A (possibly) funny story...

I got started with btcguild when it was a fraction of the current size. I joined due to the nice interface and small pool size which made my paltry hashrate feel significant.

Also, being able to choose my own donation rate is a nice touch. I actually ended up donating a relatively large portion of my shares in light of the stinginess that some of the biggest miners demonstrate.

Then the recent explosion in pool size dropped my relative contribution through the floor and I decided to drop out and gamble on solo mining.

Within a few hours of dropping out I'd found my first block!

One suggestion: Allowing sorting of the block statistics by donation percentage.

Considered setting up some AJAX on the site to automatically update the statistics in the browser?  Seems like a logical step since you're already so fancy Smiley

AJAX and I have a complicated history. Generally when I walk down that road, I don't resurface for a while.  Waiting until the site has all the major features and donator perks implemented before I start doing things like that Smiley.

Some security features have been added, with a few more on the way:

You can now set an optional email field on your account.  This is currently only used for wallet change notifications, but will soon allow password resets and payout notifications.

When your wallet is changed, payouts are disabled for 24 hours to protect your account.

If your email is changed, a copy of all emails will be sent to your previously used address for the following 24 hours.

These security measures will prevent anybody from gaining access to your account, and then changing your email (and then your wallet) without you being notified.  Of course, if your own system has been compromised by either keylogging or somebody has gained access to your email, these changes cannot prevent such a person from hiding their tracks, it will only slow them down.

All excellent ideas!

Hey,

Are any of y'all getting a disproportionate amount of stale shares? I only got 1 stale shared out of like a thousand at Slush's, but I seem to be getting one every 50-75 shares here. :?

Didn't seem to change when I switched from a 5770 to a 5870 either. :/

Am I the only one experiencing this?

Update: eleuthria is right, after the hardware reset, this problem is fixed. I'm hovering between .5% and 1% now, much more normal. Smiley

Was removing what should have been an obsolete field in the database.  Turns out the rewards display still used that column, even though it shouldn't have.  Actual reward allocations were not affected, and it has been fixed.

Thanks!  Love the service and constant communication of BTC Guild!

New site bug: My unconfirmed rewards just went to zero, but the Block Statistics page shows a bunch of blocks I contributed to that are not confirmed yet.

Exact issue here.  Did a refresh, my confirmed rewards dropped over 50%.  Going over the blocks, only the confirmed blocks are counted in my confirmed rewards, despite my 2.5% donation, which should include my unconfirmed rewards as well.  My unconfirmed rewards dropped to zero as well, even though the block stats show otherwise...

Site bug: I have a single worker who was active roughly 8 hours ago, before I turned him off for the night.  This morning, the worker's Last Share shows 362820 hours, which is off by about 362812 hours Cheesy

Keep up the good work!  Any chance you'd consider open-sourcing the backend RPC server code?

Thanks!

I am aware of the last share time display issue.  Right now the database is cleaning up old shares as newer blocks are found.  A similar problem is happening with the reset share/stale counter due to this database cleaning.  They will be fixed sometime this week.

The server is running a (mostly) standard pushpool, so open sourcing my pool would not accomplish too much Smiley.

I'm pretty sure there is no difference between how much you make if you join a faster pool or slower pool correct?

However, does variance get affected? I think the slower pool would have more variance, as there as less blocks solved.

Pretty much.  With a bigger pool, you get more frequent smaller payments.  With a smaller pool, you get less frequent larger payments.  Sorta.  In practice, you probably make a tiny, tiny fraction more in a larger pool, over time, than you would in a smaller pool.

Nice, I like the simplicity of your website.

Pointing 1Gh/s towards your pool.

Hope more people join!

Miner idles should have stopped yesterday for most users, however it is possible for them to start showing up as the hash rate of the pool has been increasing rapidly and is straining the hardware when a large number of shares + a block solve happen simultaneously.

I have a dedicated hosting provider lined up and they are going to be setting up a server with the specs I need this week.  This will be a significantly more powerful system than what the pool is currently running on, has a 100 mbps connection, and very strong DDoS protection.  The switch to the new server should happen on Thursday or Friday this week.

Wow! Growing pains your first week out. Sweet.
