Donate it for gaza, they real need your donation :/

That would be good, but be careful to make sure your donation will actually help innocent people, as opposed to funding Hamas.

Yeah, Yassir Arafat died a billionaire, and had plenty of well-meaning Western donors to thank for that.

Right now, Doctors Without Borders or a similar organization could probably use your help fighting Ebola in Africa.

My honoust opinion is that you can better keep the 1 BTC and save it as a long time investment, if you really want to spend it, go buy and invest in green energy like solar panels or something like that, that way you would help the nature in some ways.

Please don't put your money in some sort of foundation to "help" 3th world country's, most of the money is used to fund civil wars if not for the foundation owners.

Use it to pay for a Doctor's flight to a developed country where that Doctor would spend a month or so providing medical care to local, impoverished people.

$580 isn't much, but it would get a very qualified person with literally "life saving skills" to people that need those skills the most.

I'd donate it to Doctors without Borders.

How many people do you have in your immediate family, i.e., husband/wife and/or children? Because those are the people you should use that money to help first and foremost. Maybe your kids need new clothes or shoes for school. Put the monetary value of the 1 BTC into a college fund. Buy emergency supplies like candles, batteries, flashlights, dried/canned foods with long shelf lives, water and water purification devices. You never know when an emergency situation may arise where you will need to rely on these kinds of things. Maybe it's just me, but my number one priority is and always will be my family... not someone else's
kid(s) in some other country where I have no proof at all that the money I would send them in aid would ever in fact get to them or be used for them.

I am fortunate enough to have family that don't require my financial assistance. I am a single female professional and am able to handle my own and at the same time am able to help a random stranger or two.

I have decided to donate to Seans Outpost for helping the homeless. Thanks for all the suggestions.

That was going to be my suggestion. I don't know of anything that helps in a more direct way.

Before giving to a charity you should do your best to assess how effective they are.

While Gaza charities are worthy and it's certainly a hot topic, it is likely that you can do more good by donating to a different charity.

This organisation does a lot of work to establish the most effective charities to donate to: http://www.givingwhatwecan.org/

If you have time, have a read through their assessments otherwise you can view their top charities here:

Find a charity that is helping to give communities water or medicine in the third world. I'd recommend donating to a christian charity simply due to the potential for corruption being slightly lower.

If I get 1 BTC ($580) from somewhere for free, then I'll donate it to Survival International for the protection of uncontacted tribal people in the Peruvian Amazonia region. The natives there are being massacred by the illegal loggers and drug traffickers.

How many people can I help with 1 Bitcoin? In a meaningful way. I will give 0.05 to the first person with the most well thought out plan.

Many people, you could help the people for 0 BTC .. just time and energy Smiley
You can send people of the world some BTC, but quality of life is not always correlated with that.
