The announcement was never posted on the web wallet my coins are really not recoverable? wtf....

The best thing to do is move on and start again. When you fall off the horse just get back on.

^ It is completely ridiculous that this is the message the devs are giving us.

you didn't own your coins, and we aren't responsible for anything we don't host. we announced 5 weeks ago we were going to end support for it, since the host wasn't ours and was donated.

Yes but you are responsible for managing the web wallet!!!!!! Annouced 5 weeks ago on channels that many people will not have seen given how many people have asked in the last 3 days...... maybe a message on the web wallet itself would have been a good idea? Or maybe a few weeks after the "closure" of the web wallet to withdraw but not deposit might have a good idea? This whole issue has been handled very exteremly badly and the fall out is now being handled very shadily too.

Also, the devs can help us but are choosing not to: https://www.reddit.com/r/vergecurrency/comments/6oayae/web_wallet_problem/dkgs6oq/

I wonder why.....?

that server where it was no longer exists. so you are wrong at this point, no one can help you. we made the announcement it was going offline 5 WEEKS AGO. this discussion is now over.

WHY WOULDN'T YOU PUT IT IN BOLD RED LETTERS ON THE VERGE WEB WALLET?!?

BECAUSE WE WERE NOT ABLE TO ACCESS THE SITE TO MAKE CHANGES TO THE HTML

No wonder this coin will never be worth even a penny

i guess that 16.5 billion just dwindled down quite a bit.  good thing i chose tor webwallet from the beginning.  i knew having a webwallet on clearnet would not be a good option for long term.  easily hacked, etc.  guess i lucked out by a hair

you really shouldnt store coins on any service that you dont actually own them. i would suggest keeping your coins on an android, core, or electrum wallet.

So, just to be safe guys, what's the best wallet to download for long-term holding? Don't want to wake up one day and my precious XVG is gone. Also, any links to literature where I can learn more about XVG and all it's uses, and any other related stuff. Still quite new to all of this.

Having the same question.

hands down, the paper wallet https://github.com/vergecurrency/VERGE/files/1167888/paperwallet.zip

Nice job, congratulations.

Why doesn't the web wallet work anymore?
The server was donated and no longer active. No funds are recoverable (see previous posts). The announcement was over a month ago.

Seriously?!?!?!

So xvg has a transparent ledger that obfuscates IP addresses?  What's the advantage to that over using Bitcoin via tor?

Many times I see this question.
Dev, can you pls explain the tech difference behind it?

Thx a lot.

bitcoin only has the option of using tor, and with their core wallet. we have an advantage over that, by having multiple private resources over tor AND i2P, including electrum clients, and soon, an android wallet that ONLY operates on tor. it's already been beta tested by 10 community members twice and works perfectly. (and following is an i2P only mobile wallet) also, our mining situation is far superior to bitcoin, as our blockchain isnt controlled by bitmain, since it's multi algorithm XD

At least your post isn't being removed.

Oh, my post was deleted.... i just repostd because this needs to be addressed.

This is reality. This is how it is. There is no changing it now. Asking the same question over and over in different ways hoping for a different result will do nothing, because that's not how reality works either. The best thing to do is move on and start again. When you fall off the horse just get back on.

The reality is that posts about coin recovery is being deleted moderated, a few people have posted about this issue, how little notice was given before wallet removal, no ability to recover our coins, how dismissive the team is about this whole issue.... seems very very shady to me.

this is the same reason we told someone in our telegram they can not host a wallet bot in the chat, because we can't be responsible for it if something happens and it goes offline or is hacked.

since we own the hosting to the i2p/tor web wallets will keep them online, but our plan was to eliminate all clearnet resources anyway, as we had announced early last month.
