I think top 5 high potential altcoins are Ethereum, Ripple, Verge, Eos and Litecoin. These coins have been showing very good prospect, they would definitely shine this year.
It is difficult to predict, but I think 2018 year is going to be the year of Ethereum, its price will grow as soon as Casper Protocol will be launched. Also I have great hopes for NANO, Zilliqa, Nebulas and Odyssey.
I think top 5 high potential altcoins are Ethereum, Ripple, Verge, Eos and Litecoin. These coins have been showing very good prospect, they would definitely shine this year.

Couldn't you guys please write why you think your 5 picks will rule 2018, just a list doesn't really say that much. If you motivate why then you probably get more guys interested in your coins which equals more trading in the coin.

You can check in coinmarketcap, I think it's a good clue to see the top coins of the moment. There also have recordings of each year, so you can compare the progress each year.

This year a lot of tokens and coins appear that are not even able to reach the exchangers, so I doubting to bet on something new and the most promising for me is the Ethereum, Ripple and NEO
Storm, because it has real use case (micro-payments Storm App to obtain rewards in crypto for achievements),
Tron, if it keeps scalability promises (15.000tx/s) + many partnerships already established (great team too),
0x, because it's decentralized exchange protocol is already in use and it works remarkably well,
BCH, because it's Bitcoin without the artificial 1mb block limit,
XRP, because it's reliabale (some could argue 'trustable'), fast, almost feeless, has no scalability problems, has real customers.

Of course altcoin have a good future. If you buy good coin i mean mostly popular coin. Who people use in online marketplace. If you choose few altcoin. You must be profitable in future. So it is the right time to buy altcoins and get more profit.

According to my opinion, the top 5 altcoins that will shine this 2018 year are ethereum, ripple, litecoin, bitcoincash and waves. All of these never lost a potential, it just the market that makes it price decreased but when the market is good, these altcoins increased their prices so much from its current prices.
It is some problems to do the real forecasting. But most likely coins will enter the five of the best altcoins, which were in TOP5 in the last year . As perspective tokens by results of ISO in 2018 it is possible to allocate Cube, QuickX, Shivon; DIW.
Who would not say anything here, anyway, everyone will praise their portfolio, because hope and dreams will always pursue this person for the most part this is so. Of course there are people who approach this matter more consciously, but I think that the OAX project should soon be pumped up
I really like Tron. It's got an excellent dev team (on paper anyway) and the roadmap for the years ahead is exciting. And it probably has the coolest name for an alt. Ever. 
I was with SIA until figured out their team is fighting for minimum things and they plan to break competition... Cardano has the power to become the next big one and DeepOnion has the best community.
