To anyone familiar with bitminter, if a user has more power or GH/s than the top miners why aren't they featured on the board and why do only one to five users find blocks, dont regular user have a chance to find one too and also i have two s1 miners overclocked one with 4 fans and one with 3, im having heating problems in my house overall as a result of the miners, does anyone have good ideas on how to solve this problem?

If you have enough hashing power to show on the top list, you will. How much are you hashing with? If you only have two S1's then you are not even close to making the list. You're going to need a minimum of 2.8THs or another 12+ S1's.

Everyone has a chance to solve a block. But the guys with the most hash have better chances. It's simple odds.

Mining adds heat to your environment. Fans will not actually cool the ambient air. All they do is stir the air. To combat the heat generated by mining equipment you need to...
- exhaust the hot air outside by some means
- or chill the air with cooler air either from outside or with A/C
- undervolting/clocking can also reduce the heat generated by your mining equipment but it will also reduce your hashing power

Doc,

Is there an easy way to see where I stand compared to the other miners in the pool? I'm only running about 900GH/s, so there is no way I'll make the top 50.

Thanks

The reason for my suggestion was because Doc can't just flip a switch and merge mine a new type of coin. It takes time for him to setup, test, and test some more. Since his time is limited it would help him to know which coins to focus on first if there was a compelling utility for one coin over another.

If the answer is just, We should mine every sha-256 coin out there so we can speculate, then obviously that's going to take him a while to add each coin individually.

I received my S2 yesterday and after opening up the case and re-sitting the control board and a few of the other boards it has been up and running for about 20 hours.  Been getting about 1003 Gh/s on average.  Totaling about 3.1 - 3.3 Th/s.

Now I just need to solve the power issue in the house.....running out of outlets and circuits!

Does anyone have more than 4 Th/s running out of their home?  If so, did you get any special electric work done to support it?

Just hope our luck improves here a bit....!

The luck has been bad. I just started mining with 5 antminer s1 s . I'm very new to mining but how long do you wait for the luck to change?
I don't think at this rate I won't  cover the electric needed to run the power supplies and the antminers. I like this pool because it's so easy to use, but I would like to recoup my investment.
I have learned a lot from all of the posts here. I have been able to set up all the equipment just by reading lots of posts.
Thank you all for sharing your information it's been a great help!

My experience here (about 6 weeks) is that after a run of bad luck we usually find 2 - 3 blocks fairly quickly.  From what I've read, and this could be wrong, is that you will end up with (basically) the same net dollars from any pool.  If one has more hashing power than BitMinter, then your payouts are less, but they might find blocks quicker.

I'd stick it out here for at least another week or two since Murphy's Law says once you leave we find 3 quick blocks....  Wink

1 PH/s of awesomeness. Thanks to all who mine at Bitminter! Smiley

Regarding coins, most merged coins have a value very close to zero, except namecoin. I'll have a look at the new ones.

I would like a opinion on this mergecoin theory:
Placed by another member in another thread...

""I will let you in on a little secret: The actual purpose of merge-mining is to increase the hashrate and so reduce the amount of coins any one party receives from mining. This induces scarcity which in turn is expected to encourage the price to increase.

If you merge-mine a coin with equal hashrate, you are then doubling your coins hashrate (assuming you get that whole community to merge-mine your coin as well). This increases the difficulty, less coins to more people, price is expected to go up due to scarcity.""

It might be helpful for Doc with regard to new merged mining if people could explain why people would USE a new coin.

We all understand why bitcoin is useful and why namecoin is useful. What about the others? If no one can easily explain the utility of a new coin, then most likely, it will never have value above zero. Even a one sentence description such as "Dessertcoin is like bitcoin but gives you free ice cream" would help.

Why do you need to know an alt coins utility if you simply merge-mining it? Just exchange it into bitcoin.

Btw, there is a massive subculture of alt coin enthusiasts/investors. Regardless of a coin's utility, if there is a demand for it, it has value. Alt coin has produced a lot of wealth for savvy investors. Is it a house of cards that will come crashing down? Yes, it happens everyday, lol. But merge-mining is virtually zero risk since you are still mining the primary coin and the alt coins are just a bonus.

I personally would like to know if Maza and Unobtainium are merge-mineable. And to a lesser extent, Bytecoin. We know Devcoin and IXcoin are merge-mineable because GHash does it already. But what about the newer coins?

DOC,
Any plans to open up any other cryptocurrencies on Bitminter?  Dual mining of Namecoins is a great starting point and, to be honest, I'm  not sure what other currencies use SHA-256 but I figured I would put the question out there.

How come NMC keep going stale?

There are some serious issues with the namecoin software - it's very unstable. I'll give the "q" branch/fork a try soon and see if it works better.

'The right to privacy matters'
Hey guys

My buddy has this Antminer S1.. Is it doing any good..

The Asic status page has all x's instead of 0's..

How do I add a picture?  Huh

Jim

Edit*

My buddy unplugged the unit for about 1 hour and everything seems to be ok now.

The power off you did does work to get rid of x's

here is a link to an s-1 miner monitor program that auto boots if you get x's

Hodl!
It's actually not a net gain, it's a push.  The gain is your variance decreases, but that doesn't mean you make more (or less).

True I guess, if our variance didn't seem to only go one way... Which is what gets me thinking like that.
