It will be very difficult for any crypto to usurp bitcoin immediately. Initially many altcoins didn't fall anytime bitcoin fell in price. But as of now when bitcoin goes down most of the other altcoins go down in prices too. Bitcon is the independent variable here. Most of us will go for btc any day ,currently.
For me I think it would still be Bitcoins year, probably its because it is still young and would have a lot of room for growth most especially the noise it made when it reached to $20k last December. I mean, who would not be interested in Bitcoin especially the investors.
Bitcoin will become more strong in 2018 due to its keen interest by some big govt and Ethereum will also move to its high value. lets see the good days in next few weeks.

2018 will remain as a bitcoin year and Neo will be second after bitcoin if you don't believe it please do some analysis on coinmarketcap.com or other sites. Neo actually have strong power to move faster but they don't do it.

Last year, the ultimate success were achieve in the last month of the year and that is a good success as we have reach almost$20,000. This year started with a dump and it's a normal correction with FUD that is why people panic but what is important is that we were able to recover.

Well I guest by now so many of the challenges of bitcoin that you mentioned are all taken care of, take about the high transactions fees and slow transactions speed are all a thing of the past in bitcoin and in this year 2018 it will be bitcoin year of total taking over and that is going to be accompanied with rise in the price of bitcoin to as high as $50000 before the end of 2018 and bitcoin getting generally accepted by members of the society.
for me the year 2018 will be a bitcoin year. why is that? seen from bitcoin statistics from year to year increasing rapidly in price. so I think in 2018 this bitcoin will be more uphill again the price. for ethereum and the other in my opinion still can not match bitcoin in this year.
For me personally, I will stick with Bitcoin for now, I still believe that this year will be a good year for Bitcoin just as good or even better than the last year. Hoping for the best for everyone.

Staying 2019 will be the year for BTC as you write BTC is ranked first and will always be ,so please don't hesitate on the privilege of BTC and hodl better than selling now.

I'm sure by 2018 this is still the year for bitcoin, as there are still many people who believe and are interested in investing in this krypto.

I agree with OP 2017 was really year of bitcoin, everyone were talking about bitcoin, news and many of new miners, but 2018 seems to be altcoins year such as ETH, IOAT, XMR. In 2018 I think will be more stable, than 2017 and think there won't be 300% - 500% raise.
Bitcoin with it's high fees and slow transaction times is hardly suitable for payments – spending the same fee whether you buy a coffee or send $100,000 is a joke and the promise of scaling solutions such as the Lightning Network hasn’t been fulfilled.[1]

For me bitcoin will still be the main choice, it is true ethereum bitcoincash and litecoin also include strong coins, but I think their strength is still far away with bitcoin.

Don't know about its future but i can just hope and expect that this year makes bitcoin more stable. Growing of bitcoin is good but i want to see Ethereum to become more expensive. There's some more coins and we should support them too.I don't think every year is for bitcoins. Who's know this year makes other coin more expensive.
All we want is bitcoin to be stable and not like this unpredictable situation where there are huge price drop, I hope year 2018 will be the year that bitcoin will have a good foundation and better improvements. I also want some alt coins to shine because they deserve it especially ethereum where way more developed than bitcoin. It is best if more people support and explore alt coins as same as the support they've given to bitcoin, in that way we will have more options to earn and not just focusing on one coin.
