Hi abonami, thanks for mining with us. Currently there is no reason to believe it is anything more than just a bad luck.
Therefore the best thing to do is to stay mining.

When changing the difficulty for one of my miners on Slushpool, how long will it take to come into effect? I have an S9 and am trying to decrease the bandwidth consumption. I understand if I increase the difficulty I should use less bandwidth because I will be submitting my shares and requesting work less frequently (am I right about this?).

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on how I can reduce my total bandwidth / traffic use if I have multiple (20+) S9's running on the same network? I will be using a cellular data plan, so it is important to minimize my data usage.

Thanks Smiley

Hi VentMine, you can set the minimum difficulty to 28 000 which should decrease the bandwidth consumption by half. Let us know if it helps.

Any idea what's going at slushpool only 3 blocks found at 07-Feb-2015 with 171.7 PHS and no block for 12hours!

Is it bad bad luck or because the difficulty is higher or something is not right with the pool!

Thanks

As wmabern suggested, a proxy will dramatically decrease your bandwidth. You can use ckpool (linux only) in ckproxy mode to put as many miners as you like to connect to one worker on your pool. The ckpool link is in my signature.

I can't tell you about the difficulty settings as I have tried to change mine and have never gotten them set satisfactorily. So I just put them back at the minimum. Whatever vardif Slush talks about, I don't see it working or at least I'm not doing something right and there is almost no real information to make good judgement implementations - at least that's my take. Wink

As for reducing bandwidth for multiple miners, you may want to look into a proxy. I know Kano has one available for his pool and I would guess that Slush probably has one too. But I don't know how to implement it and really have no need as I'm only running 7 miners.
But I think a proxy is what you should look into.
Let us know what you find out. It could benefit others, myself included.

Good luck! Smiley

Good luck on the potential new job, furry guy!

But if you don't mind me asking, what does the new job have to do with what pool you mine on?

Maybe you're just looking for less variance here on Slush over Kano?

I moved from Kano's pool because I value voting for SegWit over a slight long term profitability advantage. But that's just me...

Thank you for the good wishes.

Well, the new job would allow me to add at least 2 more modern miners to my four S9's and three S7's (that I run when it's cold enough so I don't turn the heat in the house on.) I feel I would have a bigger impact on Kano pool with that. But I understand that's faulty logic and what hash I have now would be a help there regardless. (Don't really know why I was thinking that way to begin with.)  Huh

The second part, yes, I moved to Slush for less variance because I cash out at the end of each month to help with the power bill and other bills.
I've been an IT guy for 20+ years and I'm currently under-employed and under-paid working for a non-profit. So the new job would give me the freedom of not having to worry about the bills or how many coins I can earn each month. I'm waiting on an answer from one job interview and have another interview next week.

I will "probably" stick here a little longer - new job or not - but I do want to go back to Kano in the near future. I'm not a SegWit fan myself.  Grin

Best wishes and happy mining! Smiley

Glad to see my bitching is finally starting to pay off. LOL  Grin Grin

Of course I'm just kidding.  Tongue

EDIT: The "Estimated Daily Reward" just took a big hit with the Difficulty jumping over 16%. Not the best news. Tongue

EDIT 2: By my own calculations, nothing to do with the pool estimate - my mining earnings mathematically dropped by over $5.00 a day. That kinda sucks.  Sad

get your furry self back to Kano.is

LOL.

Edit: I will hopefully soon, but I'm waiting to hear if I've got a new job or not. If so, then I will be moving back to Kano.is.  Grin

I certainly hope no one is testing out new pool software/miners on the live Slush Pool site. That is a BIG NO-NO.  Undecided

I had the same concern back in December (after what happened in December of 2015 with Omega) -- but was assured that Slush now has the ability to detect that sort of thing.

It's nice to see you over here on Slush! BTW, one of my B1 S9's is following the same path as yours -- I've been following your thread in the hardware support point by point -- probably will need to replace the controller soon -- lol...  Have you considered the T9's?

Hi. I must have missed your post when you first posted.
Yeah, if it happens once, you have to wonder if it could happen again. If they say they now have the ability to detect that, someone must have to keep a pretty good eye on the miners that are connecting/hashing on the pool using some type of software. Pool hash has gone up by about 10PH in the last week. It seems the pool was doing better with less hash. But that is probably just my short-sightedness and/or my imagination.

I imagine that is not an easy thing to detect faulty miners on the pool. I know Kano does that by looking at the stats after each block, I believe. Not sure if Slush is not just saying that to ease concerns. But I hope they are really keeping an eye out for such BS. The luck has been up and down in the last week or so. But I know that is not unusual. I'm always impatient for a block each hour. But I know that is not realistic.

I will probably be going back to Kano after this full month is over. I hate the idea of my miners running 24/7 but only get credit if they are online when a block is found. I turn my two S7's (heaters) off at night and run only the four S9's. I feel like I'm wasting hash (electricity) by not getting credit for the work my miners do when they are online and no blocks are found. I hope that makes sense.

If Slush would use PPLNS or have that as an option, I would probably stay here. But since they don't, I feel like I'm throwing away all the work my miners perform when blocks are few and far between - as has been the case in the last week or so. Yes, I understand it is probably normal variance, but I still feel like I'm wasting hash.

As for my flaky S9, I was running it at 550 (it is a 600mHz miner) and it would show mostly all good chips with only one or two X's. I finally said, "Screw it", and I flashed the S9 with the auto-tune FW. It solved the problem with the S9 and it's hashing at 600Mhz again. Although it did raise the PCB and chip temps by 15-20c. It is still under 100, so I'm just going with it.
If you're having similar issues with an S9, you might want to try the new FW. IT MAY help. If not, you can always go back.

Best of luck to you! Smiley

Let's see some FREAKING BLOCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS on this Sunday!!!!! The pool has over 160PH. To me that means a block per hour!!! LOL
Make it so!!  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

P.S. Am I wrong to think that 3 blocks over-night with 160PH on the pool is pretty pitiful? Just bad luck? It certainly seems like it. I know a block was recently found (about an hour ago). But before that, there were 3 blocks, then 18 hours ago, a fourth.
Just seems that with this much pool hash, the pool should be hitting more regularly.
I know pool luck doesn't care if you have 10PH or 100PH, but I'm not feeling very good about the pool luck at the moment. I know that can turn on a dime. Certainly wish it would, cause I'm burning electricity. Wink

OK, enough complaining. I may as well be complaining that I haven't hit the Powerball lottery yet. LOL  Cool
Now to find some blocks before I power down the S7's later tonight. Smiley

I think its obvious by the numbers of the last 10/50/250 blocks that the Slush pool is alive and well. I don't have 100% of my power here but I do mine a lot in this pool and have quite a bit for the last few years.

I for one wish that more people would mine here. Antpool has 500 freaking PH!! Slush deserves at least half of that.

Hey every bit counts!

Happy mining to you Sir.

I'm sure a lot of that is because ant ships their hardware with the pools already set and many people don't know enough about what they're doing to go in and change the settings to a pool that might be more beneficial for them. For all they know, antpool IS BTC.
Just speculating, of course....

Unless you live in China, there really shouldn't be any reason to mine on their pools.
At least that's my .02.

Nice to see another Slush block. Now I guess I will power down the two heaters (S7's) I fired up just for the day. I'll leave the night-shift to the S9's.
Mine on!  Smiley

Have you tried sacrificing some virgins to the pool luck gods? There is nothing the pool can do about the laws of statistical probability.

I don't think I know any virgins. At least not legal-aged virgins... LOL

Yes, I understand how pool luck/probability works. But I wish Slush offered a PPLNS option. I know my tiny 60TH's is just a drop in the bucket, but it's hashing away 24/7.
Ready for the chips (blocks) to start falling semi-regularly again. I know it's just a matter of time. Grin
