There is no such thing as safety when it comes to buying crypto. You just have to research on your own and decide what you want to do with your money. it's not that you will loose it all, it's about the price fluctuations.

You do have the chance to lost all you money in your invest , so thinking about this carefully before you invest.
Now if I have $12000 then I will surely invest it to crypto currency... I will invest it all to all of those promising crypto currencies out there in the market today who are really legit and has the capability to increase its market value in the long run so that I could be able to get back what I had invested and gain some profits as well then reinvest it again and so on.
If i have only 1000 dollars , it would be a good choice to invest this money in IOTA, ADA, Verge?
My suggestion is Bitcoin and ethereum, its safe investments

QUANTSTAMP, ELIXIR, and POWR, they are very long term holds of course, but you can easily make a bunch of money from all them. This is just my opinion, of course, but i am not wrong about this.

None of the existing coins can be 100% safe. every coin's price goes up and down, and if you start panicking and sell at low, you lose. if you keep calm and hold-you earn. Except the cases when a coin's price will never rise again. to avoid such a situation, invest in first 10 marketcap.
12,000$ is really quite big. You can invest that in different coins, learn to diversify or participate in some ICO that has potential in the market soon, like 3 to 5 years. If you are new in cryptocurrency, use that in buying some undervalued coins now and holding for how many years or decades.
