Severs having problems again?  Lots of idle miners and TCP timeout errors in the last few minutes....

I get a lot of idle messages, but my GPUs keep running at 99% and the Hashrate doesnt go down at all. Does it mean I can just ignore the warnings?

Can you see what your GPU temperature is doing?
Other than the potential loss of submitted shares [which is likely quite small for most people], the risk to your hardware is cycling temperature which will fatigue the parts and eventually cause premature failure [statistically].  It isn't so different from why "highway miles" are so much easier on your vehicle than "city miles".   It is a basic principal in materials science and fatigue applies to nearly every metallic substance and MANY other.
Yes. The largest gap was about 3 seconds and GPU load dropped to 0% while the temps were about 1°C lower. But most of the time I cant even see gaps in MSI Afterburner.

Pretty much yes.

If your hashrate is unaffected its unlikely that your rig is being affected by tiny amounts of idles. Ignore the "fatigue" guy, sounds like he has some weird problem with his individual setup.

The only problem I'm having with BTCGuild is a slightly overhigh stale share rate. Still floating around 2%, whereas before I used to be at 1/2%. Perhaps its just an inevitable effect of higher difficulty I dunno.

I don't think difficulty and stales would be related...

Im using phoenix with phatk.
Thats a good tip on blockexplorer. I didnt think of that for some reason.
To test, I have started 2 miners with exact settings on identical GPU's. One is pointed at deepbit, the other at BTCGuild.   I was going to redirect STDOUT to a log, but I figured it would grow substantially Smiley  So I have the sessions SSH'd on my laptop and a keeping an eye on them for a while.

CubedRoot, check blockexplorer.com when a LP happens. If there's a new block found at that time, the LP was a good thing, as it prevented your miner from calculating stale shares. For me, BTC Guild triggers long poll pushes at the right time.

Also, LP shouldn't change your temperatures unless the mining software you use is coded in a bad way.

Well, thats what I would have thought, but I dont.
I even had one miner running on deepbit and one running on btcguild in different screen sessions.  BTCGuild would be long polling like a mofo in succession of about 15 or 20 times, while the miner at deepbit wouldnt.  If i outputted my GPU temps during these longpoll sessions, my temps would bounce like crazy.

Sure long polls are good things once in a while, but when they happen over and over, its not a good thing.  Causes my GPU's to go idle and thermal shock.

Long polls happening over and over are NEW blocks.  They are not happening "over and over" just because the server feels like sending them to you.  You would have seen the exact same LPs from DeepBit.

I had just the opposite Veldy. LOL.
BTCGuild gives me alot of idles and long poll pushes, and deepbit has been running superbly for me.
Long polls are good things.

New server is already being provisioned in the UK now since EU server seems to have the most load being pointed at it.  There is no way for me to know exactly what the new servers can handle, but they are weaker than the primary server.  Right now all I can do is throw more servers at the problem until I have a chance to possibly rewrite the entire pool to be custom like slush & Deepbit, rather than pushpool.

"miner is idle" me too, i've moved to you pool from deepbit about 4 hours ago, i use the eu server because i'm from italy.

LOL.   Huh

Sorry dude. I dont know why but it happens to me alot, and I didnt want to risk my GPU's so I had to move to deepbit.  I keep trying BTCGuild every so often throughout the day, but its always the same results. So, I am having to mine at deepbit until things get worked out here. Sad

Thanks a lot  Tongue.  Literally as I was reading this message, my GPU usage dropped to zero AND the temperature dipped 3degC before recovering.  Probably not too hard on the hardware at that level, but I will have to pay attention to it.

I connected to the DNS balanced host and so far the miner in front of me is doing very well.  On the contrary, I did a very small amount of testing on deepbit and they are now plagued with this problem ... expect more miners Smiley

is there something up with the email?

idle warnings don't seem to be working.  my miner has been deliberately down for 15 minutes and no email (with idle warning set for 5)

donation is set at 2.5% and the donation amount/confirmed reward matches that.
I once have noticed the same.

Good work with the new servers.  A week ago i was getting idle miners every 2-3 minutes, now I can actually mine in your pool and have moved my 1.5G hashes from deepbit to btc guild Cheesy
