Or bitstamp if you're not american. Bitstamp is very reliable IMO. Needs verification though.
If you want to be sure you don't get scammed, you buy the bitcoin with cash, face to face with the seller. You hand the cash over when the transaction is confirmed.

You can find some bitcoin trades here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0, but you need to be careful with scams. Wink
