can't afford or doesn't care enough to offer even half decent customer service including at the least live chat (they did for a short time have a half assed version of live chat during a part of the day).
Cs at Coinbase has always been rock bottom. Likewise their FAQs.
I've always felt that it was almost a point of honor with them that they gave the absolute minimum of helpful information and explanation.
Does anyone reading this have a bank or a credit card company which does not offer 24/7 telephone service?
Coinbase has never had consistent Live Chat and when they attempted it briefly it rarely was available, and they've never had phone cs.
When I've emailed questions it's apparent that the person answering often has only glanced at the first sentence or the title of the email to them and it's necessary to go back and forth a few times to get a partial answer.
They're also deceptive re: their insurance.
Their hot wallet is insured, not their cold storage where about 95% of customer's coins are stored.
Really a wretched company in numerous ways.
Any alternatives that you suggest?
That's the problem for people living in the USA - finding an alternative.
Circle just dropped their btc business.
The 99bitcoins.com article I posted above lists some alternatives at the end of the article:
"Don’t use Coinbase if you intend to use your bitcoins for anything 'naughty.' To avoid future legal entanglements, your best option a decentralised exchange, such as LocalBitcoins or Mycelium Local Trader."
There's also a link to click on: "Find the best exchange to buy Bitcoins", which also lists
LocalBitcoins
VirWoX
BTCe
I'll be looking into these.
