Eos is a good coin for long-term investment. However, I also think you should not put all your money into one coin. it is too risky. you can also add more coins such as xrp, Bcc and so on.
Ripple coin is very best for long term investment because it's market cap is very high and total supply is also affected the price of the coin. if ripple coin price will reach to $15 then according to market cap ripple will come to the first rank in the coinmarketcap and after that it's will rock in the crypto market. Honestly, first read the forums learn more about crypto currency. Look what people are buying, ask all of them what and how, and not just in one branch. And only then start investing, because you can also lose, risks are everywhere without them, life would be boring))))

I would hedge 30% of your investment into Bitcoin, LItecoin, Neo and Ethereum, the rest put into some nice revenue promising, generating tokens and coins. I have a small investment in PPT, which is an invoice factoring business. I also invested in two tokens COB AND COSS, which are two exchanges. ethereum. ETH is one of the most potent coins to have a high price. many predict that eth prices in 2018 will exceed $ 1000, some even say that eth will also catch up with the current bitcoin price.
try dividing your investment in different alts like xrp, gvt and Vtc. don't just put all your investments in litecoin, or you'll end up with nothing in return.
If I only have $12000 to invest I will surely invest it on cheap cryptocurrency which has the bigger probability in growing and increasing its market value, even though it's only $12000 but if you will spend it wisely it will gonna gain you profits double or triple your investment in a short span of time, ending up your $12000 money well spent in your growing investment.

I'd personally look for coins that have a quantity of coins less than 100.000.000 and the prices under $1 or under $2. Also check the project before investing, some might be just scam and you will lose money. Any good project in the parameters I mentioned have coins of higher value than that.
pick out 12 coins which are mentioned above and just put 1000 dollars in each of them. after that send it to your wallets and keep them there without touching for at least 2 years.

My suggestion for you to inevst in bitcoin for long term instead to go with another altcoins Because investment in altcoins is a tredious thing to make profit Because sometimes we need really a long time to wait for investment in altcoins to get profit .How long should I hold it?

But still beside to make income from the increase of price of bitcoin , you should invest in Etherium , bitcoin gold , ripple , monero , Digibyte , dash etc these are those coins having price lower averagly , so you can see that if you will invest today then in short and long term both side you can make profit easily .
But still you should be careful that to invest in altcoins is not safe than what we have safety of our money in bitcoin .

If you are going for long term and would want to be on the safer side then you should split your investment like invest half in ETH which is confirmed as an asset that would surely be profitable in future and invest the rest in at coins like LTC, ripple, or electroneum.
By this you won't even go in loss of one crypto get ban or faces a big drop in their value.
Invest in just two strongest altcoin ETH and LTC. 50/50 is okay. with the recent rise in value of LTC to over 300% of the initial value, it shows that the coin have great prospect. ETH is another interesting altcoin which take us all by surprise this year going above $800 at some point. invest in this two coin for long term and i can bet with you that you will smile to the bank in few years to come. ETH have prospect of reaching $10000 by the end of 2018 so also LTC might reach $5k.
