Some people who use cryptocurrency must already know Lightning Network. Tipping is a very interesting application, its use on social media is also very good especially as a crypto promotion to everyone. However, LN itself is still in beta mode and everyone is still waiting for this network to be perfected.

This is also an initiative and I will try to apply it to see how well it works and the Lightning Network. I really like to experience new things, it helps me have more business ideas.

Oh really so meaning that the celebrity could now get another extra income from the tip being made from its fans. I just hope that I will become a celebrity one day so that I could also ask for more tip from my fans. This is not really impossible since bitcoin is already integrated with twitter. Meaning there will be demand coming from the people to tip someone else with their twitter post.

When “liking” your favorite tweet isn’t enough, you can now send small bitcoin transactions.

Announced Saturday, the beta app Tippin has released a new Chrome Extension available to Google browser users. Over Twitter, app users can send bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network, considered a way to make bitcoin transactions feasible at a large scale for the first time.

Nice feature for sending small tips to good tweets and hope we will be able to use this system without any extension. I didn't download it from chrome web store but i am interested and have a question. Is QR code implemented to system for  sending payments with phone?

I have the same doubt.
I dont want to be using chrome extensions and up until now I dont have one as it could also be the way for hackers to have a hole into going into your account.
There should be another way and not just like this.
It is Twitter and it is a big company. Perhaps, they could find a way for another option.
It is a good start but they must go for the better ones.
I do think there are other people here who find it unsecured and not just me.
I share the same concerns with you. Actually I've already been a target of keyloger from Chrome extension in the past. It was Hola VPN, someone hacked them, put keyloger to "update" of Hola and when I entered my ETH private key to MEW, hacker received my private key and stole my coins. I know it's partly my fault because I used unrecommended method of accessing ETH wallet, but anyway, it proved that extensions are risky. If I need to copy-paste private key to Chrome, I always open Incognito window in Chrome with all extensions disabled by default.

There's something that makes me think that, sooner or later, some scammers will find a way to abuse this system and get some tips that they don't deserve.Anyway,it's a great idea.Perhaps some charity or crowdfunding projects might utilize Twitter and Telegram to ask for small crypto donations and funding.

ChangeTip could not show a profit doing this, but they used their own internal database to manage the payments, so it will be interesting to see if this tipping service would be more successful with the help of the Lightning Network.  Grin  I actually miss ChangeTip, because I used it as a tool to increase Bitcoin adoption.   Grin

I am just glad that people are seeing the potential for cheap micro payments with the Lightning Network now.  Wink

About time, I swear we had something like this in crypto a few years ago but maybe it was not on BTC but other blockchains.   I definitely used some on reddit however it wasnt perfectly decentralised and eventually some lost due to that flaw.    This sounds superior not a shortcut but requires mass use for a proper test really
Wasn't RDD designed just for this purpose on Redd?  And I do recall people tipping with DOGE a year or two ago when I last visited the doge subreddit.

Certainly tipping for good posts isn't a new idea, and while part of me is throwing a victory fist in the air, a bigger part is wondering whether tipping will ever be a big deal.  There's been discussion about it being implemented on this forum, but it never sounded like a popular idea--and that was before the merit system.  Anyway, good to see something like this for Twitter.

It's always great to see cryptocurrencies interacting with social media because this is one of the largest industries on the internet right now and it encourages new people to adopt crypto in a friendly way. It seems like the bitcoin is slowly developing and new features are created every time to make things easier by using cryptocurrencies. Even tough now that many people on Twitter use this app right now it's good to see it existing and waiting for popular people and celebrities to adopt it.

It seems that it is a third party application and is not an official development from Twitter. The Tippin platform can help you to share small amounts of bitcoin, I know this service has been around for a long time but until now there has been no significant development. I prefer to use a samurai wallet to share small amounts of bitcoin.
Did you try to use the new feature?
Now, positive news are coming in for us and people who have been blinding looking at the market shouldn't ignore this kind of news. Does anyone thinks here that Jack Dorsey created the impact for this tipping feature after tweeting he only has bitcoin? Although as the article says, tippin has been there since 2016.

It seems that some improvements to the cryptocurrency service are increasingly developing, I'm very happy to hear these changes, such as Hard wallets on smartphones, exchanges that only use P2P (without email, password, or profile), and now anyone can send bitcoin with use LN on Twitter. With the presence of some of these findings, I think this is enough to correct the shortcomings that have occurred in various transactions that have happened before.

This is personal
I think that is move in right direction. Microtransactions over Lightning Network are pretty cheap and fast, scallability is not an issue and that could bring more adoption into crypto.
Whole technology is in early stages, but for massive adoption we need Twitter with that option without web browser addon, otherwise most peoples will never notice that option.

I wish I could see such ideas in this forum, and it might happen someday.

Totally agree with you.

“Tippin started as a personal side project a couple of months ago, so I could understand lightning network a bit more, and of course help push adoption, but it’s starting to get big,” Abril said.
I really liked the idea, and this particular text, good ideas start with simple questions and then a lot of things are done.

Such an application will be a catalyst for further acceptance and experimentation on the lightning network, as well as motivating more people to participate effectively in this forum.

I wish I could see such ideas in this forum, and it might happen someday.

what is the maximum for the number of transfers? I don't even know that yet. at least there are new facilities on twitter in terms of bitcoin transactions. although it has not developed rapidly, I hope to be a pioneer for others

First of all this is a great way to get more branding for lightning network and it reaches to many people who use twitter and get more awareness for how awesome it could be but totally useless, there is no "rush" for the tip and could be sent in an hour if you want to and would still be fine so using it to tip tweets doesn't really sound like its a must.

We do need it for trading and basically any transaction we need to send or receive money instead of something we just "feel like doing", we should focus on withdrawals from exchanges for example which takes a ton of money from us but use tiny amounts instead so exchanges make ton of profit from getting withdrawal fee from us and with lightening network we can prevent that. It is a decent system to show what LN could be but we need something bigger than this for it.

Is there any official statement coming from Jack Dorsey about this service? I haven't seen any news that they officially allowed such app to monetize Twitter. If this gets popular all the Influencers in Twitter would take advantage of this and they would easily earn money just by literally posting Tweets or pics, if that happens I don't think Twitter would be happy that they won't be getting any piece of the pie. I know Dorsey is a big supporter for Bitcoin but I don't see him agreeing on this kind of monetization program in his website.
