Little bit off-topic: The risk I see with ATMs and ZipZap selling bitcoin on a paper receipt is that over time people will lose those paper receipts and thereby losing their coins, which will be deflationary to the bitcoin economy.

The paper receipt is only temporary to hand to the zipzap store agent with the cash, your bitcoin goes to your wallet.

I actually saw that presentation, and also got the impression the guy didn't realize the massive implications for BTC. I checked out website and found 8 locations within a mile of my house. I doubt there will be a stampede to buy BTC simply because Jo Bloggs still hasn't heard of it yet, but nevertheless it's all moving in right direction towards mainstream (lottery ticket) territory.

If people can't be trusted with a receipt then there's no hope for them.

There's a load of locations near me, but you have to order through Bittylicious first so you may as well just go directly through them.

A spokes person of ZipZap announced last Saturday on the Bitcoin Expo in London that ZipZap is adding bitcoin to their business model. That means that from the second week of January 2014 there will be 25k small shops in UK that will hand out Bitcoin for Cash and 240k locations in Russia. Basically every small shop that is selling lottery tickets or doing money exchange will give out Bitcoins automatically because they are already connected with ZipZap.
He mentioned that briefly in the Q&A and didn't seem to realize that this is big news for the bitcoin community. I approached him later to make sure there was no misunderstanding and he confirmed it again.
I think that is a very important and big step towards mainstream acceptance and this news should spread. I dont understand why ZipZap doesn't announce that officially.

so has anyone tried this yet?

Oh I didn't realise it was already live.  I'll attempt it tomorrow, I'm struggling to find any info about it though.  25k UK locations but no UK website apparently.

Looking at www.zipzapinc.com I'm struggling to find any information on it at all and I'm unable to search for locations in the UK.

Pretty sure it's not live. I'm sure there'll be loads of threads on here about it when it goes live though.

How will it be deflationary? And if they're that forgetful then they'll probably lose their paper money and other things. Just redeem the Bitcoins to your wallet as soon as you get the receipt. I think it's just gonna be like topping up your phone.

This is old news but it's now the second week of January (as in OP), so is this available yet? Has anyone tried it?

Great news for the UK where getting bitcoins can only really be done through localbitcoins/bitbargain from private individuals, which is expensive and inconvenient.

Just the last 4  announcements from Overstock.com to Zynga, the 50,000 porn sites, now thiS! Means $40,000 per BTC is in view. Like it's a real and present possibility now.

Now we just need one country to fully legalize it.

It's already legal pretty much everywhere so doesn't need to be legalised.

You right... but I'm afraid China doesn't know Overstock.com, Zynga, porn sites accepting BTC, Newegg... that's why it's not $40,000 yet...

When is this Zipzap being rolled out? I'm wondering how much of a markup they'll charge?

...
EasyCoin echos Neo's core principles of transparency and ease of use through its clear fee structure and simple site navigation. The fee for topping up your account is 3.99% of the total money given to the ZipZap agent plus a small convenience fee payable in store. EasyCoin charges no further fees when converting the top up into either Bitcoin or Litecoin.
