Any comments? Is the NBA league really getting soft?

Nah, NBA league is getting tough! You can only say the league has become soft because it became less physical than the 80's and 90's era. The players now has evolve into a more agile individuals that could score with a minimal body contact. Everyone in the league today could shoot a three or hit from the perimeter, big men doesnt need to be always on the low post, they could even dribble drive their way to the basket. Only those butthurt haters  would say the 90's era is better than today.

I agree. The era of 80's and 90's are all on the type of plays that is mostly connected to physical contacts. With the flashy dribble handles by GOD Shammgod, I guess that started the next great dribblers of NBA history.

With a lot of moves and dribbling skills being passed down, that kind of play is being there for a long time now. And with a lot of new skills being shown, next generations will tend to improve and be developed in these games. Expect that in the next generations, having a 100 points in a game will be common as having a 70 points in our current generation. For me, great shooters and dribblers will be getting in the court of NBA soon.
Like curry of course but if the NBA will change their rules and they will allow more physical game then I don't think the outside shooting
will be popular as with pressure defense they won't have an easy look.
NBA changed their rules? For what? More or less with physical game it doesnt matter and i dont know where you do get that outside shooting wont really be popular. If you do try to look on the angles some of the teams do have that capability on shooting way to the basket.
Reading above about comparison about 80s,90s play upto recent years. They do really differ but why would be surprised since there would really be always changes from generation to generation. The thing we do talk about is that we arent get used to it.

The game is getting a bigger talent pool that is correct but just because players can play without hardcore play it doesn't mean game is not softer right now, it is getting much much softer than what it was on defense, yes on offense people are evolving to more three pointers or even bigs can pass and so forth but they have literally moved hand checking to foul levels and we can't just come up and say the game is not softer because of it.

Hand checking was one of the biggest weapons of defense for many teams and without it the defense is just lacking greatly and people like harden is abusing these powers given to offensive players.

I have that thought too at first but we must also consider this average height of guys.
Before it is hard to be one. You need to be a high jumper so that you could score inside for they wont let you make a perimeter shot because of that hand check.

They have given them an opportunity to create score but it became way too far that it had to be abused.
Harden is the one I always imagine with it. Dribbling the ball for centuries and no one can even go near him. Why? No handcheck. They could be called for a foul in an instant or maybe something else.

Double teams. We dont see much of it anymore.
Full court press. No.
It will always be a man to man waiting at the other side of the court.

Defense plays are out. It is all about the offense now.
Defense now depends on the player of how good he could be one on one.

Okay so I read your answers and mostly says it is a "No". The NBA is still on good track.

Maybe people are really just comparing too much. The game is really different now than before since trainings are also different and now they are also using Math and Science  to upgrade the game of one player. I guess you know what I mean. Just like what they have done with Dirk using Geometry.

But therr should always be a balance. If this will continue and tall men cannot catch up then it will be the game of average heights.

Maybe that is one more reason to why Durant doesnt want his body to be buffed. Grin

Lebron James and Ben Simmons Highlight Video of their teamed up recently.

Can't imagined the blend of this veteran and young gun if they able to teamed up at Sixers.

I wish Lebron just go into Sixers instead of Lakers because he and Simmons are a good duo and they can dominate. Simmons is young in NBA but he can cope up with some of the veterans and he is an all around player. On the other hand, Lebron is also an all around same with Simmons.

Simmons need more experience but now he needs to practice perimeter and 3 pt. shots I think. If he can do it, he can be an all star in the next 2-3 years.
If only Lebron have gone to the Sixers, they would have been the powerhouse of the East now but that is not what is in the mind of Lebron right now. He is more focus on the future of his career because he is getting old and signing with the Lakers is a business decision for him.

Yeah, I agree man. West Final Conference these season will be a heat up fight better and might be better than the NBA finals. Every one wants to see the revenge of the King and take another NBA finals win for his team. I don't know what might happen to the new West Rivalry but all I know is that Lebron will be having a new team with a possibility of winning the West.

Nah, probably not this year. But letting Luol Deng go and making a free cash for next max contract is clearly a step towards building a championship team next year. The question is WHO? There are rumors about Jimmy Butler joining Lakers next year.

Definitely!
If I had to say one player from last 3 drafts to build a team on, I'd mention Ben.

BTW. Today is the release date of NBA 2k19 LeBron edition. Are there any players here?

Rules allowing more physical game? What do you mean here? Like refs should just call a foul if they saw a drip of blood or something? Just a joke lol. Or something that even lots of physical contacts , no calls should be made? Honestly I don't have an idea about that said "ruling" or does it even existed?

Just saw it in other place! I love the moves of Ben and hope that he'll learn to shoot from mid-range and long-range in the future.

No, they aren't soft. These new sets of MVP from big men are just good in playing. We can be the judge on how they are very well in playing and can be a candidate to get the MVP title for each season. I've noticed that change as well but the games changing as well and many players are discovering new strategies on how they can score inside the court.

Here is a good trivia for everyone ever since the hand check rule was removed in 2004.

It was just Dirk Nowitzki whose position is forward/center who have won the season MVP when the rule was implemented.
After him are all guards and small forward which is only Lebron.

Steve Nash
Harden
Westbrook
Curry
Kobe

Why?
Hand check have been a great help before to keep up in front of shooters.
Before it was implemented MVP's are big men and only Jordan took a snatch out of it.

David Robinson
Shaq
Tim Duncan
Karl Malone

It is also said that there have been issues with NBA regarding profits since people are getting exhausted seeing just big men taking the throne.
They also want to see new shooters.

Any comments? Is the NBA league really getting soft?

Of course NBA has evolved a lot but I'm not saying its getting soft. Perhaps coaches find ways to offset what the big Centers or Power Forwards we have seen in the past. Like D'Antoni's 7 second rule for instant, its a fast pace game and I don't think that Centers are the 'center' of that kind of plays anymore. Although as NBA fans, we really missed those days when Pistons used to dominate and intimated teams with the way they played.

In my view, no.

People are just seeing things like this because they are not used to it so there's really a comparison. Back then big guys doesn't really have a good shooting percentage so obviously they will try to dominate inside. Players today are more of sharp shooters even those centers so instead of pushing inside, they will used their advantage.

Again like I said in my past post back then, we just have to wait for those players that will back the inside action that most people want during past eras.

In some aspects - maybe. But I wouldn't be so critical. The game changes towards speed attack, small-ball & 3 pointers and it's fine for me. There are some other aspects of physicality, for example Russell Westbrook and his rides towards the rim.

Let's also check the new generation of centers - DeMarcus Cousins, Joel Embidd , Deandre Ayton. Even 7 years ago we didn't have in the league so strong and agile PF/C and this also change the game a lot. The other thing is that they are much more like Hakeem than Shaq + they started shooting threes as well.

I'm really curious in which direction will league evolve in upcoming years.

Well, that is what I heard from friends. Evolution of the league. Since they want Centers and Forwards to be faster now.
But have you seen the line up of GSW and Houston when they are playing the WCF?
It is a small one. GSW didnt use McGee much and Houston is also benching Clint Capela just to tie up with the GSW team with speed.

Before it was all about Rebounds and Blocks and mostly defensive thing that will win the game.
But now it became too much with offense. I just want to see another Piston team once again. If you know what I mean.

Well it's not just the game that evolved, the players adapted and have become more well rounded. You were right about the new generation of big men who could easily run the floor or shoot like a guard. Men who physically are able to play all 5 spots. Let's see in a couple of more years how this evolution would play out and it's quite interestinf as well. Another 04 pistons would be quite hard to come by at this age
