet.

Wow. I must be really lucky.

PPS has nothing to do with the fucking rate of paying primes you find, it has been said over and over again not to trust it or use it as a bench marking tool && pick a client stay with it and count how many paying primes you find in a week then dribble about client + HW = avg rate of paying primes - factored in variable loss otherwise don't even waste your energy trying && forget what you know about other coin algos and stop comparing it to others && stop setting rpcuser and passwords for a fucking built in miner client &&  use the fucking search feature for the forum before asking your lazy questions filling up a dev thread with junk so people that are busy have no way of surfing it all to get the valuable info && understand its pretty much a WIP, "research" is the quote && learn to build your own windows clients its interesting and would make a great thread && go and try to get the bfgminer going its much more productive then trying to figure out why you sometimes get paying primes and sometimes not after not even a week of a brand new unfinished coin && ITS NOT FUCKING HASHING!!! && stop worrying about fucking bonnets and gpu farms its pointless you just look like a misinformed tool not to mention un original, if the diff goes up and the paying primes are slow then the value should go up...if it dosn't then fuck off and find something else to do to make money....play kenny rogers the gambler and learn something && if your client is following the blockchain and it lines up with the fucking block explorer and you can see cpu action for the client then you're priming and you will eventually get a payout...

hard read, but agreed

Parse error Huh

Try again, if you feel like being read, but this time with paragraphs, without calling us names, and without the hate. Thank you.

The problem is that the market price will probably be biased lower at some point, due to many "smart kids" hijacking resources they have access to, but are not paying for, and they will be dumping their CPU-farmed coins at zero cost en masse... Sad

Hopefully, they will be taunted soon enough by their parents / boss / university management when they get the electricity bill, or when all IT room users complain about how slow the computers are, or simply why it is so hot in the room in spite of air conditioning...

But then come the botnets... and we're pretty much doomed until we shift to GPU mining

^ This.

Anyone who thinks CPU mining "levels the playing field" is deluding themselves.

I've added primecoin to my charts website:

http://cryptometer.org/primecoin_96_hour_charts.html

Interesting chart. But the logarithmic Y scale is misleading. block/hour rate on averate (100) overshoots target (60) by 66% ! But on the plot it looks much smaller.

It seems the prices on exchanges will skyrocket eventually as even higher pps rates does not yield that much of blocks.

35 hours+ with PC mining i5 CPU @ 400 - 600 PPS (no block for 35+ hours)

4 Linux servers (AVG PPS BELOW)
10 cores at 2500 PPS - NO BLOCK
1 CPU @ 500 PPS - NO BLOCK
1 CPU @ 700 PPS - NO BLOCK
12 CORE CPU @ 1500 - 2500 PPS NO BLOCK.

I think the PPS number is partly an illusion. I suggest the official 0.1.1 client. I use it to find a block in about 12 hours but nothing with the optimized ones (except early version of 0710 and first release from Zalfrin).
I also suggest you restart your client once a few hours. I just wasted about 6 hours a few hours ago because it was mining on the wrong chain -- found out after I restarted one client and it started redownloading blockchain from 6 hours before.

How do you increase the number of connections? any nodes to be added? I have only 8 connections at the moment.
Add these lines to your primecoin.conf file:
Code:
dns=1
addnode=primecoin.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins0.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins1.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins2.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins3.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins4.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins5.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins6.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins7.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins8.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins9.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins10.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins11.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins12.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins13.cloudapp.net
addnode=primecoins14.cloudapp.net

Also you have to open TCP port 9911. Check it.

Yeah it's harder to mine now for sure, i wouldn't convince so many people. Then again some people have over 100,000 pps each so doesn't really matter. The easy coins for the average miner are gone. Just leave your pcs running and forget about it and check in a weeks time, maybe a few blocks by then.

This is one of the only new alt-coins that actually has a value IMHO, I wouldn't like to see it dead because of a massive sell-off from some botnet operators or the like... I'm a little bit worried since it has already made its way to Vircurex, Cryptsy and MCXNow. Back in the pre-cryptocoin days, I had given more than $300 worth of electricity / CPU power for the GIMPS project, and there was no reward for it (unless you "won the lottery" by finding a new highest Mersenne prime).

The scientific value of PrimeCoin is not as much, but still, it has one.

You're wrong. I get 8 blocks today using only 4 pc

If that happens everyday then i'm wrong. You may not get a block for 24 hours or more now. At the start you could expect a block every few hours from each pc. The diff has gone up right?? I see a lot of people with 3000pps saying nothing for hours or days.

I'm not a gpu farmer but I think its better to have people that invested in crypto reap the benefit than botnet owners. I like cpu mining but once a coin becomes big botnets step in. So i see gpu mining as good progression.

Is it really possible that somebody has it's cores maxed to 100% and not noticing he has a bot? Bot-nets are dangerous for stealing passwords, but will they be dangerous for mass-mining?

Yes, some botnets mine in the shadows of masses like litecoin. A large increase there is not noticed like on smaller coins. Plus the botnets are used for DDOSing the exchanges. So they are very harmful to the crypto community.

Saying "the botnets" are used for DDoSing the exchanges is ignorant. I personally know a botnet owner who would never DDoS anything.
Fixed.

No, I am not said botnet owner.

Disproving someone with the argument "I know someone that wouldn't" is unfortunately also pretty weak.

He's said to me that he wouldn't, that it's petty and pointless, so I'm fairly sure he wouldn't. Also, his words imply that EVERY botnet is used for DDoSing, which is ridiculous. I'm just pointing out that I know of one that isn't.

Every botnet involves illegal usage of others' property. Is it much of a stretch to suggest that most of those people running/using botnets would have no qualms in pursuing other illegal activity?

Oh, I wouldn't say that botnet owners would be against it based on any moral basis.
