100th at .003 is .05 btc or 23 usd that gives you 4 hours of you at 100th rest of pool at 150th

you should do about that much since rental price is a little high.

so you are risking 0.05 btc to get 1 coin extra.

the two coins only need a little hash. all of us have an equal chance of our zones of 1 %

so the 0.05 is a chance for the extra 1 btc.

I would consider putting in 0.05 for 100th for 4 hours at .003 price in your case,

especially since my big rental has dropped off.

EDIT: yup, Phil, your edited post is correct. Your rental goes obviously towards your own mining earnings, but not towards any bonus for you until the round hits your range. That's when it makes sense to hit with the big rental - for the chance at that 3 coins.

LASERminer is correct here. If the block is found in your zone, you get 2BTC. If in addition to being in your zone, it is also you who finds the block, you get an additional 1BTC. There is no separate block finder's bonus. At least not for this iteration of the contest.

Basically... somebody is absolutely guaranteed to win 2BTC regardless of who finds the block (as long as that somebody is actively mining). If it just so happens that the miner who finds the block does so during that miner's guessed range, they win an extra 1BTC - for a total of 3.

So, this gives you some chance to play strategy. For example, let's say your guess is 93 - 93.99 and the pool is currently at 80. It probably doesn't make sense for you to throw a big rental down. However, if the pool is at 90, well, you might throw the rental down then. Sure, it's outside your range, but what are the chances you're going to hit that block immediately after starting your rental? Tongue

yeah which is decent.

maybe as a tweak instead of 1 for finder 2 for % guess

next time 2 for finder 1 for % guess.

I find on an emotional level that if I rent .25 btc at 500 th out of zone knowing I get at best 1 coin and the in zone guy gets 2 coins as hard to pull the trigger on a big rental.

And with a small zone and a long wait for it to come I get impatience.

Also if nice/west hash has a good price out of % zone it gets annoying.
