I invested in several ICOs last year, some are doing better than others but what I learned most of all is that it doesn't seem worth investing in a coin or token at ICO stage, even with the bonuses. Without fail I watched in horror as the price plummeted once the coin was listed, and none of them have recovered. Don't get me wrong, I'm intending to hold for a long time, I'm not a dumper, but I do think that it's better value to wait for the initial price spike then buy once the price stabilizes a little, more than likely at well below ICO price. In my experience, it's better value to do this.

Of course, Bitcoin is the granddaddy of all crypto. At some point I see a consolidation of coins and tokens (my opinion, I could be wrong but how sustainable is 000's of coins all with unique use cases?) but the established core will remain. These seem to me to be the best ones to invest in as part of a long term strategy. You are absolutely right to keep a cash reserve and I would build this up further; maybe a 60/40 crypto/cash split or even 70/30 if your risk appetite is strong, but if you get in a hole at least you have plenty of ready cash to fall back on.

Another thing, if you find yourself good with analyzing and find good ico, can go with investing on one month in between. This will have a diversified portfolio by the end of the year. The same will get a big profit, if there isn't any profit surely you won't end up losing.

I have invested 80% of my free funds around 12.000$ about two years ago, I made 10x since then, i have reinvested over 50% of my profits on other projects.

I had a strategy to invest around 80% of my investment funds in projects with strong positions on coinmarketcap / top 100. And 20% would like to take a greater risk and invest in fresh new coming projects that might be in the last positions on cmc, because by the time I was investing in top projects nothing would happen and I was regularly seeing how some new projects pop up out of nowhere and get on top 100/200 position with tremendous price rise, so I decided to make a little bit research on a low cap projects with active team / community / development and small circulating supply, which would give great profits just by adding on several exchanges.

At first place I had invested in over than 50 projects, I don't remember them all, but will mention some that I remember. I we're investing 100 per project and up to 1000$ - 2000$ in some particular.

Unpopular project / my first highly risk investment with a significant amount for me.
BTCRED (invested 2000$ which hit around 80.000$ at ATH) but I fixed at 20.000$ if something similar happens I hope I will fix more profits)
This project had only 21 mln, supply, active team & community, I saw they were trying to make some development build a wallet, get on exchange, and decided to take a risk.

Titanium 1000$ (by friend suggestion) I wouldn't invest myself, didn't like the project and the price was overvalued ico at sale stage, but because I had made good profits I could afford myself

After taking profits, I continued searching for unpopular projects with small circulating supply and low price. I made investment in several such a projects, the major investment were in iBTC project, the team is active since 2017 until now. And one of my friends suggested BCO project, where the developers are going to buyback tokens within 1-2 years at wholesale price pegged to 1 kg of finger lady bananas, the business which they do after fundraising, the team is also still active since 2017. My major holdings at the moment from top 100 are BTC dgb eth and some of the above altcoins.

On the next bull run I am going to invest 60-70% of my profits in real estate

Mostly if you have this kind of financial situation you will find these on pensioned people but for those people who do work to get some salary would really be a different story.
If i do have this case then i will definitely make some investments. Each month i will spare 50% on btc and 50% on alts but you should not expect that profit would come to your pocket specially
now we are on a bear market.We cant be sure on when prices would rise up.

It seems like you are pensioned and have a financial freedom in life, If money is flowing to you monthly and you have an extra $1000 then I would say that this is the very right time to buy your positions to Bitcoin as I believe that current price is a discounted price for a much more bigger future to it.

It's much better to study outside this forum too and read more about the analytics of the crypto market to some well known experts and advisers.

I hope he could still hold longer because the price does not reach the highest price. Perhaps, he needs to buy more if he still has money because, before the price increase, I think it will get down for a small price to search for a new position to increase. He can choose bitcoin only for the investment because bitcoin will give him a lot of profit once the price increase. But it's up to him about what coin he needs to buy, and we only can suggest to him.

OP , I like this simple suggested given to you especially the first sentence encouraging you not to sell off.... Keep hodling, don't be discouraged because you will be profit soon when market will go bull.

Personally I'm always going for value (cheap and unnoticed investments), I'm staying away from hyped projects (a slight fear can cause huge falls) and I diversify between coins, shares and metals.

Projects I consider good value,
Bitcoin, XRP, ARK

US Stocks I consider good value,
Nvidia, Ford, Micron, Twitter

Metals,
I prefer silver

I would be suggesting that you diversify your investments by considering other investing methods present (bank notes, stocks, cryptocurrencies). By this way, you may be able to minimize your chances of loss by the end of the investment period. Another thing, index stock funds are an alternative if you are relatively new to stocks since it follows blue-chip companies price. Categorize each of your investment whether for short or long-term.


With the popularity of ICOs being tarnished by recent scams and shenanigans, I do not suggest in investing into such. Given the returns are relatively low plus the chance of losing your investment completely, the risk definitely outweighs the reward from this point.

There's no way in hell I'd be chasing ICOs if I had that much extra dough each month.  I will agree that ETH probably isn't a bad idea, since it's been beaten down quite hard in the past year, and it's one of a small handful of coins that actually has utility.  I've got zero faith that any shit ICO token is going to produce any profit whatsoever, be it long- or short-term.

The above statement holds only in the case of having to invest that $1000 in crypto.  If I had a free choice to make I would most likely start buying some blue chip stocks that pay decent dividends.  That's one thing crypto has yet to give investors: income. 

Maybe it's a high risk if you invest in ICO project, because I didn't see any ICO project succeeded in the last few months, so it will be like gambling with a high risk. I think the best proposition is the invest the 1000$ in different coins. In my opinion, I will invest 50% of them in bitcoin and the other 50% in different other altcoin, I will choose carefully because there is a lot of cheap coin have also a good potential to succeed in the future.

$1k weekly isnt really simple and besides this is already a 2 month salary here on my country.So, basically this is really an opportunity for OP since not all do have
the capability to save up this big amount on weekly basis.When talking about investment then buying out BTC or ETH would be the best option if you are not into trading.
