In my opinion, after everyone gets their forked free coins, they will dump most of their bitcoins that they are buying right now. The price is currently pumped, because of the rumor of "free money" if you buy bitcoin now and wait for the fork. However, once they get it, people will want to sell their excess bitcoins, so you still have hope to buy them even cheaper than for what you had sold them. But the question is, do you really want to buy back all of them? I think it's worth to diversify, especially with a big money like yours.
It seems to me that this is a very weak opportunity to improve our financial condition and buy Bitcoin cheaply. It seems to me that it is possible to warm up on these actions, and therefore I would not advise to do just that. The end-ends of the fork really will bring doubled coins from then names and they can be sold, not Bitcoin.

Where is my ring of blades...
you are just lucky to have 17 btc why you would sell it I have no idea

as i said before i tought i would sell them for 4968$ and rebuy at 100$ less

you have to make a plan before even buying bitcoin. not just buy for the sake of it and wish to make profit.

the plan is either to become an investor who buys and hoards and holds for years until mass adoption and you keep adding to that amount every time you can. and you should ignore all the price fluctuations until that day.

or the plan should be to become a trader. in that case you will make mistakes like this, selling at x and price rising. mistakes are inevitable and we all make them but what you do after making that mistake is important and makes the difference. you could have prevented missing out by buying after you saw the strong rise from $5000 towards the ATH.

You should wait. Buying it in high times is not a good idea. I would say that selling it is very early because next year is going to be the most awaited year. We are on the road to $10k so I feel bad that you can't hold it enough on that day.

May as well just sit on the sidelines for a while I wouldn't have sold until the Bitcoin Gold Split personally but since its already done, you could reposition yourself into altcoins which took a big hit or keep the earnings and do a wait and see it is good money after all.
Yeah although I would suggest now buying soon after fork, price may drop to low $5000s when people would be busy selling. Below $5000 looks tough right now.

i panicked and i bought backed at 5620$
In the last night the price of bitcoin already touched above $5620 and that means you are able to get our from there and waiting for another correction in the future, Are you tried it? or are you just try to keep your coin at the moment? This means you are in the lost because the total amount of your bitcoin will be less thatn 17 bitcoin.

I think that another bullish will be coming in the next week before the fork and big correction after the fork will possible.

Short term buy/sell is risky and this example is good lesson for you next time. You can switch to high time frame charts to make better returns on investments than short term trading.

Dump it!!!
You can't always be on the winning side, you have to win some and also lose some but its also not too late to get back on the bitcoin boat as you can some bitcoins are current rate and hodl them for a good time before you reap your profits out.

For sure if you wait the price increase you will earn a lot of profit. But its goods because you safe your money.  Lets god back to the questions. Many people as of now wait the price decrease after that they buy bitcoin but it depends to you if you buy today or wait . But if you have a lot of money you can invest some because the price of bitcoin continue to increase but invest only you can afford to lose because we dont know what will happen in the price in the following week.
OP was just being prudent because cryptocurrencies have not got to a stable level to feel secure about your investment but maybe should have sold half and left the other half to grow in value....

Your sell wasn't necessarily a bad thing if you bought low enough to make a lot of money. If I were you, I would wait for a correction. Most likely the price of Bitcoin will drop below $5000 at some point. Maybe shoot for buying again around $4000. The problem is that we don't know how low the price will drop and when it will drop because so much of it is based on news and emotions. But we also know that the price of Bitcoin is very volatile and we will continue to see fluctuations.

These decisions of selling portion of your bitcoin stash are always hard. From what I see Op never mentioned how many Bitcoins he had.
If he only sold part of it and collected some profits then it is nothing wrong with it.
After all following the logic of constant growth and never-ending price growth expectations we may wait forever and never sell even 1 BTC.
Because frankly speaking we will always expect that price will be higher, next week, next month or after next halving etc.

Its really regretful to make that kind of decision. You already lost like a chunk of profit by selling 17 BTC with that kind of price. However, If I'm in the position, I would not buy it today with the profit you make because the price is so high. Would rather wait till their is a price correction. You didn't mentioned how long did you hold or how much did you buy that 17 BTC? Did you accumulate in overtime?

You have to wait for some time now, a reason behind the current price hike could be the 25 Oct fork, don't know much about it. Wait for 10-12 days then buy on whatever price you get it and you can sell the Bitcoin Gold and Bitcoins both after that fork.
Well, I'm also regretting my decision to sell it now, I was looking to hold it till 25 Oct but due to some reason I had to sell them. No worries as we are still in profit, Don't we?

I think he is still on the positive side with the sell. I consider this a mental barrier for most traders, the $5000 price. Although for us looking at the outside its regretful, however, as traders you will only sell if you have profit enough, so I think he made a huge returns with that kind of sell. Wink

i got them for 4700$ so not much profit made

You can't do anything now but to wait instead of buying at higher price. Don't worry about it as there will be the time that the price of bitcoin will go down eventually after the quick pump. What's even the reason why you have sold that 17 bitcoin? You've got $84,000 and that's barely a lot of money, if I were you I won't be gambling at the current price of bitcoin. I know there will be some proper correction maybe if it will be back at $5,000 go buy some.

Barely a lot of money? speak for yourself moneybags thats a lot of money for 90% of the world.
That said do as I say not as I do - buy them back and forget about btc or trading until 2020. You shouldn't give 2 fucks about a $600 difference per coin by that time.

What's with the rage? Do as you say or do whatever you want and do whatever you think which is right. If you think that he shouldn't give that thing about the $600 difference then it's up to him. I was curious why he really have to sold all of those 17 bitcoin if he's in need of cash he can just sell 10% of it and use the cash and just do just like what you say and hold it until 2020.

I think he should read a lot about trading to gain confidence.  Grin
Because if he will not then he will constantly posting here asking for advice. Which will make him confused, for there are so many different advice of course he can choose the best but it's hard to identify. Smiley

I know his feeling about buying at that rate and seeing the price right now which is accelerated and we don't have any idea if it is about to get back. But we may not know if that price will be able to get back but I have a feeling that we are now in a good stable, floor price of $5,000. He's confused actually and he really don't know what to do because of selling at that price but for me, profit is profit.

Yeah you should not regret if you have made good profits by selling your bitcoins as the price of bitcoin is something no one can have a control and if you have bought at low price then there is nothing to get disappointed as you will get many opportunities in future to make regular profits and now I think he should wait for the price to drop so that he can buy some more coins at lower price.
I agree with you but i understand why he is in regret because why sell it at 5k if after a day or 2 you can sell  it for 5.7k he did not make a loss and profit does count as profit but you learned to not give up fast.
I know that feeling because it happened to me when the price of bitcoin was at $2k rate but look on what happened the price went up to $4,000 very quick. Just think that you made some profits and don't think about it again because it will just give you an upsetting feeling if you will never move on with this type of trade. This is the risky thing in trading but still think about it as a profit.
