After reading all these responses, we have a real use case problem for Bitcoin. No one is giving me a really good compelling reason to get someone like my mom or my wife to convert money into Bitcoin, and then start using that for purchases or for sending people gifts etc.
The average person is too busy to care about their personal freedom, or about bank corruption, or about total ownership, or about slightly lower fees, or about the speed at which money is transferred from point a to point B (which I think is overstated, because I recently had to transfer a big chunk of money as a down payment on my house and it got to my lawyer same day with a $20 fee. Big deal, he didn't need it in seconds.)
I think there is a clear lack of vision in the Bitcoin community. Technology is amazing, but we still need that killer use case that gets the mainstream to do something more complicated and a little scary.

In fact, we need ''big merchants'' to accept bitcoin as payment option.
This will help bitcoin to become mainstream, many more people will start using bitcoin, and this will help bitcoin to become more stable and to spread to all corners of the world.
So, we need first dedicated members of bitcoin community, who will take time and effort to explain advantages of bitcoin to average people and merchants around us.
This step is the most difficult.
. Or maybe bitcoin will be uncool when it becomes worthless (which I'm hoping it wont, obviously).
