the dirty campaign has started quickly, it looks like they will try to attract people who might replace Ledger wallet.
I have the feeling this 15% Trezor discount came one day before the first information about the Ledger Recover feature started making headlines, am I right? They have had such discounts in the past, so it doesn't look like it's connected with Ledger shooting themselves in the foot to see what will happen.

We can now say that Trezor is still in a much better position compared to Ledger
I agree somewhat with that statement. I wouldn't say 'much better', but slightly better. Co-sharing your seed phrase with 3rd-parties is worse than holding hands with chain analysis companies and working together on censoring and investigating the history of your UTXOs.

I wonder if what Trezor and Ledger are doing is solely their hunger for profit or if they have grown big enough and the time has come to cut their wings. The way to do that is getting big companies involved who you can easily press to reveal sensitive information on request.

What do you mean by "dubious collaborations" is this what you are refer for Trezor and Wasabi Collaboration Enhances Bitcoin Privacy with CoinJoin Feature?
It is related to privacy and not the security of your bitcoins.
It might not be directly related to security, but it is still a massive issue that Trezor fund government sanctioned surveillance and censorship.

Security is in ensuring that the private key is generated in a way that does not and will not connect to the Internet or that it is shared in one way or another with third parties, something that has not happened in Trezor.
Note that all Trezor devices have an unfixable vulnerability which means your seed phrase can be extracted from the device. If you are worried about this on Ledger devices, you should be just as worried about it on Trezor devices.

Trezor and Ledger are both very poor choices of hardware wallet.

It may be better to buy from other companies that offer really reliable devices and don't try to fool their customers with dubious collaborations (Trezor) and recovery functions (Ledger).

Security is in ensuring that the private key is generated in a way that does not and will not connect to the Internet or that it is shared in one way or another with third parties, something that has not happened in Trezor.

In terms of privacy, if we take electrum wallet as an example, it is bad for privacy, as some electrum servers are managed by Chainalysis.

Chainalysis is the same company that does blockchain analysis with wasabiwallet and they're both trying to make privacy with CoinJoin questionable.

Quote
“The downside to this design is that when the user wallet connects to the network, a variety of information is revealed - the user’s IP address, the full set of addresses in the wallet (used and unused) and the version of the wallet software,” according to the slide deck. “Chainalysis runs a series of nodes on the Bitcoin network ... and if a user connects to one of our nodes, we receive the above information.”

Unless you're running a full node through Tor, relying on third parties, including electrum wallet, gives you questionable privacy.

There is a new 15% discount on Trezor hardware wallets and the Shamir HODL Pack.
The promotional prices will last until 21 May.

the dirty campaign has started quickly, it looks like they will try to attract people who might replace Ledger wallet.

We can now say that Trezor is still in a much better position compared to Ledger:

  • You will be careful before you install any future firmware updates or build firmware from reproducible builds and check everything in the code.
  • They still need to know they need the PIN if they suddenly decide to install the firmware without your permission so you have the option to stop using any future updates like what happened with Ledger Recovery.
  • Don't update the firmware (unless there was a private key bug)

With all these discounts, however, I recommend airgapped, electrum cold storage for my bitcoins instead of wasting my money in a new hardware wallet.
It is not known how long this "much better position compared to Ledger" will last.

It looks like these two biggest hardware wallet companies are now competing to see who screwed up the most.

I used to rejoice at the news about discounts, which allowed to purchase a device at a discount. Admit it, it's always nice to buy a little cheaper than full price, if possible. But now there are doubts whether it is worth buying from these manufacturers for the sake of saving 10-15% of the cost. It may be better to buy from other companies that offer really reliable devices and don't try to fool their customers with dubious collaborations (Trezor) and recovery functions (Ledger).

It is the last discount that year or not, the promo is a bit disappointing IMHO. I do not think free delivery would change the total cost enough to convince someone to buy Trezor just because of that.
Personally I do not understand why the prices are so high, if the price for One I may understand, the price for T is for me unacceptable. I would say shipping costs are already included in the base price - maybe it would be a better strategy for them : "you pay for device, we deliver it for free".

I assume this "free delivery" deal will be the last one of this year. I guess it is okey after the up 30% they gave in November, judging by the fact their webpage was non-responsive for several days I would say their previous offer was a success.
Satoshilabs may have no incentive to offer Christmas offers this year because of that, I recall last year they gave a discount for the purchase of two Trezor One.

Also, I hope they finally reveal their new generation of wallets this incoming 2023, they are staying behind in comparison to Ledger.

Apparently, this will be the last bonus to trezor buyers this year.
Did they confirm that somewhere in their official channels or is it your personal opinion? Something tells me they will have some type of promotion for New Years Eve as well. They have been onboarding many new customers ever since the problems with centralized platforms began last month and can surely afford another discount if they wanted to.
This is just my personal guess based on the wording on their twitter:  "This Christmas, give your loved ones security", "Your perfect Christmas gift".
https://twitter.com/Trezor/status/1600181921681506307?cxt=HHwWhoCgndm-_rQsAAAA

If during this action there was a mention of Christmas and a Christmas gift, then in my opinion, the probability of using this event for promotional purposes tends to zero. Agree, 2 discount promotions dedicated to the same holiday, this is unlikely.

I can't say for sure, but here are my guesses. There are only a couple of weeks left until the end of the year - so let's check my guesses.

SatoshiLabs can't stop luring new customers. One discount promotion is replaced by another: instead of a 15% discount, now free shipping. Only 1 day left until the end of the Christmas gift.

It also worries me the features of the new model, besides the TropicSquare chips, what other added advantages this model would have over Model T and One, I wonder. There must be something which drive people to buy it, otherwise they may not sell as much as they expect.
Trezor Model T and Model One both suffer from an unfixable design flaw allowing a knowledgeable individual to extract the seed with relatively cheap hardware. I think Ledger's security team was the first that pointed that out, of course without releasing any instructions or guides for an attack. Trezor doesn't have a secure element.

Since this can't be fixed with the current devices, they are developing a new secure element component that will be part of a future hardware wallet of theirs. This new chip will be as open-source as possible and fix the previously mentioned design flaws. I think that alone is quite a nice update, although you would need physical access to a Trezor to be able to manipulate it and extract sensitive information. A strong passphrase and a secure code stored on a micro SD card are excellent ways to mitigate the hardware vulnerabilities of the two devices.

-snip-
I just checked and I can confirm they are selling the Trezor model T for 181$, not bad to be honest.
I guess that depends where you are in the world. If you want to ship it to a country in the EU, you are looking at prices of €220-€230. The price you see is probably without VAT (non-EU, Asian, American countries). You have to take that into consideration depending on how much VAT you are required to pay and how big the amount is that doesn't require paying any duties in your country.

True, I forgot they adjust the prices according to one's location.

They are marketing this as their "biggest" Black friday offer to date, my expectations are up.
Any thoughts?
Nobody can beat this year Black Friday offer for Keystone hardware wallet, that is up to 40% discount!
Trezor is also offering very good deals, but I said before that I am waiting to see new device they release with secure element and I am  not purchasing anything from Trezor until then.
However, if someone doesn't have much money and still want's to purchase decent hardware wallet, Trezor One is still usable and ok for current BF price.

It has been so long since the mentioned the new model and still they have not shown anything about it, I think. Makes me feel pesimistic on seeing the new model anytime soon, specially because Satoshilabs is the kind of company that likes to show their advances and products, I have found some pictures on internet posted by them of their advances on model one and model T prototypes.

It also worries me the features of the new model, besides the TropicSquare chips, what other added advantages this model would have over Model T and One, I wonder. There must be something which drive people to buy it, otherwise they may not sell as much as they expect.

Still expensive for me.
Passport hardware wallet is a bit more expensive but it's way better than Trezor Model T.
Even Coldcard and Keystone are better, and they are currently much cheaper.
Jade hardware wallet could also be considered, it's going to be airgapped soon with firmware update, and it's around $40 to $50.

But there is a small problem:
Did the servers not withstand the influx of new customers. It seems that against the backdrop of the latest events in the industry, HW device sellers will reap a very good "harvest".
Damn it. This must all be because of Ledger and their crappy partnership with FTX that is causing these problems with Trezor's website and servers. I am sure dkbit98 will fill us in. Pun intended. Wink
It wasn't working for me before either, but now it's up and running again.

Let's see if the Trezor T will go below $200 with a discount...

I just checked and I can confirm they are selling the Trezor model T for 181$, not bad to be honest.
The only problem (as mentioned before) is the fact that the webpage is having problems because of the people getting onto this offer. they even had to enable the DDoS protection.
I wonder if Trezor costumer service will able to handle this influx of costumers, in situations like this one they could get overwhelmed.

According to this article, the sale is live (up to 30%): https://blog.trezor.io/black-friday-sale-begins-752274134b2d

Apparently, you can get the Trezor One model for under 50$ but so far, I don't see anything. Maybe they released the blog article before applying the discounts.

This is indeed the case, and 30% discount is confirmed by the tweet:

"🎁 Trezor’s biggest Black Friday sale ever!

Up to 30% off hardware wallets and accessories.
Offers last till November 28."

Yeah the Black Friday deals haven't gone live yet. There is a paragraph under the first image in the blog post that says the prices on the Trezor shop will be updated in the next couple of hours.

It seems I was wrong and Satoshilabs is indeed planing to drop some Black Friday offers this year.
There are not details given whatsoever yet, neither on their Reddit nor on the webpage, there must be some update soon.

They are marketing this as their "biggest" Black friday offer to date, my expectations are up.

Any thoughts? I hope they are not hyping up people just to present a 10% off.

Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/TREZOR/comments/yv6ibb/one_more_week_until_trezors_biggest_black_friday/

Satoshilabs has already announced this event and it will be bad for their reputation if they cancel it. If they offer a 10% discount, this will also go unnoticed by their users. Recently there was a 15% discount, and against this background, 10% will definitely not look like the "biggest discount" and dissatisfied ones will appear. Which no firm wants to allow. Today is already November 21 and it would be time for them to announce what discounts trezor will offer, otherwise why were these loud statements needed. We should probably find out soon.
