Nice thread, I think that now that the fees are low again, and segwit adoption is increasing, and lightning network is also increasing it's number of nodes and channels quite rapidly (if you consider it's still in beta), we will definitely see the number of stores and merchants accepting bitcoin as a payment method grow in number. I don't understand why steem is not accepting bitcoin again already. Hopefully they will change their mind soon, as the big names start moving into bitcoin.
I agree with you, bitcoin scalability can be overcome with lightning network technology and other protocols. even though it's not widely used by people, nowadays many people think of transferring bitcoin via exchange so they declare expensively and so forth. whereas if they want to use a bitcoin core/lightning network then the transfer fees can be reduced cheaper.The above information is quite convincing that in the future bitcoin can be used as digital payments, even though there are many rivals (ALTs) but bitcoin cannot be replaced because we know bitcoin is still the choice of many people based on marketcap.
