Not Your Keys, Not Your Bitcoin
I never heard such news that Telegram develop a coin

They made an announcement thread on this forum[1], however, it is no longer active as it once was, it appears that they abandoned it now since they have their own governance forum.
It's good to see an exchange on Telegram because the project idea came as a Telegram fork, but I also believe it's the incorrect platform to develop an exchange that has to do with money. Telegram is one of the most popular platforms for fraudsters, not only in cryptocurrency, anybody can construct a similar bot and alter the username by just a letter, and anyone may become a victim. To some extent, I enjoy that they did not seek KYC, but it is a NO for me. DIscord would have been a better option.

This is a good addition on telegram but I'm worried about that there will be more victims that will be taken advantage by the scammers. Since it's a den of scammers.
There could be tricks developed by them that shall make it easy for them to scam newbies and people who are not aware of it. Otherwise, next innovation would be wallets will also be available in messenger apps.

Maybe, this is only for convenience purposes for the users.
But if you are dealing with large amount of money, better use CEX or DEX.
We don't know what kind of support also is the telegram giving to its crypto users.
So for now, I guess, this will serve for small transactions and convenience.

With most exchanges having their own app these days, I don't think there's a huge difference of convenience between them in terms of buying bitcoin.

We know most of the groups of people out there are scammers which is why it is not good if you can only find it by searching it and maybe they are more people who will use the same name. Why they don't just add it under the menu or under settings instead to make it look more secure than searching it.

Since this is a bot by a third party team, it's not a readily available option for them. But yeahhh, scammers are most likely cloning the bot now and people will once again miss the blue checkmark.

For anyone interested, you can start using this functionality by adding this bot[1].

Isn't ton foundation owned by Telegram though? It would've been much better if they added this whole thing directly to Telegram, instead of just making a bot for it since there are already many of them out there.

I like the bot implementation very much. It is a new but different way on how to interact with cryptocoins. It also makes the Telegram app stick more to it being a messaging app instead of turning it into a cryptocoin wallet app. Also, it makes the app stay to the purpose that coins held in Telegram are for sending and receiving not for holding.

@BitMaxz. It was big news 3 years ago where the SEC blocked them and declared they were issuing illegal securities. However, a group of developers forked the project and made it opensource. The SEC are left shaking their heads hehehe.

I never heard such news that Telegram develop a coin but it's a big help because more people know about Crypto and I thought that the bot under t.me/wallet is a bot from other cryptos I almost have lots of spam on telegram and I thought that the wallet bot is one of them.

If we have to KYC anyway, we might as well go to an actual exchange which offers more. Another thing, isn't telegram still relying on SMS 2fa? which makes it bad for anything beyond small amounts given how insecure it is.
When we're talking about financial matters on Telegram, I'm always doubtful about it since as I know, this platform was most likely a house of scammers who couldn't give any trust.  So, I didn't convince to use this service because there are a lot of scams that happened on Telegram and now how can we verify the legitimacy of the app.

At least, the topic above becomes an afterthought for me personally, about the bad dealing with crypto in the telegram application channel.
I tend to agree which is better if you will direct on the exchange either DEX or CEX.

I don't believe in any form, wallet app, via telegram app, what else to send Bitcoin/crypto and buy it via telegram group app and so on.

At least, experience and words: @dasunlanka, can be a warning for me forever about the telegram application.
As he said.

03 Fake Mobile Wallets and Apps

Some people will introduce new mobile wallets/decentralize exchanges mobile apps and Mining wallets for store your Funds. Please don't use those wallets they will track your private keys and can be steel your funds.

For that at least, I save dozens of bad experiences that members have had in this forum about applications and orders on telegram.
Example:

You could ONLY send and receive TONCOIN on the app. And you could also buy bitcoin on the app through the "wallet" section on there. Users now could send and receive toncoin and could also buy bitcoin on the app. Another breakthrough in the slow but gradual process of bitcoin adoption worldwide.
It's the first time I hear about this service, in fact I haven't used Telegram in a while, so maybe I will reinstall it later and try it.
Has any of you actually tried it? Any advice you can give me? Is it just a wallet or a service that enables you to buy bitcoins? Is it sent to your address directly? how to pay?

Along with the announcement, TON twitter profile posted a video showcasing how you can send TON directly to a Telegram user[1] using the @wallet[2] bot. You can also buy BTC by means of a bank card. The bot can be found on the ton.apps website[3] and while I can't find any information (or code?) of whoever "made" the bot, it says that it was "Verified by the TON team" - highest level of verification - which means, according to their FAQ page[4], that the app was supported by the official TON Telegram channel.

I found this[5] video on Youtube (in Spanish) that allowed me to have a glimpse of how the wallet works and it seems like that the payment gateway that they use (for now) is Neocrypto[6] which also means that this will eventually lead you to KYC/AML procedures as the service implements them[7]. They aren't clear on the fees that they use

So, to answer your question @hugeblack - whenever you buy BTC/TON the wallet bot already gives you an address to where the crypto will go. After purchasing them (and having received them on the address provided by the bot) you can withdraw them to an address of yours (I'm assuming this information since there is an option within the bot that says "Withdraw").

I had tried it and it's quite easy to use. I haven't actually used it to buy bitcoin or toncoin yet. But I have set up my wallet on there. You have to share your phone number for you to get set up. You would be given a wallet on there where you could store your btc and toncoin. You could also buy btc and toncoin with your credit cards. You also could share and exchange toncoin with anyone using the app while you can only buy btc.
A wallet is created for you after verifying your phone number

I didn't know that they have this bot in Telegram. At least there's an official bot for this. I did check and it has a blue check on the right of the username that makes it safe to do transactions with it. Cheques and my wallet are interesting and being able to tag with @wallet just make it easier to transfer etc.

For those interested in its news with the wallet, you can go here. https://t.me/wallet_news_en

For anyone interested, you can start using this functionality by adding this bot[1].

Isn't ton foundation owned by Telegram though? It would've been much better if they added this whole thing directly to Telegram, instead of just making a bot for it since there are already many of them out there.

You're right, TON is developed by telegram. -snip-
Just a small correction - TON was initially developed by Telegram[1] but around the launch of the IPO the SEC halted the event[2] due to, quoting, " We allege that the defendants have failed to provide investors with information regarding Grams and Telegram’s business operations, financial condition, risk factors, and management that the securities laws require.. Bear in mind that Telegram had amassed  $1.7 billion of investor funds in the pre-sale stage.

Fast forward a few months and Telegram agrees to a settlement with SEC, paying $18.5 million as a penalty[3]. Shortly after Telegram abandons their TON Blockchain platform[4][5] (probably a clause in the settlement). However, before abandoning it, the company made the project open source in GitHub[6] which would eventually be picked up by the community[7] who now lead the development of the system.

You're right, TON is developed by telegram. The long awaited blockchain project that subject to issue with SEC before. They just recently introduced there mainnet maybe they will integrate the wallet soon on the next version of telegram app. The bot seems fine coz most of the transaction in telegram is through bot if you are a regular telegram user. You can pin message so that you can't messed up the legit bot to scam.
