what is clear is that deep inside of the people the tie to religion is really deep and during the times of hardship and challenges this spirit will always show.

Doubtful. As others have pointed out it's for publicity and immortality, not that anyone's going to remember a few years down the line. France is one of the world's least religious countries. I've never been in a French church that had anything religious happening in it. It's just bored tourists. And maybe 0.5% of Notre Dame visits will be non touristic.

What's with all this dick swinging when it comes to this? If it were me I'd let it fall apart but I have a sizeable lack of sentimentality problem. I don't get why a string of billionaires are laying out for this when they could be solving some real problems.

This is the power of religion or specifically the Catholic Church to get people to donate money for the cause of rebuilding of the famous and iconic church building based in Paris. While in the recent years, growth on religion especially on the side of Christianity has had been discouraging, what is clear is that deep inside of the people the tie to religion is really deep and during the times of hardship and challenges this spirit will always show.

In case of Binance for sure. It's the ideal way for them to get some mainstream media exposure while this is being covered throughout the whole world.

Exactly business is a bussiness notre dame is one of the most popular catheral in the world, binance grab the opportunity to contribute for re build of the notre dame to get involve In the press release media courtesy.
And also this action of binance can help for the bitcoin popularization in the world not only the exchange but the whole crypto get benefits.

People still don't know that when a company or business show kindheartedness even if it's genuine or for personal gains, it will spread and will get massive positive results. Just be thankful that it is Binance that does that because if that is done by another exchange then will get more damage for sure.

"You can make contributions either by name or anonymously. As of this writing, the campaign has received 29 donations in 12 hours. Contributions top 1.47 BTC, or roughly $7,646."

Not bad for 12 hours after Binance do call out for that donation but when i do further read up until to the bottom then the excitement turns off when
i do see that big companies already starting up to donate millions of dollars for that restoration which its just too obvious that they arent really going for the charitable work but for the sake of exposure and popularity.

Very interesting. Now they don't want any KYC documentation and we can donate anonymously. So my understanding is that if the Bitcoin users are ready to fund the government, then KYC is not required and no one will be having a problem with the anonymity. But in case I want to spend $10 worth of coins to purchase a burger, then all of a sudden I need to submit the KYC documents to the authorities?

Notre Dame is an iconic structure and if someone donates his money for its re-construction, it will get a lot of attention. It is similar to what the Russian oligarchs used to do. In order to create a feeling that they are patriotic, they used to purchase historic paintings and art works and bring them back to Russia. A perfect example here:

Obviously these guys don't care about the millions living in poverty and destitution.

People can easily see through this though, as this thread and the many other threads and articles on twitter/reddit/news sites/etc. all show. These companies are being scorned more than they are being admired, and I really think this could all massively backfire, especially when the project ends up millions over budget and there are huge delays, which there inevitably will be.

Do you not think the headline "Binance builds new orphanage" or "Binance provides clean water for 10 villages" would be better for them than "Binance joins other billionaires in publicity stunt"?

Attention for their own companies and brands. Similar to some of my scorn on the bitcoin news media, this also applies to all this dick swinging. None of them are authentic. They have their own agendas.

Would you rather they did not give any money?

Put me down for a yes too.

And billionaires aren't all about one time gestures. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation does plenty of unsexy stuff without measurable results.

If I wanted to be immortal and helpful I'd buy a billion dollars' worth of rainforest and trim it a little bit to look like me from space.

about 900 million children are hungry in the world at this moment..

They don't want to help the children. The NWO wants less people on the planet so you won't see them feeding the poor. They will rather give them outdated vaccines and other medical supplies to thin the herd.

When the cathedral gets rebuilt there will be a memorial somewhere inside with all the donors and maybe even their company logos. They want to be immortalized.

World’s Largest Bitcoin Exchange Wants to Help Rebuild Notre Dame

Binance, the world’s largest bitcoin exchange, is stepping up efforts in the crypto community to help rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. The iconic 900-year-old Catholic church literally went up in flames after being destroyed by a massive fire. Authorities are still investigating the suspicious cause of the raging blaze.

Would you rather they did not give any money?
Yes.

Globally, the Catholic Church is one of the wealthiest organizations in the world. The Vatican alone has a net worth of over $30 billion. The Catholic Church in France has an income of approximately $1 billion a year. The Church is not exactly short of cash. They can quite easily fund the restoration themselves. Notre-Dame was a historical landmark, and I'm sorry to see it burn, but lets not pretend the Church need any help whatsoever in rebuilding it.

In a perfect world we should be feeding children in Africa and rebuilding countries devastated by natural disasters, but I'd rather see those rich corporations rebuild a monument that stood there for centuries than buy another thousand billboards across the country to display their stupid logo and remind every dumb lady that if her purse says LV she automatically becomes high class.

where the hell they are when hundreds or thousands of kids don't get enough education, lack of nutrition and so on?. i honestly feel disgusted by this selective help from many giants in the business. if they want to do some really good thing, should've started doing that without looking for publicity like this.

sometimes it feels really unfair.

Why? Much worse tragedies happen all the time. Puerto Rico is still decimated from Hurricane Maria. Where are the millions of dollars to help rebuild it? Children in Flint are continuing to be poisoned by their water. The cost to fix that is estimated at $55 million, yet no donations from billionaires. This is marketing on behalf of Binance, pure and simple. If they were headquartered in Paris, then I could understand it. As it stands, they are simply using this tragedy for their own gains. It's disgusting.

I agree with your thinking completely, hypocrites of the world actually show their true face. It can never be normal that one building no matter how famous or important was deserves such kind of attention. The world in which a cathedral is more important than the life of a one man is sick world, and fact that in 2017 number of children under-five who died from preventable or treatable causes was 5.4 million speaks for itself.

Binance just wants to join this train, but there are many better ways to show yourself to the world in a good light. Renovation of the cathedral should be financed by Vatican, French Catholics Church, and the French state. After all, they are the ones who earn money on it.

I do feel indignant about it, tbh, but yeah why are we all surprised right? And if we're objective, $1 billion might "solve" a big crisis like reconstruction in Haiti or in Puerto Rico, or whatever, it's a "temporary" band aid. It's not so much a fatalistic view of the world, I worked a long career in development and aid, and I have always known that we are only healing superficial wounds. Long-term solutions need a lot of desire and ownership from within, and committed long-term support externally.

Fixing Notre Dame, for example, is an easy win. Achievable, 100% measurable, and permanent.

So yeah, all this done for a purely business sense. Nothing altruist at all.

Publicity > Real World Problems

When the Christian world got saddened by the news all they see is the church but not the oppressed people who really needs help now this company is stepping up and taking the opportunity to make itself known. Instead of helping other people who are in need they chose a church who has enough attention from other entities already this just show how Binance is hungry for attention. I just hope that this just gets backfired at them for showing fake gratitude towards a problem that is already been solved by others.

Every company in the world wants to be credited in helping to restore one of the most iconic buildings in the world. This is a huge publicity stunt for most of them and they could care less that it is one of the oldest buildings in the world.  Roll Eyes

There was a huge cyclone over Africa a week ago and many people lost their lives and 1000's lost everything and you not seeing these companies coming out in full force to help these people.  Roll Eyes

What does that say about us as human beings.  Roll Eyes

I don't get why a string of billionaires are laying out for this when they could be solving some real problems.
Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy owners donate €200 million.
L'Oreal owners donate €200 million.
Gucci/Yves Saint Laurent owners donate €100 million.
Total S.A. donate €100 million.
Another €10 million here and €10 million there from a bunch of other wealthy families.
Current total sitting just shy of €1 billion.
The Vatican alone has a net worth of $30 billion, never mind the Catholic Church in any other country.

Why? Much worse tragedies happen all the time. Puerto Rico is still decimated from Hurricane Maria. Where are the millions of dollars to help rebuild it?
