As a reminder since it is now a page or two back, the pool will have a 1-2 hour maintenance 2 hours from now.  This is to install new hardware for the server to be able to keep up with the demand of our increasing has rate.
Thanks for the reminder!

I sure hope that hardware upgrade will fix the idle miner warnings. It's pretty bad today. I get about 2-3 per minute!

difficulty increase/decrease really shouldn't impact ones round shares and estimated reward at all. we're all solving difficulty 1 in the pool until someone just happens to return a solution that also meets/solves the block at real difficulty. the only thing that will/should impact your estimated reward is the amount of shares you turn in, in relation to the amount of shares other users turn in (which is generally based on your total hashing speed, though luck is a factor also), and the amount of other workers/users. as the pool gets bigger, expect to earn less since the bounty is divided up amongst more, and as more faster miners join, expect your rewards to decrease because you hold less % of the shares.

but, more users and faster speed is a good thing, because it generally leads to better chances of solving a block faster, which means more frequent bounties, which means more btc even if each round reward is lower.

you could have a 10 hour round where your estimate was 3btc for the whole thing, and get 3btc when it finally solves, or you could have 3x 3 hour rounds where your estimate is only 1.5 btc and make 4.5btc in less time. if that makes sense.

Hi guys Smiley

At first when I started on BTC guild I was getting 0.3xxxxxxx btc pr round. it has gone down to 0.2xxx max now. Is this because of more users in the pool or is it just rapidly getting harder to mine? Smiley

Best regards!
It is because of more users in the pool so everyone gets less but more often. Difficulty hasn't changed for over a week now, however it will almost double inside the next 24 hours, which means you'll end up getting only about half of what you get now.

Gotcha! Smiley

Gonna have to order a 5850 then. Smiley

Rename worker is disabled until the hardware switch.  The default pushpool method of storing workers in the share database is by username as a text field.  Meaning to accurately swap a worker's name, the entire share database needed updating.

With tomorrow's maintenance, I'm changing the pushpool software to use worker and user IDs rather than text names, and the ability to rename workers will be restored.

Cool, thanks! Smiley

In other news: I found a block!! Now we can say goodbye to that long round. Cheesy

Edit: By the way, where is the rename worker option? I can't seem to find it...

You're right. That option seems to be gone.

Pool will be down for approximately 5 minutes to prune all the confirmed block shares out of the DB.  This will hopefully allow the pool to keep up with the current hash rate until the new hardware arrives tomorrow.

Long 5 minutes is long... Undecided

I have been getting quite a lot of idle miner warnings over the past hour or so. I thought maybe it was my crappy internet connection, but my low priority deepbit backup miner shows no errors over the same time. So I guess the problem must be on the server side. Hopefully the mentioned server upgrade will solve it.

There were some people experiencing disconnects or miner idles overnight, in short bursts.  As far as I have been able to tell from the logs, this is related to I/O wait and internal network latency between the web/pool server and the database server.  This is likely because the pool has doubled in size in the last few days, now over 50 gH/sec, which is far faster than I anticipated.

Because of this, I have moved the planned maintenance window from Thursday to Wednesday (4:30 PM PST - ~6:00 PM).  This maintenance will be installing a solid state drive for faster database access (which has been related to some of the miner idles/RPC errors).  I will also be installing a second NIC card into the web/pool server and connecting the database server directly to the web/pool server to avoid running this through the network router, which is likely the cause for some latency spikes and/or disconnects.

Right now I have no plans to make the payouts come directly out of the block, it would require a significant amount of changes to both the site and the pool code.

In other news:  You can now view detailed block statistics which breakdown shares by user, reward by user, and donation by user.  It is kept hidden by User ID#.  Your personal contribution to the block (if any) is highlighted in yellow.  You can access this information by clicking the 'View' link on the right side of the block in the statistics listing.

Nice little feature.
Hopefully your pool gets some attention and takes off.
