I am still not sure about that 80/20 but you seem like a nice and fair guy, so I just bought 1 ticket, let's get this started Smiley (I could not be bothered to sign it btw :p)

I am a nice and fair guy. Read the rules or the questions part. Specifically the last three questions. (It's a joke or a spoof, but sometimes it needs to be said.)

No need to sign if you don't intend to have the winnings sent to another address. I just send it to whatever address you used to buy the ticket.

Have you tried Coin Control?

Is that a joke?  I spent months merging it to git master over and over trying to get it into bitcoin-qt and eventually gave up.  So yeah, I've tried it.  Wink

Excellent. For Dabs Lotto Number 3, I will consider using only 2 secrets. That way, the results can be computed faster without waiting for the other secrets which can take up to 2 days to be revealed.

Sorry, I didn't realize about your coin control adventures. I think Armory has coin control too (but they don't work with compressed keys yet.)

I just looked at it. It seems to keep only the most recent 24 hours worth of secrets

See the first button in the top left, "get timepoint secret"?  That will give you any (revealed) secret you like.

I wonder what year he "started" the secret or maybe it was 2000 years into the future.

One question: what's the time of the first (or should I say: last) secret?

The secrets go for a bit more than 200 years.

Have you tried Coin Control?

Ok. 3 tickets in. 0.03 jackpot. 80% goes to the winner (if no one violently objects, because there are still people that can't read even if it's already posted in the rules.)

Re. using other games' secrets, https://lbaat.net/ seems ideal for this.  They publish one secret every hour, and each one is the hash of the next one.

I just looked at it. It seems to keep only the most recent 24 hours worth of secrets, although I think I can calculate into the past if needed. I wonder what year he "started" the secret or maybe it was 2000 years into the future.

I would update the rules to have the deadline about 1 hour before the next secret is revealed. Or even up the last minute. But block times aren't accurate, so 1 hour is a better hedge maybe.

*edit* I can enter any time point in the present or the past and click the button to get the secret.

I don't think so. Everyone would know who won. As long as the winning ticket wasn't one that was submitted AFTER the deadline (and thus can know the secret after it was revealed). After all, the game is provably fair. So even I can join. But maybe that's not a good idea since I'm the operator.

Besides, you're not getting the secret until at least 60 days later. So there's no way for anyone to cheat. And since TradeFortress has another secret, there's no way for the operator to cheat. And since we're not revealing the secrets until after Wednesday, there's no way for anyone to cheat.

Anyone who plays, is subject to the same rules (unless amended.)

Go play. hehe. There's no way for me or anyone else to know if it was really you.

Re. using other games' secrets, https://lbaat.net/ seems ideal for this.  They publish one secret every hour, and each one is the hash of the next one.  The site's owner obviously has access to all the secrets, but that's always going to be the case.  If you still keep your own secret as well, that should be enough secrets to satisfy everyone.

Also, I'm just curious, but would it be considered a conflict of interest if I played in your lottery as well as manning your dead-mans switch?

Was out over the weekend. Any reactions to having an early bird discount for the next game? Like 1 bonus ticket for every 2? Only for the early buyers.

I won't be doing this for every new ticket, but since yours was the first, you get special mention.

With your example:
0.8 goes to the winner. The next game starts with 0.2 already, so if you play again, even with 0.01, and no one else plays, you get 20 times what you put in.

Of course, with that kind of system, everyone will want to join in. So your odds of winning diminishes as new tickets are put in the system. The jackpot eventually gets bigger faster. At least that was my intention.

Maybe people can post here what they prefer, if 80/20 is fine, or should I start with 90/10?

Also, if in case I get hit by a train, I am authorizing my backup (dead man's switch) handlers to include the entire amount (100%), since there will be no next game. Asking for a 20% donation to my funeral is a bit too much I think, not that I care.

Sounds all great and fair. Only that 80% / 20% deal makes the first game have terrible odds (unless I as a player decide to play the next one too.) I think it's obvious, but small example: if I bet 0.5, someone else also 0.5 and besides that nobody else, then the maximum we can win from a 50% coinflip is 0.8. Perhaps you could make that more "natural" like 97% / 3% first game and every game 3% more to jackpot. If it's 80% / 20% in the end and people bet around the same amount every week then of course you don't really have this problem anymore. I can't be bothered to calculate it all exactly but I assume the things I say here are correct, if not please correct me hehe :p good luck anyways.. I will keep an eye on it and might join with some small money.

There's something about inspiration, determination, perspiration and frustration. I forgot exactly what it was, but here's my take on it.

My inspiration was one of the older lotteries. I am determined to make something like it work again. Thomas Edison said it was 99% perspiration. It all starts with 99% frustration.

Here's the address as seen from blockchain.
https://blockchain.info/address/1K7TmkJ5MT95nGbVgDxp1Vi8LT6ZBEYEcF

Only look at the final balance. It's a carry over from the first round, since it was hardly used, and I didn't want to make a new QR code graphic. When I do have a website in the hopefully not too distant future, I might use a vanity address. But I prefer compressed keys.

The amount of work you put into this is uh...wow to say the least. I hope this actually becomes successful with all the writing you did. I'll send .01 for giggles if I see at least 10 people or so in it next time I look at the address  Smiley

Good. I can start using that on Dabs Lotto Number 3 next week.

I'd like to avoid using people, like yourself. Large websites such as those mentioned aren't likely to get hit by a bus. (Or, it seems, they practically run themselves.)

I will make a small compilation of third party website secrets, but so far, the list I mentioned should be more than enough.
