The halvening most likely will happen within the next ~12 to ~16 hours depending on network luck.
I don't think anything surprising will happen once the 420kth block is found because everything that will change has been anticipated for months in advance and has been known about for years in advance. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that the total block reward will decrease by ~49%.
With that being said, the halvening should still be fun for Bitcoin enthusiasts everywhere, and is something that I will almost certainly watch.

Hey! This bitcoin block confirmation thing is probabilistic. There is no guarantee on the time it will take for the next 101 blocks. That 16h,49m,49s figure is not set in stone. It could happen within the hour (okay it probably wont but it could!) I'm not going to chance it; I'm staying up all night just in case
I agree, however it says 14 hrs right now, so I am not going to stay up all night. This will likely happen tomorrow morning or early afternoon, my time. Not going to argue about it, it's just maths/chance... Who knows? I don' really care like you do I guess?

There is really nothing too exciting with this years halving. Price will not go up. So the 1996 Olympics was the same as the 2008 Olympics was it ? I'm pretty sure they are historical events just like how the BTC reward at one stage "Long Ago" was 50BTC then 4 years later it halved to 25BTC which was "Long Ago" now we are hitting the 12.5BTC halving, imagine when Bitcoin in 30 years time has a very low reward & people are fascinated by the amount of bitcoins that you could mine/generate compared to the future day they live in ? A bit like how we all envy the early adopters now as to the people in the Future with 1.78571428BTC Rewards per block will be all up in envy about us 12.5BTC reward blockers.
