any chance the supply will get a cut in the future, i think what is holding back this wonderful coin, is the immense supply, if it can be reduced to million instead of billion would be better imho, i know it require a hard fork but its worth the risk
This gets brought up a lot but I think we need to realize that the crypto market is still VERY young and small ($100B) and while million cap coins make sense for what the market is handling right now (most coins <$1B cap) in order to scale with a growing market cap and still have ability for microtransactions, billion cap coins will be the new norm (especially if you look at how quickly crypto can and most likely will grow in the coming year). lets get smart contracts into Verge and we can build apps and other coins using XVG which will end up growing Verge even larger and faster than just people buying and using it as simply a currency.
IMO, divisibility always needs to be considered. It is divisibility that makes a currency not need to have a huge supply.
Oh definitely. I wouldn't be in crypto if I didn't believe that, and I will concede the billion cap coins are difficult to wrap our heads around when if we were to take a single increment (satoshi) and set it to a dollar (for comparison sake of course, as the values float against each other and a dollar by no means should be a peg) we would effectively have a bitcoin market cap of about 2.1 quadrillion, which seems insane, but in reality the global derivatives markets have been valued as high as $1.2 quadrillion, in addition to the M2 supplies, public and private debt, we're looking at numbers I cannot even put my finger on, and this is still with entire economies in their youths, entire markets yet to emerge, and we're still on earth lol.
Yea this is definitely an interesting topic, and always makes me think of the experiment where they see how much the death star would have actually cost to run...
https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/fortune/2016/12/03/death-star-operating-costs/%3Fsource%3Ddam...I'm going to stand by the billion cap coin (though this is my ONLY investment into a cap this high) we will eventually see an easy to use comparison using whole denominations of verge while still allowing micro transactions to take place. Should be a fun ride.
