Would "Fuck you" be less disappointing?

Forrest has spent hundreds of hours to make it possible for idiots like you to participate in a decentralized pool and still get regular payouts.  And you say that he is exploiting people by having a default donation of half of one percent that can be changed by anyone that bothers to read the documentation provided?

Let me say it again.  Fuck you.  By creating and developing this incredible software, he is helping not just you, and not just all p2pool users, but the entire bitcoin community.  You should do the decent thing and apologize for you ridiculous accusation.

..tempted to push the 'ignore button' on you, which would be the first time here..

Some people have started using the default donation as a way to bad mouth P2Pool.

Obviously it's easy enough to disable if you bothered to read the wiki. Still, I think it would be better to make the donation opt in instead of opt out.

Don't get me wrong, I think forrestv deserves the donation (and more) for all his work on P2Pool, but maybe it would be best to default the donation to 0 in a future release?
Seriously?  People have a problem with half of a percent that can be changed to anything else, including zero, with absolutely no effort?

Screw 'em.  Leave the default where it is.
The fact that you guys take criticism as bad mouthing is not a good sign. You should see feedback as an opportunity to improve and not just say "screw 'em". This response is very disappointing.

I find the author donation merited and would leave it to default but if I do no one is going to use my pool so it is conterproductive in my case.

Is this donation to the developer thing the same as -f or in any correlation to it?
If not, is there any way publicly to denote that a pool is donating..if so how much, etc.

What if p2pool prompted the user the first time it ran:

Do you want to support ongoing development of the p2pool software by donating 0.5% of your earnings to the developer?  [y/n]

It could store the answer in the data directory just like it does the vip password, etc.  And of course if someone actually included a donation parameter on the command line, it would not prompt.  It seems like this would address the fact that the default donation is "hidden".

ACK

I disabled the donation too, but not because I think it's bad to donate to the author, but I dislike a "standing order" Smiley.
Perhaps you could add a dialog, which asks if a user want's to send a one time donation or sth. like that?

I have set donation to 0% on my p2pool. When I put fee, I will donate 0.05% out of 0.25% . I know it's not much but even at 0% fee I get almost 0% trafic lol

Thiago,

I'm getting the same error, but only on my litecoin p2pool.  My bitcoin p2pool on the same machine doesn't have that error.  Everything seems to be working just fine though.

My p2pool version is 72d960a
